And I'd deserve the consequences for my mistake.
And I'm sure the guy you hit deserves to die from your stupidity.
Well there are cars with passenger airbag switches, so I don't see why we can't do the same for the rear passengers
Those switches are mandatory on regular cab pickup trucks in the US, lets you shut the passenger airbag off for the safety of a baby in that seat. I imagine it'd be mandatory for the rear seat airbags as well, for the same reason. I'd fit one anyway, mandatory or not. Airbags can easily kill babies.
Breaking your legs, and then hitting on this: would be better than breaking your legs and hitting your head on the windshield or the frame.
Mhm, definitely a benefit for innocent pedestrians that get hit by an out of control car.
Then I'm assuming such a system would only work at certain speeds, like perhaps 40-50 km/h which is common in the Swedish urban areas.
Most likely. Much faster than that and you'll go flipping into the air before the windshield gets to ya.
And I'm sure the guy you hit deserves to die from your stupidity.
Part of the consequences is having to come to terms with the fact that, because of that mistake, somewhere a young child is asking their mom if daddy's ever going to come back home only to be told he's never going to because some idiot couldn't control their car. The guilt of having caused an unnecessary death is one of the consequences that I'd deserve if I mow down an innocent pedestrian.
Despite the fact that I've avoided hundreds of morons that can't be bothered to take basic steps to avoid getting splattered, right? I mean, if this attitude predisposed me to being dangerous, then there's no way I could have avoided so many of them, right? Fact of the matter is I'm quite a safe driver. I avoid collisions the average person would never see coming. Doesn't change the fact that I couldn't care less about people too lazy to take their own safety into consideration. Then I'm inhuman. I don't really care what an anonymous poster on a gaming forum thinks about me. [editline]6th March 2012[/editline] They are pretty old tech, but they're not being fully utilized. I'd love to see airbags put into the backs of seats to offer some semblance of protection to back seat passengers as well, obviously with a switch to disable them if a baby is back there.
You've avoided hitting hundreds of morons suddenly appearing on the road? Maybe the traffic safety culture is a lot more dangerous in whatever place you are from, but people suddenly appearing on the road seems to be the cause of not looking around properly or going too fast.
You've avoided hitting hundreds of morons suddenly appearing on the road? Maybe the traffic safety culture is a lot more dangerous in whatever place you are from, but people suddenly appearing on the road seems to be the cause of not looking around properly or going too fast.
I love how you got the exact opposite sentiment from what I typed. They appear suddenly by darting out from behind parked vans or randomly changing direction without any indication of doing so. They 'suddenly appear' by coming out of somewhere they're not expected to or not visible from. I don't even need to slam on my brakes to avoid them most of the time, I'm going slow enough where I can just casually apply the brakes and avoid them no problem. Doesn't change the fact that they're idiots, and maybe one out of ten has their eyes pointed in my direction when they pop out from behind the parked van.
And I'd deserve the consequences for my mistake. Slow down until you're within a speed where you won't hurt anyone if it goes tits up. Not difficult, and anyone who fails to do this deserves the consequences. I'd deserve to get blindsided by a Suburban in that case. It'd be my responsibility to look out for my own safety, and if I fuck up I deserve a hood ornament lodged in my kidney. It's not their responsibility to look out for my fat arse, that responsibility is mine alone. That's why you don't do quick glances when you're looking for things that could kill you. ...Pretty much, yeah. If I jump out in the middle of traffic without looking to make sure it's clear and get smashed I deserve every broken bone I get, and I don't expect anyone else's sympathy.
And I don't want a bitch using facebook every 90 seconds on her phone while driving to kill me.
Part of the consequences is having to come to terms with the fact that, because of that mistake, somewhere a young child is asking their mom if daddy's ever going to come back home only to be told he's never going to because some idiot couldn't control their car.
Call me cold if you want, but my hood hinges are worth more than idiots that can't look both ways before crossing, and if the mistake is on my part I deserve the consequences resulting from splattering someone's gran all over my windshield.
yeah fuck people!! [editline]6th March 2012[/editline]
The guilt of having caused an unnecessary death is one of the consequences that I'd deserve if I mow down an innocent pedestrian.
this will certainly ease the pain for the grieving family.
So we shouldn't do anything to prevent human deaths just so the deaths themselves serve as punishment through guilt?
You gonna hand out a free Volvo V40 to everyone who can't afford one?
And I don't want a bitch using facebook every 90 seconds on her phone while driving to kill me.
I don't either. People like that are why systems like this get invented in the first place. [editline]6th March 2012[/editline]
yeah fuck people!!
Yeah. fuck people. I hate people. I hate society in general and spend as little time in it as possible. I don't imagine it's hard to tell I'm not a social type.
My hood hinges are worth more than some idiot that can't take five seconds out of their busy day to make sure it's safe to cross a street known to harbor 3,000 to 5,000 pound steel missiles that can turn them into a pile of ground chuck in a few milliseconds. It's common sense, something that's drilled into children literally as soon as they know English well enough to understand the message. Look both ways, look back towards oncoming traffic, THEN go when it is clear. Too dumb to look before you cross the street, but old enough to know better? Too dumb to have my sympathy. I do my best to avoid hitting them but I feel no sympathy for them if they do get hit.

Yeah. fuck people. I hate people.
}>@*~edgy~*@<{
About as edgy as a billiard ball.
You gonna hand out a free Volvo V40 to everyone who can't afford one? I don't either. People like that are why systems like this get invented in the first place.
You don't either? Then what's the problem? They're airbags. I'd rather have a popped hood or whatever you complained about than a dead person on my hands. Especially since the blame could be all put on you.
Yeah but fuck you, that pedestrian isn't coming back with your guilt. He is still dead. What if it was you? A car drives the fuck over you, not your fault, it still does. Would you be like "thank god that car didn't have airbags now he will have to live with the guilt" or more like "hngbrlrgrgrhl" because you're dead? Goddamn psychopath, get a sense of empathy before you drive a car. You shouldn't have a license. You are like Jeremy Clarkson if he was serious in the things he said.
You don't either? Then what's the problem? They're airbags.
They do thousands of dollars of damage when they deploy, matter of fact I wouldn't be surprised if the airbag itself costs more than a grand in this situation, and I don't want to have my car totalled out because some dipshit can't be bothered to look both ways before walking into the street. I feel sorry for innocent peds that get mowed down by people who can't drive, but I harbor no sympathy for people who dart out into traffic and expect cars to bend the laws of physics.
Goddamn psychopath, get a sense of empathy before you drive a car.
I have plenty of empathy for innocent pedestrians that get hit by drunk drivers or something, but I have zero for retards that can't look both ways before crossing a street......you know what? fuck it. I've said my piece. I don't need to keep defending myself against a bunch of anonymous screen names on a gaming forum. You guys have fun flaming me.
and if the mistake is on my part I deserve the consequences resulting from splattering someone's gran all over my windshield.
oh ok so if you fuck up you get to feel guilty for the rest of your life but they get to die makes sense

You even go as far as to say your precious car parts are worth more than some erroneous sub-human filth. But you're probably just some kid who is trying to push the envelop of edginess. If you're not, well I guess enjoy never making any dumb mistakes ever, being the flawless machine you are.
I hate society in general and spend as little time in it as possible.
thank god for that. now if you stop driving as well i can sleep in peace.
...Not in my driveway. I don't want my hood getting ripped off by an airbag because some dipshit didn't want to take five seconds out of their busy day to poke their head around the parked van and look at the traffic before running out into the street. Call me cold if you want, but my hood hinges are worth more than idiots that can't look both ways before crossing, and if the mistake is on my part I deserve the consequences resulting from splattering someone's gran all over my windshield. The LAST way to get me interested in your product, carmakers, is to advertise that it will wrench control of it out of my hands whenever it damn well pleases. Also, what guarantee do I have that, ten years from now, these systems won't mistake flying bugs for children and veer me into oncoming traffic at random? If you can't parallel park you shouldn't have a license, simple as that. Airbags deploy so quickly that the time between the bumper sensing an impact and the bag inflating is less than the time for the dipshit to make it from the bumper to the bag. They deploy so violently and so fast, matter of fact, that they can kill you if they happen to have an object sitting on them when they detonate. That's why you're advised not to put things on the dashboard of a modern car, not have children in the front seat, and to sit as far from the dashboard as is feasible.
Dumbest shit I've read (apart from the parallel parking part). A piece of your car is worth more than a human life? Alright then... No need to argue this one. The lane assist doesn't yank the steering wheel out of your hands, it's not even noticeable but still works. My parents have a Volkswagen which I've driven a few times and it has lane assist and I have never felt that I didn't have control of the car. Easiest thing I've ever driven.
Volvos are awesome with boost, I have a 240 that I turbo'd running 15 pounds of boost and I painted a Domo-kun on my hood

Might aswell drive a car made out of bubble wrap... And if said pedestrian airbags were to act like regular airbags, what if the airbag deploys on someone hitting your car, and sends them flying a few meters into oncoming cars, or just sends them flying a few feet and hit something violently instead?
You don't either? Then what's the problem? They're airbags. I'd rather have a popped hood or whatever you complained about than a dead person on my hands. Especially since the blame could be all put on you.
hey, corpses cant file lawsuits

The fact that you've avoided collisions the average person would never see coming suggests that the average person must have loads of collisions over their entire lives, which frankly I don't think is true.
Fact of the matter is I'm quite a safe driver.
Oh whoops sorry I take it all back then. I'm sure you'd have wished the car that hit you had an airbag, because you're not a paraplegic... etc etc... It's there for both sides, not just the pedestrian. This isn't going to make pedestrians walk out on the road no more than they do now.
*i harbour no sympathy for human jay-walkers* *Autism-bot logging off*
I intentionally drive in a manner that avoids hitting things.
Really? So do I!
