Glad this made the news. Kid should sue his parents aswell. Fuckers downright assaulted him for no fucking reason.
Ahh the South. Wouldn't expect any less from a place that started a civil war over their supposed state "right" to having slave labour.
And who's the bigoted, close minded person here?
Good for the kid on the fundraising though
ya i don't understand why gay men do that. tons of gays that sound normal and not like a upset little girl.
Plenty of straight people sound the same way, you just don't remember them.
"You go on about science all you want, I'm going by the word of God." Ugh, fuck religious people so much. I hope he takes whatever help he was able to get and moves to a more enlightened part of the country. The South deserves to be left to wallow in their own collective hatred and prejudice.
I think the super-ultra fundamentalist, intolerant and insensitive cruel religious people should go somewhere at least if they're going to attack someone for being gay. Some people don't realize how equally bitter and stupid they can sound when they generalize an entire population because it might house a few bible thumpers. edit: I don't want to wallow in my own filth :( also worded terribly but I feel really bad for the guy but the internet hooked him up really well I think his parents will come around.
I've heard that the son received some money in donations to help him. Shame that this had to happen to him though, I'd hate to be in his position right now, knowing your own dad and your stepmother won't accept you and would rather kick you out of the house.
Read the video description, people are still donating.

The Deep South leads the country in virtually every statistic you don't want to lead the country in. Religiosity, segregation, poverty...it is, objectively, the shittiest part of the country.

That one is a real ripsnorter
personally i'm a christian and i could care less about what you do in the bedroom, i don't get why so many think that if you're gay you're the embodiment of satan himself
the civil war was focused around the issue state rights and autonomy in general slavery was just the straw that broke the camel's back, the civil war wasnt just centered around slavery, just one of a bunch of issues at the time
Tell that to the vice president of the Confederacy:
Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth. [...] Those at the North, who still cling to these errors, with a zeal above knowledge, we justly denominate fanatics. [...] They assume that the negro is equal, and hence conclude that he is entitled to equal privileges and rights with the white man. If their premises were correct, their conclusions would be logical and just but their premise being wrong, their whole argument fails.
http://teachingamericanhistory.org/library/document/cornerstone-speech/ Sure sounds like it was about states' rights, the state's right to legalise slavery.
To all the straight people that say Gay people made a choice, I propose a single question At what age did you choose to be straight
To all the straight people that say Gay people made a choice, I propose a single question At what age did you choose to be straight
15. At age 14 I was a homosexual and made a wish on my 15th birthday for God to fix me. Praise Jesus and his magical sexual healing that changed me in the night.
Why dos it always come down to this:
"Because its not natural" - List of animals displaying homosexual behavior. "Oh .. I meant homosexuality won't produce children" - The fact that kids grow up homeless in the 21st century are worrying. We don't need more kids .. we need more people to adopt and take care of them. [see] "Its a choice" - So can you fantasize about your own gender? and if it was a choice, then what is then wrong with it? "My religion.." - Fuck you trying to force people to do your way of doing.
In the end. Its non of your business what other people are doing or believe in .. as long its not hurting or forcing anyone.
the civil war was focused around the issue state rights and autonomy in general slavery was just the straw that broke the camel's back, the civil war wasnt just centered around slavery, just one of a bunch of issues at the time
A state's right to what exactly?
people who say the civil war wasn't about slavery and just under the blanket term of state's rights are wrong a bunch of shit allowing slaves to get representation to the state started being legislated and whites were like oh fuck oh fuck we're going to be poor what do we do
Shit if you paid attention to history class or studied history at least on any kind of higher level you'd know this look at the various compromises specifically about slavery, look at the south's economy depending on slave labor, look at the Kansas-Nebraska act or Bleeding Kansas or John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry or shit anything the Civil War and everything leading up to it in some way hovered around the slavery question, there's no doubt about it
He did tell his own family that they didn't raise him and that he owed them nothing. With his voice and the way he speaks I suppose that he acted like an insufferable petulant child all the time. The family are fully within their right to kick him out - and giving him five across the face for having the gall to say his parents did nothing to raise him is perfectly fine too. Plus I get the feeling people will donate to any liberal cause just because it's a liberal cause. See Quinn, Sarkeesian... there's no proof anywhere this isn't a scam and the video isn't fake. I don't know why gay people have to tell people. Ig you know there's a chance you could be oppressed, keep it to yourself
While it is true that the Civil war was "about" slavery, trying to make the South look like it was all about just endorsing slavery is an oversimplification. Imagine if Congress wanted to pass a law which would outlaw all factory work in the United States. This would appreciably damage the economy of lots of places. If it happened to be that those places were all say, in New England, then New England would probably revolt as a section. It's not until about one hundred years ago that the United States stopped having armed insurrections over things as basic as luxury taxes and worker's rights. The Civil War was about one half of the country not being economically reliant on slavery, and trying to impose a humane restriction on the half that was economically reliant on slavery. Slavery is morally repugnant. There were minority opinions in the South that said as much. However, just like closing down all of New England's factories would understandably outrage and deprive that section of the country, taking away slavery in a unilateral choice is equally unfair. It's also economically exploitative. In fact, most of the issues with "The South" stem from the economic situation that was a direct result of the civil war. Southern industry and infrastructure was either destroyed, or forced to restart on the backs of a newly arranged society. The south never managed to diversify beyond agriculture, shipping and processing as an economic portfolio. This portfolio collapsed in later years, due to the effects of global trade etc. Meanwhile, other regions of the nation enjoyed benefits in either natural resources or economic diversification (oil booms in the west, and corporate growth in the North East). The in turn lead to widespread, endemic poverty in the south that was not felt elsewhere. This was compounded by a lot of factors that would be tedious to name. Generally, in areas with high poverty you tend to see an increase in political radicalism and religion. If we operate on the assumption that the south has been broke for the last 160~ years, then it makes sense that due to the civil war, the south is gripped by a number of poverty related issues, and cannot economically stabilize itself on its own. It is not the south's fault that it is full of uneducated people who believe in an angry god. It's the fault of no one having a long term solution for fixing 'the south.' The same effect can be seen in slums around the country, the rust belt, and busted towns in the midwest.

