Also, is this another Facepunch exclusive? I still remember the Crysis 2 Gold release leak that also came to light here :v:
So is this as critical as the 2003 conflict when someone managed to get access to the HL2 Beta?
So is this as critical as the 2003 conflict when someone managed to get access to the HL2 Beta?
I wouldn't really say it is, since it's 5 year old source code. What's probably gonna cause problems is the internal private stuff like Microsoft's private APIs
csmania.ru is down? Holy shit.
I can access it, redirects to http://csmania.ru/news.php
So whats the difference between this and the code you get when creating a mod with the sdk?
So whats the difference between this and the code you get when creating a mod with the sdk?
Engine code (minus VPhysics), game code (TF2, CS:S), tool code (Hammer). Basically, an even bigger mess.
They found a remote access shell on Valve's licensee server?
No, the dude that got the licensee code had an shell on his server, that Russians found and stole the code.
So is this as critical as the 2003 conflict when someone managed to get access to the HL2 Beta?
No, far from but at the same time kinda. This could lead to some exploiting of servers, and make it easier for hackers to create the perfect wallhack. Fortunately the VAC code isn't in this (and it would be weird if it was).
They found a remote access shell on Valve's licensee server?
How much shit would you be in if it somehow was your fault? Like would it be oh dear or would your heart sink to your stomach and...
How much shit would you be in if it somehow was your fault?
Does no one here know the backstory behind the golden wrench fiasco?
Does no one here know the backstory behind the golden wrench fiasco?
nope
Here is a more accurate translation:
Everyone remembers comrade adamix'es thread, yes? Introducing an archive with a bunch of sources for various engines (act quickly, it might die very soon, and I don't know where to upload it in case of deletion): http://adamix.ru/Engines_Sicrit.zip (Password: 8660adf65c6d2e186192c189c701e86c) And, the Shell itself: http://adamix.ru/test.php (lots of interesting stuff lies directly in the root folder of the site and the /storage folder, possibly even photos and other deanon stuff from comrade adamix, I didn't check) If anyone wishes to download the whole www and /storage folders, I wouldn't mind, too lazy myself, otherwise plenty of neat stuff in there P.S. I wasn't the one to upload the Shell, I only found it there, try not get seen with it, ESPECIALLY if you don't know how Shell works (just in case) P.S.S. So how did this end up in public? I'd like to point out right away, that the "buyer" was one guy I know, that seems to have been really pissed off by adamix.

and make it easier for hackers to create the perfect wallhack.
been already done afaik
been already done afaik
He means 99.9% perfect, though. A bug free, trackless, across the map wallhack/ESP. That's what I'm guessing, so I may be wrong.
He means 99.9% perfect, though. A bug free, trackless, across the map wallhack/ESP. That's what I'm guessing, so I may be wrong.
impossible source will limit the drawing distance esp works on heavy but not wallhack
Then as far perfect as it can get.
Well there goes my chances of hl3 before I turn 30
You can make source games with it and edit the engine in any way you want.
Only if it actually compiles, its entirely possible that there may be bits missing or have other requirements.
It'll be missing the vphysics binary for starters. But you could just grab that from a Orange Box game.
I'm pretty sure that valve is having all the important files somewhere on a ~disclosed~/ not connected to the internet server
As others have said, no. How do you think people like garry access the source code for the engine to be able to do things with it?
I bet Valve prints all the code on paper and sends the changes to Garry by snail mail. It's the only thing that'd make sense!
It'll be missing the vphysics binary for starters. But you could just grab that from a Orange Box game.
You mean the VPhysics source.
You mean the VPhysics source.
Well, yes. Jsm said compile, and the binary would be missing after compile :P NEVERMIND ME BECAUSE I'M TALKING STUPID TECHNICALITIES HERE LOL
valve stores files on their intranet intranet.valvesoftware.com or something like that
The fucking vphysics binary would have been the best thing for the guys in the binaries section trying to reverse engineer Valves stuff for months now.
The fucking vphysics binary would have been the best thing for the guys in the binaries section trying to reverse engineer Valves stuff for months now.
How would it benefit them when they're already trying to reverse the binary?
How would it benefit them when they're already trying to reverse the binary?
Because it would remove the reverse engineering step from whatever it is they are trying to do with it.
Because it would remove the reverse engineering step from whatever it is they are trying to do with it.
No it wouldn't. They'd need the source code for that. They could just use the 2003 source code, since (based on the interfaces in the SDK) things haven't really changed THAT much.
Engine code (minus VPhysics), game code (TF2, CS:S), tool code (Hammer). Basically, an even bigger mess.
So we can create our own Hammer?
First, the idea of releasing something for free inherently negates the idea that it is for profit. I can't even see how you could argue otherwise. Second, the $100 fee was because Greenlight was being absolutely flooded with troll submissions and stupid requests for major titles like Battlefield 3 to be added. (I'd also love to see how you determined what percentage of games that get on will be completely free but I suspect you won't be able to provide that proof.)
Uh, I never said releasing free games was for profit. I said JUST BECAUSE they release some free games that doesn't mean it isn't without intention for profit. I know very well what the 100$ fee is for. What I'm saying is that it's not very accepting of free games because they have to restrict a fee on it. And seriously, if you spend 100 dollars just to (possibly if your game is popular enough) get a 100% free game on Steam then you're stupid. (I'd love to see how you came to the conclusion that my percentage was a real percentage and not just a POINT that takes basis on how many free games steam has compared to how many pay-games it has)
If this were the case, they would require that developers apply some form of cost to their games, not allowing any free titles.
No, because the number of free games that will get through is insignificant compared to the number of pay games that they will earn money from. You're really fucking obsessed with how they allow free games and completely ignore the fact that most people don't actually put up free games for Greenlight, especially not now when they actually have to pay a one-time fee of 100$ in order to put it there. Why would they do that? If they do they probably got donations for it.
You mostly restated exactly what I said, so I don't see what you're trying to say with this.
I'm saying they want more money through offloading work, which is not at all what you said. If you read all of it you would know it was an argument about why it's about money in a way we don't mind, but nevertheless is about money.
You keep saying its all about the money, but that has little to do with anything in the end really, and more to the point isn't really correct as I've stated.
No, it's all about the money, as I've stated.
So we can create our own Hammer?
We could make our own build, yes. Nothing stops you from making your own Hammer without this code ;)
