Does this mean I can return my Origin copy? "Don't need Origin to launch the game" my ass, when I went on Battlelog to join a game, it automatically launched Origin on my account and started the game. That qualifies as "You need Origin regardless" in my book. I don't know if they changed it, but that's what I remember hearing in a press release.
I'm pretty sure they can just change a couple lines of code, so that the join request can be sent to the Executable instead of Origin. Actually I really want to try this now with the beta and see if Origin will be used for DRM. If I can keep Origin just for a download manager and not a launcher, I will be very happy.
Battlelog is pretty innovative, I like it because I can show my friends my stats and add friends via battlelog really easily. Combining this with launching the game from it. Unless we get the Physical Warfare Pack from getting it on Steam I will stick with Origin. No problems with the program myself. Downloads games just as fast as Steam and uses 1/3rd the memory idling.
i dont know why people are bitching about origin anyways when the battlelog shit is way worse origin is fine and has fast download speeds oh no EA knows my PC specs without asking me first think of the children

You can see the stats for all the games that support it on a user's Steam Profile, you can launch the game from Steam, and add your friends on Steam. It also handles all the authentication and updates.
I couldn't care less about Battlefield 3; it ain't my game. All I care about is BioWare's RPGs getting onto Steam.
Honestly I don't give a fuck as long as I get Mass Effect 3 on Steam, that would be absolute bullshit if I couldn't get the entire trilogy on one account.
As a point of contention, Steam does all that already. Last time I did check Steam was not cross-platform and did not support extensive in-game stats tracking for Battlefield 3. You're honestly being stupid when you suggest something like that. You're basically suggesting that you can put new food into a sealed aluminum can on its own. Origin isnt that much of a hassle you lazy fucks, it takes less of a time to open origin then it does to launch steam... then you people go on and bash its TOS when Valve has the same "Evil" measures in place. Then you people go on and complain about not having steam friends in-game, in which case you're a fucking idiot for no knowing how to set a non-steam game for the overlay. Common sense goes down the drain when it comes to fanboys, oh well, I guess not everybody has a brain..
Today i canceled my preorder, good thing apparently, if this is coming to steam i just might buy this. But it still doesn't fix the fucking terrible server browser system.

I wish EA would embrace Steamworks in the way that Eidos and Bethesda has in the past.
I wish EA would embrace Steamworks in the way that Eidos and Bethesda has in the past.
It would require extensive modification as said before, so it would not be done because valve would say no. Which is why Battlelog exists, because EA and DICE wanted more control over what they can do such as stats tracking and forums etc. What do you people not understand about steamworks not being capable of where they wanted to take Battlefield 3. To everybody who cancelled your preorders, it was a waste of time because 99% this is a trolling attempt.

They can already track stats like accuracy, KDR, all of that. The problem isn't really on Steam's side, it'd be on DICE's side. As for cross-platform? You know, they already support some cross-platform play between PC and PS3, correct? And Valve have already said that CS:GO will feature cross-platform play.
You're honestly being stupid when you suggest something like that. You're basically suggesting that you can put new food into a sealed aluminum can on its own.
What? What kind of analogy is that? The problem is largely on the side of the developers to properly implement it, which Valve would surely assist with.
Only way to save Battlefield 3 is adding per-order hats.

This would not work... What part of Steamworks isnt capable of BF3 Stats tracking can you not understand? Not just stats tracking, the social aspect of it like forums integration etc would not work on Steamworks. I honestly doubt you have even used Battlelog for more then 10 minutes so I give up on you.
Okay, okay, assuming you have used Battlelog extensively as I have and you wanted everything in Battlelog to be available in Steam.
Because they can't just send the existing stats to Steam if they chose to do so? You're really starting to grasp at straws here, pal.
You're an idiot. Are you honestly saying taking every function of battlelog and implementing it into Steam is possible keeping in mind Valve's obvious "No"
We don't even know if it is coming to Steam, and you don't know what it coming to Steam would entail any more than the rest of us.
I know we don't know if it will be on Steam, hence why I used if, not when. But I can assume and guess from previous behavior by EA, it won't use Steamworks.
Great news, but sadly i won't be buying it on Steam even if it really comes there. Steam has stupid prices here in EU. $=€ for Steam, which really isn't fair. So why should i pay 49.99€ for a digital copy of the game, if i can get a retail copy for 35€.
Most arguments aside, it's like the ability to only have 1 console hooked up to a TV and only having 1 game for X console and the other 20 for Y console. I back steam completely, Origin isn't necessarily bad, but I personally feel they're going about it all wrong. I don't enjoy that it watches my computer more or less, Steam could do it but I've yet to see anything Steam/Valve has done that was intrusive really. I have everything for Steam, not to mention Bad Company 2 was on it and had DLC. I haven't read into the issue much, but I'm sure there are easier ways to work around it. Also, my Steam account is quite secure in my eyes. They added that new "security code" request when on an outside computer and I think it works. EA just needs to go with the flow. They could RECOMMENDED it for Origin, but had it work the same through Steam.. or something. It's all just silly really. Also, Why wouldn't battlelog work in Steam? I can't see why not.. I use Chrome exclusively for battlelog just to prevent Firefox from screwing anything up (since I can now multitask even more now)

The only way BF3 would come to steam was if Steam launched Battlelog into your browser since Battlelog uses a Chrome plugin to launch BF3 from web interface. Or if Steam launched a Origin client similar to the way some games use GFWL on steam.
Knowing EA it wouldn't surprise me that if it comes out on steam, the installation for the game after you buy will just install Origin and steam will provide a CD key :V
I'll guess the Steam version will require Steam, Origin and Battlelog running to launch the game.
Fuck me I already preordered on Origin.
Suddenly, millions of pre-orders.
Well, if this proves to be true then I'm glad I decided not to to plunge into the shithole that is Origins. My patience shall be rewarded.
Well, if this proves to be true then I'm glad I decided not to to plunge into the shithole that is Origins. My patience shall be rewarded.
Whats so bad about Origins?
Yeah, it'll come out for Steam, just after it releases, forcing those who held out to buy the Day 1 DLC for $10 if they want to play on Karkand and 3 other fucking maps
Well EA is losing a lot of customers (as they tweeted, they lost 35 000 preorders during the first two days of beta), so they indeed may be trying to release steam version.

That was fake yeah. It was over the twitter character limit.
