Right, because the only reason people hate Lulzsec is because it's cool.
Nothing to do with the fact that they endangered thousands or people's financial well-being, fucked with people's accounts, gave away people's private infos, disrupted and brought down gaming and legitimate business sites, stole information, and took requests to attack random websites, all just because.
I say fuck them both.

But that's not relevant to the fact that RIAA wants stricter control, as they are just using LulzSec as scapegoats to promote their agenda.

Sanius, how stupid are you?
I don't think even half of us here hate lulzsec to be "cool", no, they're a bunch of useless idiots hacking companies that don't even deserve it, and release the personal information on > 50,000 people.
So yeah, I don't do it because it's the cool thing to do.
Why is everyone mad at Lulzsec over this
If the government cited speeding as the reason to electronically limit the max speed of all cars to conform to the road's speed limit would you be blaming speeders or would you be blaming the government for making a really stupid and invasive decision based on the actions of the scapegoat of the day
Think before you post god damn
I think they're mad at Lulzsec because Lulzsec promised that the exact opposite of this would happen
it's a valid reason to get angry
Companies like Sony that store passwords in plain text and don't even take the time to update things like Apache and their linux kernals deserve whatever the fuck is coming to them. People trust them with sensitive information and they don't even give enough of a damn to properly secure it. LulzSec was a good thing. How anybody can be dense enough to blame LulzSec for something the RIAA is doing is way fucking beyond my comprehension.
I hate the fucking RIAA.

Lulzsec overdid it. They did too much hacking in a really short timespan.

That's irrelevant.
That's irrelevant.
Irrelevant to what exactly?

Are you fucking daft?
Lulzsec caused thousands of people to lose hundreds of dollars. Sure, Sony might deserve an ass whooping but not the people who use their services. Not to mention the personal information Lulzsec released. Did you read the twitter feed? Script kiddies were going batshit with people's PayPal and Facebook accounts. You're saying Lulzsec was a good thing while not looking at the thousands of terrible things they did.
RIAA is dumb, but some of the blame is directly caused by Lulzsec.
Let's be honest, is there anyone who truly didn't see something like this coming?
If there's one good thing LulzSec did, it's that they made everyone realize how bad their security is (i.e. Sony)

One good thing in an endless sea of bad things, still doesn't justify anything they did.

Lulzsec went on a carefree romp of destructive hacking for absolutely no good reason whatesoever. They screwed people over indiscriminately for no reason other than the eponymous "Lulz". I hate the RIAA because they have enough lobbyists to basically get a free line to the government that they can whine on and actually get things done while the actual people of the nation get nowhere near equal representation. At the same time, Lulzsec are morons because they got absolutely nothing done and gave the RIAA ammunition to use in getting their way even more easily. Basically, I'm mad at lulzsec because what matters in this situation is who has the better case, and right now they're severely damaging the case for internet freedom.

Stop defending these bastards their the cause for this shit their little rampage hacking spree started this

I'm not defending their actions as a whole. Nice strawman though.

The RIAA is definitely going to try to capitalize on any opportunity they see, yes.
But it doesn't help when internet "heroes" like LulzSec "break" into servers, harass executives, and purposefully try to make a name for themselves in the internet. Extremism like that doesn't help at all, at the end of the day it just hurts innocent people.
Sony didn't even have to respond to LulzSec by increasing security. The only reason they did was because it would hurt their popularity and sales. Remember when the reset password exploit was found just a few days later? LulzSec accomplished nothing because a lot of big companies just don't care enough in the end. And hostile attacks don't change mindsets and behaviors, unless they're overdone to the point of "too little, too late." Only a cultural change in how we view the internet is going to change how companies choose to protect their data - not a bunch of script kiddies getting clever with SQL.

Handing someone a crate of rounds hardly counts as giving them ammunition when they have their own bullet factory

What is your point? Do you only think in binary?
What is your point? Do you only think in binary?
You say that you don't agree with Lulzsec's actions as a whole but before that you said that Lulzsec was "a good thing".
Unless you can explain to me how those statements aren't totally contradictory, you need to admit you made some kind of error.

For the record, I don't believe that Lulzsec is to blame for this law - the RIAA was always going to try this crap without their interference.
thanks lulsec hope you had a few laughs in exchange for internet freedom and soon internet anonymity. LOL that was funny right guys? remember when they released dozens of user passwords? hahah shame about those p2p sites though
