why seriously what the fuck
At this point I'm starting to think it's primarily because of delusional old men inexplicably holding positions of power desperately clinging on to a worldview that hasn't existed in decades and trying to use their positions of power to reshape the world into something resembling the one they grew up in because they're terrified that things have changed
What about the jobs of people tasked to haul that shit away? [editline]17th February 2017[/editline]
At this point I'm starting to think it's primarily because of delusional old men inexplicably holding positions of power desperately clinging on to a worldview that hasn't existed in decades and trying to use their positions of power to reshape the world into something resembling the one they grew up in because they're terrified that things have changed
I think they're just liars
Didn't he just ramble that he was going to protect the enviroment like..... yesterday?
Yeah when talking about regulations. He said he liked regulations regarding health and the environment, but that the US has too many regulations, more than other countries he has been too. I wonder if it ever entered his mind that the reason the United States is a first world country might have something to do with those environmental regulations :v:
cant make america great if we're all fucking dead can we you cunt
can this be defended in any stretch?
can this be defended in any stretch?
Someone was defending it in the previous thread but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to it or if that would be offtopic.
Someone was defending it in the previous thread but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to it or if that would be offtopic.
Well, if it relates to the subject at hand, it isn't offtopic. So I'd like to see how well thought out that argument is.
can this be defended in any stretch?
Rampantly polluting the planet will quicken its death and once the world ends this fucking nightmare will finally be over.
evidence shows that clean energy jobs have been multiplying yearly. But let's dump stuff into water to create a handful of jobs and ruin the environment!
Rampantly polluting the planet will quicken its death and once the world ends this fucking nightmare will finally be over.
It just means death for us humans, really. The planet will eventually recover. Good goddamn riddance.
Didn't he just ramble that he was going to protect the enviroment like..... yesterday?
Dead ecosystems are easier to protect.
I figured out how Trump is going to create more jobs - by destroying all environmental regulations, he will ensure lifetime career stability for doctors of all varieties. Special education will skyrocket as an industry proportionate to the exponential increases in birth defects per thousand live births. We'll have so many grave yards: more than any other country to house all of the dead that our nation will produce as a result of a decimated system of medical care as tens of thousands of babies are born into poverty, ensured to suffer their entire lives from lifelong diseases and crippling deformities that their president will gladly call 'pre-existing conditions', allowing them to be denied medical care at every possible avenue. Don't worry - he and his ilk will be sure to abolish Planned Parenthood and ban contraception, to ensure we have optimal corpse production. We'll have so many dead it'll become America's primary export. Doctors from around the world will be eager to dissect our nation's children to see what they should be looking out for and preventing at home as our country becomes an industrial chemical test bed, from sea to toxic sea.
My little brother works for the railroad, and thinks this is just the best shit. We're not even anywhere near coal country.
It's okay, the coal will act as fertilizer. :downs:
Dead ecosystems are easier to protect.
If we glassed the entire planet with nukes we wouldn't need to worry about jobs tbh
Rampantly polluting the planet will quicken its death and once the world ends this fucking nightmare will finally be over.
At least the world will be out of its misery. Especially humanity. I hope I die quickly.
My family was so excited about hearing how Trump undid a bunch of mining regulations that were "killing jobs" here in PA. Meanwhile we've had issues as of late with our water being murky and they can't stand it. Fucking idiots.
this is a really retarded comic imo and hopefully iyo humans are fucking up the ecosystem globally. sure, life will find a way but we are not just fucking ourselves this planet is going to shit
Honestly, no it isn't retarded. Earth has faced multiple catastrophic extinction events. A few billion years ago a bacterium produced so much sulphur gas it wiped out the majority of life on this planet. Here we are, almost a few billion years later, alive and wellish. There isn't a "Destroying the earth" until the sun swells up and eats it.
Say hello to the police.
