Jeffrey Bourgeois, 6, Killed Helping Dad With Wood Chipper
I love how a kid dies in a horrible accident and people just JUMP at the chance to start berating the father for it. It's not like he was going "Okay Jeffrey, that's a woodchipper, you put wood in it, have fun!" and then left him alone. Six-year-olds are quick and impulsive and have a tendency to push their luck. The kid probably saw a branch on the ground while working on something else, saw the woodchipper and thought "I'm gonna go help my dad!"
Good god, I know it's natural to try to find someone to pin the blame on, but you can't always control a six-year old. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to just dump their kids with someone who can watch over them while they work.
You miss the point, it's not about casting blame, it's about this being completely preventable.
If you are going to be operating a wood chipper, a six year old has no reason to be there, even if you tell him to stay away from the wood chipper. If dad wants to train his kids in the family business, that's fine. But wait till they are at least old enough to understand the safety procedures AND follow instructions. Six year olds are far too impulsive to qualify. This dad gambled with his kid's life, and the kid lost.
Jesus christ this is fucking horrible. I hope for the kid's sake that the poor guy died quickly. I cannot imagine how painful it would be to be chopped up by a fucking wood chipper.

OH MY FUCKING GOD
OH MY FUCKING GOD
I'm sorry but what the hell were you expecting from "got sucked into a jet engine and his remains were splattered everywhere"
OH MY FUCKING GOD
What did you expect?
That's one hell of a paintjob... The plane. I got pretty damn sick from that...
I hate wood chippers, I have used them a few times and they scare the shit out of me. You sit there the whole time thinking about what could happen and how to avoid it. The sound they make is straight from hell, even people that use them every day say they are a machine made in hell.
I almost got caught in one once when I was feeding a branch in, we always cut every branch so there is no risk of it catching your clothes and such. One little branch is all it took to grab my glove but luckily most wood chippers have that bar surrounding the feed tray that reverses or stops the rollers. I was all over that thing within the second the branch grabbed me, it was a horrible feeling.
That said no one under 18 should be ANYWHERE near these machines. I feel so bad for the father and the family, it just isn't fair...
The worst part of this is getting shredded would possibly seem to last ages longer than it actually is...

Depends on which end is sucked in. If he went in head first he'd probably die almost instantly but feet first? Holy fuck.

Yeah if he went in head first (which I hope he did, it would be a a lot quicker even though it sounds horrible) the rollers that feed the chipping blades would have killed him before he even got a chance to touch the chipping blades.
I would imagine he went in head first, only reason people get stuck in those feet first is when they try to kick a branch in and it grabs their leg. But a 6 year old would not be big enough to do that.
Why do I even go to tthe news sectiion anymore? This is so sad.

You actually go pretty quickly. You're organic, if you got put into it, you'd go up like a log.
I guess you could say he was a chip off the block.
Well...
Chip Happens.

I know what that kid's last moments were like because I've been pulled into the feed chute to a wood chipper. A gnarly maple branch caught my belt and yanked me in with it and I managed to lock my arms around the outside of the chute. My sunglasses flew off and I watched them fucking disintegrate about three or four inches from my face.
A terrible way to go, considering it would have taken the chipper at least a few seconds to mow through him. It's a shitty thing to hope for, but I just hope he went in head-first.
Yeah if he went in head first (which I hope he did, it would be a a lot quicker even though it sounds horrible) the rollers that feed the chipping blades would have killed him before he even got a chance to touch the chipping blades.
Not all of them have rollers. A good deal of them feed through the motion of the blades, kind of like a cross-cut saw. If left alone, it'll creep across the wood very slowly.

Wow, I know I'd sure need a change of pants with I was inches away from being turned into red paste.

From suffering a busted leg waiting for the ambulance to arrive, they seemed to take longer getting there than what I've been told. I'm guessing when watching my legs get shredded as my head is pulled towards the blades, time would seem to slow down as I feel every cut in the leg. I'm sure it would suck massive balls.

Umm. I honestly don't think time would literally slow down like the matrix if you were getting chopped from the legs up, and chances are you would lose consciousness before it would reach your head.
Wow, I know I'd sure need a change of pants with I was inches away from being turned into red paste.
I just had a smoke and went back to work. I was extra careful after that, essentially pulling the branches towards me as I stood to the side and behind the feed area. I figured I'd need to be pulled forward, over and in, rather than just in.
If you are going to work with dangerous machinery, and a wood chipper is as dangerous as it gets, why would you take your kids? Why is a 6 year old even in the vicinity?
What's next, some crocodile keeper taking his kid into the crocodile pen? No one could be that stupid.
Yeah, but in this case I know for a fact it did. Those machines don't ingest wood as fast as the roller fed ones and I have a feeling the father might have had a chance to help him if it was. A lot of people prefer the roller fed machines though, they do work better in my opinion.

The kid was probably just playing in the garden or whatever while his Dad was working. It might be preventable in hindsight but this is the sort of shit no one expects to happen to them.

Well of course to not that degree, I'm just saying being much more aware of your pain would suck.

Yeah it is kind of like that moment when you are falling of your bicycle and the fall seems to take longer than it does because your body goes into high adrenaline mode and your mind is going 5 times faster than it was. That is what gives us the time to think "this is gonna suck."
At first I thought the kid killed his dad on accident, regardless, this is just as bad.
omg fuck you for ruining my day!
God damn it poor kid! And the father for seeing this :(

Intestines, or maybe fat.
Intestines, or maybe fat.
It's subcutaneous tissue, which is basically fat.
Nothing tears families apart like wood chippers.
