people are just too busy pretending they like certain bands (pink floyd, the who, led zeppelin etc.) just because they're "classic" when really there are thousands of bands under so many sub-genres nowadays who produce better music, "rock is dead" is just a stupid person's way of saying they don't look hard enough
IDK while I do think that there's a lot of good stuff coming out now, people shouldn't be ridiculing others for listening to older stuff.
Oh boo hoo, poor countries are pirating my music, boo fucking hoo. *let's just add a sad violin into the mix*

Oh boo fucking hoo
Rock is definitely not dead. If anything it became more interesting, threw away the cheesy lyrics, and began experimenting with a variety of genres.
The quality of music is not measured in it's sales but in how it lives on and influences the lives of those who listen to it.
Can you pay rent with 'how it lives on and influences the lives of those who listen to it'? Pretty easy to say piracy isn't a big part of the problem when you aren't an artist trying to deal with the lowest revenue at any point in the industry's history.
bands make a vast majority of their money from touring and doing live shows
Which have been in decline since the early 2000s. This is why concert prices have been climbing steadily over the last decade as organizers struggle to keep it profitable. You have to do some serious work to present the numbers in a way that suggests anything other than that the industry is declining.
bands make a vast majority of their money from touring and doing live shows
It's hard for indie bands to tour and do live shows though.
most big rock bands are dead so ofc rock is dead https://soundcloud.com/thesigit/detourne this song is really good
perhaps the industry is declining because of the ever closing gap of free time most people have?
Average household income expenditure on entertainment has risen steadily over the past decade. People are spending more on films and TV than ever before. It's not a free time issue. You really can't identify any factors that have had nearly a profound impact as filesharing. Paying for music is literally a joke.
