Why has the majority of the games industry gone fucking brain dead in a pointless effort to appeal to casual gamers.
More profit because casual gamer does not get so in depth as we do into the marketing side of developers who like to screw us so they can appeal to this casual group which does not question their politics.
if you want to stay profitable for as long as possible... look at Unreal gold/UT99, Oblivion, Morrowind and Half-life 1, and god knows how many other old games like them are out there. Old as fuck, people are still buying them. Why? Versatility, mods, OPEN modding no less! Power to the player through a powerful engine and even more powerful editor. Otherwise, your game will not last. Why? Because no one can make their own swords for themselves, or download user content and maps and qeusts free. Only a true idiot would prefer DLC WELL over free user content.
Problem is they can't make money directly from the mods. And that's the part most companies can't get past. Also if you look at most of the longer-lived F2P games you'll noticed that new official content typically isn't anywhere near as much work as a full game or expansion. Usually it's just a model and some variables. If you're in it for the money then that's a really attractive idea.
So, some games may still cost $60, but they’ll at least have plenty of fun micro-transactions.
I hope whoever thought of this gets cancer

Skyrim is a good example.
I hope whoever thought of this gets cancer
Don't be a smartas- wait
I bought HoN solely to play custom games/maps, which were promised early on. 3-4 years down the line, no sign of custom maps ever being implemented, yet the game is now F2P and the dev's interest is clearly solely rooted in making their shitty money than providing a feature they promised would be added. So yeah it really does suck. I wish we could go back to the days of buying WC3 for £30 and having thousands upon thousands of hours of game-play for years and years, with no shitty DLC or closed platform nonsense.
Shit publisher. RIP to all developers working for them.
maybe by fun microtransactions they mean like character packs or new skins or whatever. stuff that does not really add to the game
maybe by fun microtransactions they mean like character packs or new skins or whatever. stuff that does not really add to the game
This is ubisoft.
Something tells me this another case of a Ubisoft publisher spouting a bunch of shit about stuff they don't know about, like always, and won't end up happening. The majority of their games wouldn't possibly work on a F2P market, and the developers know that. I'd be surprised if they managed to actually follow through with this considering the spokesman doesn't actually help make the games.
It could work like Coreonline, imagine playing AAA games by earning minutes from watching ads.
Honestly, I see no problem with this at all (well, except one...). They want to give away their games for free, fine by me. Might even improve some of them, because F2P an both strengthen and weaken titles. However, for big-budget titles, such as Sleeping Dogs, that have no multi-player model, there's no appeal. Because people aren't going to spend $20 on an item in a campaign (or whatever SD has) when there's no replay value. Once you've played it X amount of times, you're gonna get bored. They'll lose cash instead. If they want to make "Assassin's Creed XIVV: F2P OMGZZZ!", fine by me. Just keep trying to kill yourself, Ubisoft. I doubt many will care.
And TF2 totally doesn't have you grind the shit out of the game for days or put up with the awful trading community to get an item you want, right?
Or you could, you know, just play the game. I couldn't care less about weapons or hats in the game. I just like to play the game. Because it makes fun. And that's what matters in games.