Okay. Let them have at it. As many people as there are out there in this country who are furious about this sort of shit and as many as could potentially get involved with such activity, they won't be able to get everybody who participates. The ones they do get, by all means take them to court. Give them a platform to speak from and to raise attention from. That's exactly what you'll be doing, if not in court then to the press who will be covering their activity (and they will be covering it; this kind of radical but necessary action draws a crowd these days in case you haven't noticed). Sitting around doing nothing is not acceptable. Talking about how, "Well we need education and to just inform people so this doesn't happen," isn't what's going to win the war here. The people who already support this, you're not going to change their minds. They're set in their ways. You're doing nothing excepting wasting time and energy on them. Conversely, the people who already oppose it have plenty of good reasons why they do and are fixed on their opinion. You've got to appeal to those people who are already on your side, to radicalize them and entrench them further in understanding why the cause they belong to is so important. As far as energizing them is concerned, you've got to get them in the mindset of, "It's time to take serious action. We are committed." You've also got to make some attempt to appeal to that group of on-the-fence idiots who can never make a decisive call or take a firm stance one way or the other on anything and are always "undecided" about everything. Sabotaging their equipment and doing whatever you can to physically undermine them is a perfectly acceptable tactic. Embezzling, no. Rather than do that, point out the ugly little secrets of these companies if you work for them. If they're polluting rivers and streams and have no regard whatsoever for the environment, you can bet they're guilty of some heinous shit. Talk to the press about it. Get people aware about what they're doing, and get them more and more angry about it. When they understand how this affects them personally (and it does), they'll care. And in the process, you'll pick up supporters who will go out and who will join you in acts of sabotage, whistleblowing, recruitment efforts, etc. It's a snowballing effect. Eventually, go after the people who are in charge of these companies; protest them, scare/intimidate them, do whatever you have to do to make them realize that their irresponsibility and destruction of our environment isn't going to be tolerated. That, or we can (again) do nothing and just let our streams and rivers wind up looking like this: [t]https://d.ibtimes.co.uk/en/full/1391737/china-water-pollution.jpg[/t][t]http://www.humanosphere.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Capture.png[/t] [t]http://energydesk.greenpeace.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/16_90A2959.jpg[/t][t]http://occupydemocrats.com/wp-content/uploads/Iron_hydroxide_precipitate_in_stream.jpg[/t] Your call. I'd rather we not let this happen, and I think you'll find no shortage of other Americans besides a few people on Facepunch who agree with this sentiment. [editline]18 February 2017[/editline] I mean, people can argue about the legality of it as much as they want. The fact is arguing isn't going to get these people to stop and care about, you know, not fucking up the planet (and human lives in the process). This is something that we need to make more and more of a mainstream conversation-- whether we're talking about the anger and the hatred we feel towards the people and the companies who do shit like this, or whether we're talking about the things that need to be done against them. When it becomes mainstream, it becomes legitimized. There's nothing that can be done about it at that point. People won't feel ashamed to talk about it anymore, and they stop feeling scared or intimidated that they'll be penalized for it. This is when you'll see more of them start taking action, because they won't be afraid of the consequences, and they won't allow themselves to be bullied or put down. Not quietly anyway. Notice that Trump's administration and this Republican Congress have been charging full-steam ahead with their plans unchecked, and this is yet another area where they've been able to destroy what was a good law. They've also got Scott Pruitt as head of the EPA now. They want to abolish the EPA, which who knows what's going to happen there as quickly as things have been deteriorating for us. We're going to have to change our tactics if we expect anything to get done. Because all the protesting, the angry phone calls and letters, the chanting and marching that's been going on over the last few weeks... it's clearly not working, or else we wouldn't be where we are now. Not are we going to have to stop/oust these people, but we're also going to have to undo all the damage they've done.

Of course we're never going to permanently kill life on Earth, but we can totally fuck up the diversity for millions of years, even if we don't manage to kill ourselves.
Sabotage the means of pollution
A much less intrusive way to ensure the death of coal and gas is to install as much solar in your homes as possible. This needs to become a new trend for homeowners and landlords across the nation, especially since it is in their best interest to do so since they will save assloads of cash in doing so. I agree that we must accelerate the death of fossil fuel, but at the same time I understand that it is inevitable. Once Mitch McConnell and his ilk are gone, there will be nobody to keep the life support going. Unfortunately for West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, etc - I guess they'll have lead in their water for a few more decades. If Flint is anything to go by, I don't think anything will be done when millions of Americans are actually fucking poisoned, courtesy of the GOP.
That was the pointof of the comic. Mind you a good portion of people might switch over but we will always have people that will be willing to use coal as long as it remains even slightly more convenient for them to keep using it. Convenient can mean either cheaper or less effort required to switch to a new service or a lack of desire to potentially maintain solar panels. As long as demand remains the coal mines will keep supplying and that means that at the rate things are going they will keep polluting.
Hopefully people will do what they can to sabotage the companies that will do this.
yeah the comic kinda implies humans are the only ones affected
No it doesn't, it's pointing out that even if thousands of species go extinct, "nature" as a whole won't be in danger of dying off. But humans may very well be one of the species that disappear in the process.
