A bit much? If the apparent situation is true, they literally tried to take over the US government from the inside. The US should throw everything short of war at Russia; it's clear their government has no interest in peaceful coexistence.

to achieve what though? to what end? permanent cold war style conflict? That won't stop russia doing what they're doing, it might even encourage them to up their antics perhaps trying to convince EAU or middle eastern countries to stop trading in the dollar. Then US will be in a spot of bother.
Sanctions really fucked the ruble around the Crimea issue. The U.S. is one of, if not the strongest economy in the world.
Economic warfare would be the way to go.
wasnt that the oil price dip which did damage? sanctions were ineffective because the EU (a bigger trading partner than russia) didn't stick to their proverbial guns.

No, the oil anti-crisis was what fucked Russia big time. Their economy relied heavily on oil prices and all of a sudden fracking happened, the price dropped, and Russia's oilfields are suddenly worth half as much.
Say Trump is impeached and imprisoned, the interference of Russia is solidly confirmed and a new government is decided, what would the response towards Russia be, realistically?
Probably heavy sanctions and a bit of saber rattling. If things continue to escalate though then we may see a rekindling of the Cold War. I doubt we'd see an actual war though because the idea scares the shit out of everyone since we're talking about the two major nuclear powers in the world.

There are two options. Sit around and hope Russia's government eventually gets replaced by someone who isn't hell bent on waging war--and this, to be clear, is a form of warfare--on the west, or attempt to crush Russia's economy so it does not have the ability to wage war on the west.
Sitting around and doing nothing on the offensive is a gamble; it's hoping the problem goes away before it breaks through the defenses and does any more damage. We (the world) is in the same boat with NK currently; and the sitting around strategy there has only moved us closer to an unstable dictatorship having ICBMs.
History tells us appeasement is not a solution.

Maybe he will invoked the second amendment people again.
If your dad thinks Breitbart is a legitimate news source then he's so far gone it would take a very, very long time to convince him otherwise on this issue.
Your best bet is to slowly try and convince him as the impeachment train rolls Trump off of capitol hill that this entire time Breitbart has been fabricating stories in order to radicalize people.
I just finished a final paper analyzing media slant and how they frame certain issues, and I had to read the fuck out of a lot of super conservative and super liberal news sources. Breitbart's news reporting was not at all bad - where they got weird was how they framed issues. One article talked about how "trump supporters and worker" supported some the Charter deal, but that "the media" and a "Mexican official" criticized it as "worthy of a banana republic." They'd report actual true facts, and then frame it to reaffirm pre-existing beliefs.
There aren't many genuinely fake news sources - the difference between news sources is how they chose to frame issues, and what issues they choose to report on. Like Fox framing the headline of Trump leaking to Russia with "IT DIDNT HAPPEN" before anything else. Every media org does this, some are just worse - Breitbart is bad but if you do original research you can find the actual info they're reporting and get your own opinion minus the framing. But people are lazy so.
I keep on hearing all this stuff about how the president can declassify what he wants at any time and is therefore justified, wasn't there a good post in here that debunked that line of thinking?

I know that this keeps being posted:
The information Trump relayed had been provided by a U.S. partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the U.S. government, officials said.
The partner had not given the United States permission to share the material with Russia, and officials said that Trump’s decision to do so risks cooperation from an ally that has access to the inner workings of the Islamic State.
He can also launch nukes whenever he wants. But it's okay if he just does it randomly, because it's legal right?
[editline]18th May 2017[/editline]
The point is that just because the president can legally do something doesn't universally exonerate him for being a dumbass. Critical thinking is required

For the last few weekdays, leaks have been timed around the same period towards the end of the day. If today (and ideally tomorrow, and future week days in the foreseeable future) follow the same pattern set by the last three days, we should expect another bomb-shell leak sometime soon-ish. Sooner than later today.

I know this can be coincidental but there's like ~70 people in his banner photo and as far as I can tell they're all white.

Because protest wasn't assertive enough a word. I can get why they, like their idol, constantly project an image of power, but am I the only one to find it ridiculous in how obviously it's overcompensating for something?
