Sounds crazy. And I wonder what the pilot that ejected at mach 2 felt.
the adrenaline rush would have probably been more powerful than any man had ever felt.
Whats with all the dumb ratings? :350:
Looks fake to me...

Ohhhhhh, SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii... Ting!
You get like 5 cm shorter just ejecting from a plane.
"without a canopy"
Typical Russia.
I'd be more impressed if he was flying backwards at the time.

"Hmm well we can leave the canopy on for our expensive jet and then have the pilot go through it or we could leave it off and spare ourselves the additional cost of putting a new one on.
I don't believe they did it at mach 2... The Force of the wind at mach 2 would break every bone in your body AND rip every piece of clothing and gear you were wearing off
Flying at mach 2 near the ground is probably not possible either, they had to be way up there

from the photos, it doesn't really look like they're near the ground

That's why those guys are wearing a pressure suit.

Pressure suits do not protect you from wind at mach 2, which *Will* Break every bone in your body when you're suddenly subjected to it, and rip everything from your body... But will leave your body itself intact, Just look at those Air France victims... and they weren't going Mach 2
They were probably wearing pressure suits, but not for any reason I stated

The AF victims bodies were intact, no body parts missing but they were broken and unclothed.

Damn, must had been scary.

Don't forget, there's still the windshield, and the pilot is directly behind it. But yeah, that sounds fucking extreme.
Balls of steel.
I read the title as Russian pilot ejects out of plane at mach 2 so he doesn't miss a movie ^^

Yeah that's what I thought too. That also would have been pretty badass
Gah, that looks scary...

You do realize the canopy pops off and falls away from the plane and that the pilot doesn't even have to touch the actual glass, right?
That's pretty outrageous.
Ejecting at Mach 2 is survivable, SR-71 pilots have punched out at Mach 3 and 80,000 feet and survived. It depends on your altitude and equivalent airspeed, the air at 80,000 feet is so thin that the actual force of the air is only equivalent to about 450 mph at sea level, and military pilots have successfully ejected at higher equivalent airspeeds than that. Tough to tell what the altitude in the photo is, judging by the clouds it looks fairly low. Not something I'd like to try.

You do realise he didn't say the pilot had to remove it, right?
It's common sense the canopy is removed prior or during ejection.
Removed by the pilot, or automatically removed, it's still removed and most likely lost.

He's strapped to a fucking seat and has diverse safety clothing. That is completely plausible.
Get your ass out of Lock On and stop pretending to know shit.
This has already been done before and the pilot only got his face swollen and couldn't see for quite a while, but his face wasn't protected in any way AFAIK.
That fire looks like a penis
If your penis looks like that then you might want to see a doctor.
Sweet unholy shitstains.
The ejection is nothing special, but the fact that they got all the way up to Mach 2 without a canopy says something for the pilot's skill. Just think of the wind resistance of having an open cockpit.
You get like 5 cm shorter just ejecting from a plane.
Overestimation. It is much much less, but you do get shorter. The ejection is so strong it forces your vertebrae together. Each time you eject your vertebrae get pushed closer and closer together eventually shortening your overall height (but it is very little).
actually, the article doesn't say they ejected at mach 2, just that they flew at mach 2 without the canopy, so yeah

You would still have to deal with getting a new canopy, it would be retarded to have to break through it.
You guys are saying that guy is badass, what about the whole movie?

On most planes the whole canopy gets thrown off rather than the pilot going through it.
