I've lived in Northern Canada (Northern Alberta, to be exact) for about 9 months, though not as far North as Iqaluit, Nunavut. Prices up here are higher than what I'm used to, but to compensate for that, the minimum wage is higher, at $9.40 an hour As a cashier, I got $12.04 an hour, since there are more jobs than people in the providence. I got promoted and then got paid $12.79 an hour, but I had almost no savings because of the cost of stuff up here Large Pizza from any pizza place? $25+ Gas? $1.20/litre+ Large Fries, Single Patty Burger, Large Drink? $9.50 35 pack of water was about $9 by the time Deposit and the Environmental Fee was added on Jug of Milk was $6 Still felt nice taking home $750 every two weeks, way more than what I'm getting down here in the US now And yes, my town was full of Native's. As a supervisor in the store I worked in, I was kicking them out almost every day because they were drunk and stealing shit. They would steal Hair Spray and Listerine just to drink that and get drunk. We had to keep them locked up in Cabinets and you needed $25 or more in groceries to buy them
