This is part of the bystander effect.
You assume that there isn't a problem, based on the actions of those around you.
(They aren't bothering, why should you?)
Because no one else believes there is a problem. You would be right about the bystander effect if people were aware that it was an issue. But, it's highly doubtful that anyone realised that it was a problem, because there's always cars stopped on the sides of roads, and that it could take people a while until they realize "Hey, haven't I've seen that car every day for the past week?"
There's this car parked nearby our local shop for 3 years already. Nobody gives a shining shit about it.

But why is a car being parked somewhere for weeks suspicious anyway?

Exactly. It likely won't cross anyone's minds.
If I'm on a busy Auckland road, chances are I've got somewhere I need to be. I'm not gonna go check everyone's car to see if they need a cup of tea or a little cuddle.
In what appears to be a:

Area where people are not only driving by, but also possibly walking by as well?
For 5 days?
how can you think people are walking past? there is no footpath on that road at all noone walks there
I know you guys have already crucified him for what he has been saying but I just want to point this out.

On a busy road with dozens of people going 30-40 MPH, you honestly think someone will pull over, and check to see if something is wrong? :v:
Even as a pedestrian I don't look into cars. As a driver I would certainly not.
It wouldn't have been a surprise to me if it stood there a whole month without getting noticed.
It's not like you are checking every parking cars for corpses every day.
Wait, guys, you mean you don't check up every car sitting on side of the roads you pass by???
You guys are creeps!
What a fucking horrible world we live in.
The car has been sitting on the side for ages, and the reasoning behind that effect is that people think somebody else has already taken action.
Shutup, nobody saw the body
There might have been some foul play involved.
Or he had a heart attack.
I sure remember every car that I pass by.

The smell must have been terrible
