It makes 100% sense. They made this law in Alberta that you cannot sell Tobacco in the same common building area as a pharmacy. Don't know why more provinces/states/countries do this.
exactly this
their PR department is saying that it's for the "greater good" but businesses as large as CVS do not give one single fuck about the health of their customers
they're in it to make money
some accountant somewhere came to the conclusion that their medical side could make more money than selling tobacco products
Unfortunately this is usually the case in pharmacies or anything in the medical field. Medicines/Health promotion=Money opportunity

If they weren't doing it for money they wouldn't be a fucking business.
Astounding, what about the internet? I've also heard that oxygen in large quantities is also bad for you.
You just had to be "That guy" , didn't you?
oh man, 4 months without a cigarette, and the urges are stronger than ever. every time i read anything about cigarettes, i just want to light one up, but i'm very much afraid of what consequences will proceed the tube of toasty leaves. it's taken three months for my sinuses to feel kind of normal, but i feel years will pass before i can go a day without the thought of what it would feel like to have toxic fumes flood my lungs. quitting sucks, but so does a cancer diagnosis at an age when someone looks to you for support. it's always easier to put yourself in the shoes of one who needs a cigarette to feel normal, than a person who might lose it all. i'm not encouraging any smokers to quit. in fact, if you are a smoker and love to smoke, keep smoking; it's your life, i don't want you to miss out on any of the privileges. on the other hand, if you are constantly telling yourself that you hate smoking, and will quit someday, then i encourage you to get it out of the way asap. the longer you wait, the uglier it gets, and the more cigarettes become a personification than a simple luxury.
gas stations have em cheaper anyway
Fuck the CVS here is the only place that sells Parliament 100's in a box.. Oh well, I need to quit anyways.
While I am a smoker, I like the idea of business making ethical decisions like this, even at the cost of their profit and my convenience.
I'd rather ask why a pharmacy sold cigarettes in the first place.

CVS is one of those convenience/Drug stores, like Walgreens. They have a little bit of everything (Shoestrings, food, makeup, greeting cards), but they are centered around the pharmacy.

That would work if I had a clue about what that is.
But that explains it, thanks.
They should replace them with Electronic Cigarettes that aren't really even bad for you.
They would keep the income from normal cigarettes, and they can market it to make it look like they are trying to help smokers stop if they want to.

they already sell various other nicotine delivery methods for people wishing to quit.
Well I quit cigarettes anyways. It'll be two months in three days.
Actually, this isn't the first time CVS has done this, they did it a few years ago in an attempt to stop people from buying them. However, there wasn't any major difference made as people just went somewhere else to buy their cigs.
If that's the case then good riddance. Those damn cigarettes barely pushed my mom to the brink of her death. My family is very lucky that she went through rehab before it was too late.
Could've.. y'know.. put those $2 billion into a better solution, like handing out free nicotine gum for an ad campaign to help stop smokers.
Telling smokers the risks of smoking and trying to get them to stop rarely works, it has to be a decision of the smoker and solely the smoker to quit.
I smoke a pipe, so I guess I don't have much room to talk really, but honestly I'm all for them not selling it, cigarettes smell like shit and are laced with so many chemicals it's disgusting.
For those that are curious, aromatic tobacco, I don't inhale into my lungs, it's like smoking a cigar, except you're not inhaling burning wrapping, so it's more pleasant.
Ive never heard of CSV, but too bad I guess. One less place to get your Sigs at. Then again ive never heard of a pharmacie selling tabacco here in The Netherlands.

Does anyone actually buy individual shoestrings for any reason other than shooting up heroin?
It's not a pharmacy, it's a drug store. Drug store is an American English term for a general store that has a pharmacy in the back.

The cat just destroyed the laces in my wife's 22 eye boots, so we are in the market for shoestrings.

Uh, what America do you come from? The 1950's?
The only places that should sell tobacco are tobacco shops, gas stations and grocery stores and maybe bars or whatever
Uh, what America do you come from? The 1950's?
Nothing like that, I just remember a time before Wal Mart.
Nothing like that, I just remember a time before Wal Mart.
Well the first Walmart was founded in 1962, so it looks like is was pretty close to the mark.

Wal Mart was a local thing until the mid '80s so no you kinda missed the mark
Isn't everything in CVS more expensive anyway? I feel like people would go elsewhere for this cigs anyway.
They'll have fun losing a lot of money. They'll probably just start selling those e-cigs or whatever. They're still a business, and a bigger one at that.
I hope they don't grow to regret this decision, although they still sell liquor. I like CVS, I hope they don't end up losing too much revenue to stay in business. I know a lot of people who buy their cigarettes there.