Seriously, that type of ignorance is WHY gay people feel like shit. Saying they had their right to kick him out and attacking him was fair, man, you don't understand what you're saying at all, to an embarrassing point to be honest. Legalizing homosexuality isn't a "Liberal" cause either and your who "There's no proof this isn't a scam", you obviously don't understand that MANY gays kill themselves because they tried to hide being gay, but it got out anyways, and they were bullied into suicide. I'm legitimately confused, are you this ignorant or trolling? like I'm not even angry, you're a very strange dude. [sp]just kidding please stop[/sp]

See how that makes you feel. Also, yeah, there's no proof anywhere this isn't a scam and the video is not a fake. There's also no evidence that it's a scam or that it's fake. Innocent before proven guilty, and you have no real reason to be suspicious. And kicking him out because he's gay and flamboyant? You really support that? Because you assume he acted one way? You really are basing almost all of your judgements on random shit that you just assume is true for no damn good reason, and it speaks to me that you have some sort of underlying bigotry and want to dislike him and this.
the youtube comments on that video make me want to drink bleach
no one should have to hide who they feel they are or be treated like second class citizens, that's completely fucked.
Just because you shouldn't have to doesn't mean it's not a good idea not to do it. I shouldn't have to look through the peephole when I'm answering the door, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't do it, because I don't know what's going to happen if I don't. I shouldn't have to lock my car when I go do my groceries, but if someone steals my car, they're not the idiot. I am. They may be bad people, but if my car was stolen, it is absolutely my fault. There are things you shouldn't have to do, but that still should be done so that you can stay safe. Same with coming out. People aren't perfect. Perhaps he didn't know how people were going to react to him coming out - they reacted badly, and that is completely is problem, not anyone else's. Maybe it's wrong, maybe it's immoral, but the bottom line is that it is, and if he was too blind or stupid to realize that his FUNDAMENTALLY RELIGIOUS SOUTHERN FAMILY wouldn't feel too hot about him being homo, and then went ahead and told them, he really has no one to blame. You're asking an entire family to radically change their beliefs for a single person, as opposed to a single person keeping something to themselves - something that's personal to them to begin with and has nothing to do with their family. Don't you think that's fucked?
Don't you think that's fucked?
Nope. I think your downright retarded mindset is fucked. You're part of the problem, and I hope you'll realize that when you hit puberty.
