and now, nearly 20 minutes later, it begins
Stream picks up...
Oof, Sean Spicer looks rough.
saudi - american economic agreements
When was the last time something like this has happened in the past?
Something about trump will be supporting NATO, but be noting how other members should contribute more

questions begin...
[editline]16th May 2017[/editline]
reporter - is washignton post story false?
response - the premise is false, there was no lapse in security, only by those leaking to the press
Trump mouthpiece:
"The real threat to our national security are the people leaking info about the Trump administration!" (Paraphrasing)
McMaster was supposed to bring balance to the Trump administration, not leave it in darkness
reporter - are you denying that trump revealed information to russians?
response - in context of that discussion, what was shared was appropriate
"I'm not going to be the one to confirm that information that could jeopardize our security."
reporter - why are the NSA and FBI alarmed with what was shared
response - they were being cautious
"If nothing sensitive was said, then why were American Intelligence agencies put on high alert regarding the comments?"
"I don't know. Maybe it was an over abundance of caution?"
He is just taking questions and not answering them. What a joke.
McMaster is speaking very carefully
reporter - why did trump share the information? was it a spontaneous decision? or planned?
response - he made it in the context of the conversation (so spontaneous)
I wish we could know what was said.
reporter - did trump reveal the name of a city? that revealed the ally?
response - ISIS is bad, nothing you wouldnt know from open source reporting (what?)
"Did Trump reveal a city? The story is that Trump revealed intelligence about a city that jeopardized an ally."
"ISIS is in lots of cities. You could name a lot of different cities, all of which are publicly known, that would be relevant to the ISIS threat." (Paraphrased)
lmao
reporter - was sharing the information justified?
response - i cant say
So he pretty much is saying:
"he revealed everything the press and allies have already known, things you guys should know"
then also says
"I cannot tell you specifically what the information was"
reporter - why are you denying things we didnt even ask about?
response - we dont say what is classified with what is not.
"Did Trump reveal classified information to the Russian government that could compromise our security allies?"
"We won't say what's classified or what's not classified. Trump revealed information that was appropriate at the time."
reporter - should the NSA be worried about future leaks
response - i think this was a bad leak but we should work on the flow of free information amoungst allies (he is contradicting himself now). we need to be confident in trump.
reporter - how can we be confident in trump with what happened yesterday?
response - we need to take steps to prevent this from happening again
Why is the national security advisor in charge of giving this press briefing anyway? I guess he's jack of all trades, mcmaster of none
Why is the national security advisor in charge of giving this press briefing anyway? I guess he's jack of all trades, mcmaster of none
Because the current press secretary is incompetent
"Since Trump will be meeting with countless world leaders, how will you prevent him from disclosing sensitive information?"
"The president didn't even know where the information came from, but it was appropriate to share it, and I'm confident that he won't reveal anything else to the other world leaders he'll be meeting with."
(All quotes paraphrased, fast moving).
"trump was not even aware of the details of what he leaked, so it should be fine"
"ok, we are done for the day, no more questions"
*leaves stage as reportors erupts with questions, a few shouts of "you are being contradictory!"
Apparently it is a threat to national security to leak information that can be publicly found by open sources?
Was just going to post this. This is all absurd and it's clear that he came there to say only the few lines he was given.
"The more you tighten your grip, General McMaster, the more leaks will slip through your fingers."
Wait, did he just say the president wasn't even aware of where the intel came from?
Summary of conference responses from McMaster:
-- The real threat to our security are people informing on the Trump administration
-- Trump did reveal information to the Russian government
-- They will not confirm whether the information was classified, because confirming that would undermine our national security interests, but insist it was somehow "appropriate" to share with a hostile foreign government
-- Trump did not plan to reveal the information, he just sort of blurted it out
-- Trump "didn't even know where the information came from"
-- ISIS is bad
Basically, a whole lot of non-info filtered through the official Trump spin team.
