When I work by myself, I just flip on Spotify on my phone and jam out
I just turn the radio to something other than Top 40 crap on repeat and rock out through the rest of my closing tasks.
Then a customer comes in 15 minutes till close and fucks it all up!
Tonight is hockey though, so I'll turn it to that.
A lot of customers have been freaking out over the new premium subs. I don't know what they honestly think I can do about it.

New premiums? What are they?
I work in a backwater Canadian Subway, so we're pretty behind in everything. We don't even have a Parmesan cheese shaker.

They're mad at the new name. It doesnt change jack shit about the sub, and if they buy it anyway they're wasting money.
Check this at your subways to make sure its not just mine, but I think I found a loophole in the $5 Any deal.
Check and see if a double-meat Stk&Cheese (PLUS the extra cheese) is still cheaper than the philly after the $5 deal

Oh shit, you guys are still doing that? We changed the Chicken Bacon Ranch, Steak and Cheese, and Roast Beef to all be premiums. They don't count for coupons and promotions (like the Double Dinner Deal) anymore. Also you're right about the double meat and double cheese steak (before the rules changed), that always bothered me.

The only sub that cant have the $5 discount is the philly around here (and maybe the Chkn Bacon Ranch now)
Shit, my store hasn't done 5$ deals for a long time.
Love to stay and chat, but now I've got to go make subs for the next five hours.

I remember when the Buffalo Chicken only cost $6 a year ago. Now it costs $6.75. They only change it in $0.25 increments so not many people notice.
Wow seems like we have quite a few Subway employees here.

Happens when Subway is the largest fast-food chain in the world

Three weeks ago I noticed a $.10 increase in delivery items. The spicy is no longer normally $5, abd the CCT got %25 smaller

I thought it was 10%.

hell if I know, nor care. They got smaller, but the boxes got bigger

I friggin noticed when it became $5.25 footlongs with like 25% less meat than a couple years ago to match the 25 cent price bump. I ate those all the time for like a year or two.
We should make a Subway discussion thread in GD. :v:
I myself work at a Subway in the Netherlands so we probably have different promotions than in the US.
So does every Subway franchise give employees a 6" sandwich for every 4 hours worked, or is that up to the owner?
My boss takes 3 euro off of my paycheck for every workday, so every time there aren't any customers I gorge myself.
Remember, only six olives.
We actually decided to do 12 at my store so you can actually taste some olive.
Subway says six, but everyone does like 30 - and the customers love it.
I have been trying to help some of the customers recently by trying to set up something like Jimmy Johns does.
Sell day-old bread for $1 each (Subway makes $.87 profit)
Sell day-old cookies for %50 off (Subway still makes a ton of profit)
Is Jimmy Johns a contesting Sandwich store?
Is Jimmy Johns a contesting Sandwich store?
As in, a competitor? I dont think so
Does it try to fulfill the same role Subway does?
Does it try to fulfill the same role Subway does?
Yes they're competitors, at least on a smaller scale. If a town has both stores, they're competing.
I was making the entire bag of meatballs at open, and another bag after it. (A case of meatballs a day)
We were doing that as well. Actually, sometimes 2-3 bags of meatballs a day.
My Subway is inside a major mall right outside the Philadelphia area. We get a lot of customers.
Yes they're competitors, at least on a smaller scale. If a town has both stores, they're competing.
From my understanding of Subway corporate policy, their goal is to saturate an area with as many franchises as they can to the point they're competing with each other. The theory is, if the Subways are battling for each other, there's no way an outside company could possibly squeeze in. And of course, corporation wins out no matter which franchises survive or not.

Hell, the Spicy Italian at my store has been $5.50 since July. Same with Meatballs. The only subs that are $5 still is the CCC, Ham, BLT, Pizza Sub and the Veggie Delight.

Fuck that, we only do that when the inspector is around. Other than that, we put 8-12 at minimum.

That's why my Quiznos disappeared and was replaced with another Subway.

I'm surprised, I thought everyone had to add the new subs to the premium list.
Adding the regular steak and chicken bacon I can see, but the roast beef as premium doesn't make much sense to me. Not many people buy it to begin with, at least at my shop.
[editline]21st January 2013[/editline]
Back to the topic at hand with bread not being long enough, my boss called me up when I was opening this morning. Conversation went like this:
"Okay, I'm going to tell you to do something. But I didn't say it. I want you to stretch the bread. I didn't tell you to do that; you didn't hear me say that. If you get caught stretching, it was just an 'accident'. Stretch it, but don't be seen doing so."
Seriously expected to hear "this phone call will now self-destruct" at the end :v:
Probably sat out on the line too long, or wasn't proofed enough in the morning.
As a Subway worker, there's so much shit that can cause this it's not even fucking funny.
And God help you if you're getting a six inch, we just eyeball that shit.
I'll confess. I've given 5 inch subs to customers who piss me off every once in a while :v:
Instead of fixing this and using bread that's an inch longer, they should use bread that are in the shape of feet.
Redefine the word footlong.
Going down to Subway to get a longfoot sandwich.
Edit:
Sweet onion chicken on Italian, with pepper jack, Jalapenos, Olives, lettuce, and peppers, with Sweet onion sauce, buffalo sauce, and sometimes Balsamic Vinaigrette, if they have it.
Toasted of course.
if they have Buffalo sauce, they're out of Subway code!
The only sub that cant have the $5 discount is the philly around here (and maybe the Chkn Bacon Ranch now)
Around here we used to have three categories: a $5, a category that was maybe $6 outside of lunch hour, and premium which is like $7.50 and only had the Philly (all prices footlong).
Now they have a $5.75 (which the ham got moved to, a move that really upset me) and a $6.something category.
(please note that i am speaking entirely as a customer here)
if they have Buffalo sauce, they're out of Subway code!
Maybe that's why the bottle of delicious Franks Red hot is labeled so oddly.
Shift over. Things were fairly quiet and I brought home some leftover soup and underbaked cookies.
Lo and behold, there was a note explaining to us what the "12-inch test" was and how to respond should corporate call inquiring about it.
Apparently our opener's response to "What should you do with a loaf that is too short" was "I dunno"
Bravo.
The correct answer is free sandwiches. Free sandwiches for everyone.

Good thing I don't work there
I probably would have answered with either "make it into my lunch" or "lodge a complaint about corporate's QA department", neither of which would probably have given me high marks :v:
