How do I know that what I buy won't be obsoleted by something better in 1-2 months? History shows us that this is precisely what's going to happen. So, that is why I choose the iPhone, knowing that my 3GS, already 2 years old, is going to be perfectly functional for another year or two, still able to run the latest apps without issues.
That argument hasn't been relevant now since Android 2.1 came out a long time ago, yeah if you buy a shitty 500mhz phone from 3 years ago, you won't be able to run something like InfinityBlade on Android but that's a stupid argument. Standardized hardware works for Apple but if you're a true techie, you'll want the best hardware available to you and some of the Android phones made in the last year have exactly what Apple is spouting off as "revolutionary". Enjoy your smaller screensize, inferior hardware, inferior software and Apple's untimely updates.
Android might be 'open' but in reality that really doesn't mean much, if anything it's negative in my experience. As much as you guys love jacking off to the idea of an 'open operating system' but that just leads to fragmentation; updates take longer as carriers and manufactures 'customise' them (bloat them), apps may be unstable or not even available (mine-craft pocket edition isn't even compatible with my phone for example). The average user doesn't care if the market place is locked and regulated, the average user doesn't care about rooting or installing ROMs, the average user doesn't care or understand what it means to have an 'open' operating system; they just want something that works and works well.
I love this. Apple's marketplace consists of self-contained apps so that they can knuckle down on any potential vulnerabilities. It is also a very clean way of storing/operating, as apps are dealt with in an optimized come-and-be-served way, without effecting anything external to themselves. This frustrates wannabe-nerds, as they can't 'intend to make a sweet OS with nyan cat running around' which they probably wouldn't ever make anyway. This frustrates nerds as they can't 'emulate pokemon blue'. They choose to challenge the iPhone, stating it's shit because 'it has low CPU speed' or 'it's not open source!' which is Apple's choice ultimately. Little do they know that the OS they're using is using up probably about 80% of that CPU speed that's available to them in hardware abstraction routines alone (because the OS has to run on such different hardware). This is the same reason why Mac's are so goddamn fast compared to PC's, yet the specs are usually a lot lower. When you design an OS to function with specific hardware, it instantly becomes much, much faster than if you try to make it run with EVERYTHING.
If you don't buy from Apple, what do you even get? http://www.google.com/phone/ Any of these? There's fucking hundreds of them.
You do a bit of research instead of buying a phone which is more expensive and not as good as the current top phones on the market simply because it is made by Apple.

[editline]4th October 2011[/editline]
iPhone, find me some good porn. Let's see here. I have the Droid 3... Dual core 1ghz processor? Already got that. 8mp camera? Got that 1080p video? Got that too I've also got 16gb of internal storage, and guess what? It only cost me $100. Oh and I have a physical keyboard. I'm glad I didn't wait for this to come out.
That was never my point. Yes I understand that you can get a cheaper and "better" android phone but for the people who have a 3GS or older and are dead set on a iPhone the 4S is worth it.
Being deadset on an iPhone is simply retarded. Why would you dedicate yourself to one manufacturer like its a religion or a spouse?
Apple will begin to fall back in the smartphone market, but they are still first in the tablet market. It seems to me they are great for inventing new electronic markets, but they aren't good at keeping them updated fast enough.
You do a bit of research instead of buying a phone which is more expensive and not as good as the current top phones on the market simply because it is made by Apple.
I see a lot of Android/PC user who bases their entire argument for/against something on the specs alone, and deduce that the 'low specs' of the iPhone 3GS means that it's 'not as good' as it's rivals. A lot of people disregard this simple fact and assume that OS's are equally fast and that only system specs dictate how fast stuff runs which is very much not the case.
How do I know that what I buy won't be obsoleted by something better in 1-2 months? History shows us that this is precisely what's going to happen.
iPhones aren't immune to being obsolete, All of the older generations are obsolete now that phones like the SGS2 are in the market and that includes the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S isn't even pushing the boundries its just catching up. If you bought a SGS2 instead of an iPhone 4S they would both become obsolete at the same time when the next big phone comes along.
Great. I bet you get about 10% of the performance as well.
Umm no, I am an Android developer and although it isn't optimal for every device, OMAP works amazingly on Android now and is definitely comparable to the 4S
HD experience on a phone = No FLAC on a phone = No Point redundant.
I know not HD but damn videos take up allot.
But you're limited. Kinda like China. It's fast, it has a lot of optimized working force, but you aren't free to do what you want and you get censored and not as many features.
That's what Jailbreaking is for. Easy to do, and unlocks the iPhone's true capabilities.
I see a lot of Android/PC user who bases their entire argument for/against something on the specs alone, and deduce that the 'low specs' of the iPhone 3GS means that it's 'not as good' as it's rivals. Also because it works like a dream.
So you dream of losing signal when you hold the phone with your left hand? I've used iPhones and Android phones, you are greatly exaggerating the advantage they get from running with specific hardware. You don't seem to understand something very basic. I have had my android phone for over a year, yes there are now phones on the market better than it, but I don't just get it replaced because I can. The exact same principle applies to Apple, just because there isn't a better iPhone doesn't mean that there aren't better smart phones you could upgrade to a month after buying your iPhone.
So that I don't have to buy a new one every few months. Also because it works like a dream.
That argument it self is stupid. Considering that everytime Apple releases an update, they make the last model obsolete and doesn't allow them to get updated. Samsung, HTC updates their high end phones every year, just like Apple. You are thinking of the lower-end models of smartphones, which everbody but apple produces so that more people can get cheaper smartphones.
~I wish my android phone had google voice search so i could make a tit of myself by telling my phone to find things for me. Oh wait it does, and i never use it because i dont like making a tit of myself. I wish i had an iphone 4s so i could have specs lower than a phone thats been out for months now. People who INSTA UPGRADE to a 4s, heres a full list of features youre actually going to notice about your new phone: ITS WHITE.
Being deadset on an iPhone is simply retarded. Why would you dedicate yourself to one manufacturer like its a religion or a spouse?
Uh because that's how we function as humans? Its like Coke and Pepsi, some people will only like Coke and only ever buy Coke, some people like Samsung and will only even buy Samsung products. We do this because we know that we can go back time and the Product will still taste the same or play the same or in some way retain key elements from the older version. We as you said "dedicate ourselves to one manufacturer like its a religion" because in the end its not whats inside we are buying that counts but what it projects to other people. Just look at the car industry, I could get a Lexus that will never break down or I could get a Mercedes that will break down. However, Lexus are not really all that "cool" but pull up in your Mercedes and that projects a completely different message. The overall point is humans like shiny things and we will always like shiny things because they are shiny. The every day consumer could care less if the iPhone is point .2 GHz slower then a SGII. What they just care about is if when they pull it out people will say "hey that is a cool iPhone" and that is a somewhat sad truth.
That's what Jailbreaking is for. Easy to do, and unlocks the iPhone's true capabilities.
uhh And by simply enabling a option readily available in many newer android phones (except one's from AT&T) I've done what pretty much most iPhone users jailbreak their phone for. And then there's rooting, if you wanna tinker with really advanced options.
Dunno if its been posted, in Europe you will be able to buy an adapter to make the iPhone conform with the EU directive to try and reduce waste by standardizing mobile charging devices. http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2011/10/if-youre-european-apple-now-lets-you-charge-your-iphone-via-micro-usb/

Aha I feel so bad for my friend who skipped the iPhone 4 to get this one

Just because something is spread out across a lot of different hardware doesnt mean its slow Take linux. Thats been ported to absolutely everything (hey, even android is pretty much linux). A lot of people would also consider it a faster and more stable alternative to windows as well. See? Do you understand what hardware abstraction routines are? It doesnt go "Herpaderp, im running on this other processor therefore sleep(1000)". Most likely, the phone developers modify the kernel somewhat so that it will run on their device (in the fashion they want), do the necessary driver m'larky (Drivers, not "hardware abstraction routines", see? No? Shame), and then hey it works. At no point does the diversity of products affect the speed or the stability of the operating system [editline]4th October 2011[/editline]
Uh because that's how we function as humans? Bang Olufsen knows that dropping big money design pays off in the end it does. In 06/07 they took in 524 million DKK or 93.213312 million U.S. dollars for what amounts to selling re-skined Philips TVs.
I have the generation of ipod touch before the camera because who gives a shit about getting a new one.
