Iwata: Past success is proof that Nintendo isn't suffering

the wii u has transcended swag tho and is suave as fuck
Plus, I think the Wii U sales are going to pick up tremendously once they start getting the games out, just like the 3DS.
True, but I also think Nintendo needs to figure out a way to really pull in good 3rd party developers.
The Wii U is an incredible console that can do a lot more than the Xbox One/PS4 due to its motion control and extra screen. The immersion that you could create with the two screens and the pad is incredible. Most of the launch window titles were never able to exploit the Gamepad's true potential, because the first few releases were either a.) ports or b.) simplistic games with dev teams that had little time to work any interesting features out.
Don't get me wrong, Nintendo's releases - especially Pikmin, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, and 3D Mario - will pretty much keep Wii U sales afloat regardless. But the Wii U will reach a Gamecube-esque quality if they can find a way to charm more 3rd party publishers and developers again.
Edit: Oh also, not to mention: a lot of the more promising titles for the Wii U ended up poorly.
Rayman Legends has been significantly delayed beyond what anyone was expecting, to the point where it's coming out for the last few days of the Summer. And Aliens: Colonial Marines was virtually cancelled, after SEGA realized they were probably going to lose money while trying to push out the Wii U version (which reports said was actually, somehow, even worse than the other versions). That means one of the few strongest end-of-launch-window titles is Pikmin 3.
I wrote an article for my college newspaper about all three, and my editor was forced to take out Rayman on account of word count. When A:CM ended up being a total flop, I sure did have egg on my face :v:.
The Gamecube's handle and compact size made it the best console for bludgeoning someone to death in a pinch.
the ps2 was technically a better console but the gamecube had more swag
Technically better?
In what regard? (spoiler: none)
The only mistake nintendo made with the gamecube was going with those stupid non standard discs rather than DVDs. Otherwise it was a really fuckin good machine.

Honestly I think he might be right too, they were able to completely turn around the disastrous launch of the 3DS and were able to recuperate from the Virtual Boy in the 90s. Regardless of the fate of the Wii U, I doubt Nintendo is going anywhere soon.
I like how the Virtual Boy isn't even listed on the chart :v:
I like how the Virtual Boy isn't even listed on the chart :v:
Well it is kinda obvious where it is if you look at the downward spike during 1993.

Only reason I even owned a ps2 was for the third party games that came out on both PS2 and Xbox (like destroy all humans, GTA, the warriors, mercenaries, etc). The ps2 had some decent exclusives but nothing like the GameCube
people who say the wii u is failing underestimate what lengths nintendo fans go to when a new zelda or SMMMMMMASH bros comes out.
The WiiU is failing. You can't say "It's not failing games are coming out soon!" It'll stop failing once Mario Kart, Zelda, and Smash Bros come out.
Not that it matters. The WiiU could fail spectacularly and it'd hardly affect Nintendo in the long run, they make most of their money off Pachinko machines and handhelds. The future for Nintendo home consoles is a)The WiiU picks up and Ninty learn from their mistakes or b)The WiiU fails and Ninty learn from their mistakes and release a new console in 6 years.

The only problem is they are complete rehashes, I mean SHIT how long are they going to bank of the nostalgia element

hth the wii had a less than spectacular launch just like the wii U and it ended up dominating the console market with more sales than either the 360 or the PS3 in a come behind maneuver no one saw coming.
the same thing will probably happen with the wii U.
I think the most valuable lesson Nintendo has taught us is you can sell the most consoles in a generation yet simultaneously be the most underwhelming console of that generation.

They are throwing new IPs out there, especially on the 3DS. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some new ones show up on the Wii U eShop soon.

Wrong, the Wii was selling like hotcakes on launch. If you want a comparison for your argument, look at the failed launch of the 3DS and is bounceback.

i quoted my own post saying i was mistaken
the gamecube overpowered the ps2 though

also nintendo really struck gold with the gc's controller
oh man was it PERFECT
I love the GCN controller, but the Cstick, Dpad, and the Z button were shit.

The Wii was one of the best selling consoles of all time. It never had a problem with sales, it had a problem with not having units manufactured quickly enough. The WiiU is in the same place as the 3DS and the Dreamcast, only time will tell which path it follows. Though my money is on it bouncing back like the 3DS.

Yes, because the 3DS is currently bombing spectacularly and has no games, right?
i dont even know how you think ps2 beats it out in any way other than sheer volume of titles
The modding/homebrew communities on the PS2 really shined, there's that.
Don't forget the next Mario Kart. The lowest seller in the series (of the numbers that I could find) was Double Dash.
It sold 4 million copies.
Double Dash is the lowest seller? What the fuck, I always considered DD the best Mario Kart just for the whole team-kart mechanic alone
Double Dash is the lowest seller? What the fuck, I always considered DD the best Mario Kart just for the whole team-kart mechanic alone
It also has the most balanced item system

The Wii had the advantage of being cheaper and unique, the WiiU doesn't stand nearly as clearly in the current climate given how close it is to the PS4.

I think just the fact that it being on the GC was enough to make it hurt a little.
On topic with the Gamecube, the only reason it didnt do as hot as the others is because of the compact disks. They could only hold 1.5gb of storage while others had dual layered dvds with 8.5gb. That made it a problem with 3rd party wanting to make bigger games.
The GameCube was the best console of that generation. The dualshock controller is badly designed, Until the Controller S came out it was impossible to play the Xbox comfortably, and I dearly love my GameBoy Player. It also had a lot of great games, except for fucking mega man anniversary collection where it was B to jump A to shoot.
Yes, because the 3DS is currently bombing spectacularly and has no games, right?
I never said the 3DS was failing. In fact I said Nintendo is making most of it's money off it, if you would actually bother to read my post.
