I had "dumbphones" up until February, bought a Galaxy S2, it's pretty cool
I'm still using this motherfucker. Not because i have to, because i want to.
I never had a cellphone and I'm doing 100% fine at 20 years old.
I can live without a smartphone. But I NEED my disco.
gawker, seriously I'm still rocking a dumbphone (a very dumb one, btw).
Nokia N70, doing just fine here My SIM card even expired from complete lack of usage.
You should consider breaking some of your dependencies on a small and fragile device. Seriously. If anyone has become so dependent on their phone that it would ruin them if they lost it then they have some serious rethinking to do.
Or run a business.
I sort of can and sort of can't. My Droid 3 doubles as my speedometer, without it I have to guess at how fast I'm going. :v: Aside from that I don't really need it.
Holy shit. This should be on CNN or something.
Once more facepunch thinks it's an incredible feat to not own a smartphone :v: I have a smartphone, I could live without the smart part but I use the "phone" part (texts calls) multiple times every day I dunno, the apps are nice and it's nice to be able to snap pictures of things as I go along, but I could live with an old dumbphone still
I have never had, needed, nor wanted a smartphone. I can't stand touch screens and why would I give up this baby? The thing doubles as a self defence weapon.

I just use mine for texting, calling, and the occasional porn surfing when I need a moment alone in the bathroom of my home.
Weapon, tank armour, brick, telephone, is there anything it can't do.
Take a Photo
I don't have a smart phone. Don't see the appeal. My phone calls people. It texts people. It's a phone. If I wanted a pocket computer, I'd invest in one, but I have no need or use for a smart phone.
A smart phone is an asset though. My Blackberry Bold does all the shit I need of it and more, keeps me in touch with four different emails, has GPS, translators, a dictionary, weather, social networking and a bunch of other shit that's useful at times. What's wrong with becoming dependent on something that is all wrapped up in one for you? It really isn't that big of a deal.
Actually I lied, I use it as a MP3 player for long road trips.
I can live without my phone, just it would be an very huge inconvenience.

I went without a smart phone for around a year. Perfectly fine. I'm almost certain I could go without a phone too, and I might have to after I graduate high school. But having a smart phone as a GPS has been very useful for me.

There's a point where you stop controlling it and it stats controlling you. Not in a cheesy sci-fi 'robots-take-over-the-world' way, but all the notifications, appointments and alerts start controlling how and when you act rather than helping you to manage your time. Self imposed servitude.
gizmodo is fucking terrible i am shocked that it did not include the phrase "With exception to the iphone, fuck smartphones"
Just because I can live without it doesn't mean I want to or would like to. I enjoy having something to do when I'm bored.
I have a phone because society thinks I need one so they can contact me whenever they want. Owning a phone for me is like own a pet because your parents want it and you hate the thing. I can easily last a month without getting called or calling but I have to check if the damn battery is still full every two days. When people do call it could have been shit that they could just have emailed to me (which is a lot faster as I don't have to walk outside the room every time). The only good thing is that the Game Boy Advance emulator is really decent on it.
A month without getting called or calling? Plus, what's wrong with a pet? I love my pets
I don't really use my phone, most of times, it's turned off, somewhere on my table.

It's a multitool for tool-seekers, and that's what makes it so valuable to have with you. It's something for everything that comes up.
as someone who has gone through two smartphones they're really overrated gaming on phones sucks for 80% of the games that exist. typing is annoying and you have to rely on autocorrect. my 3G has always been unreliable. etc etc
Fuck phones, I still use semaphore towers.
Still got my flip phone. I bought it, no contract, just as smartphones were gaining great popularity. So far I've replaced the battery for $5 and I'm using it until it self destructs.
Pointless thread of the week If you have no need for the extra oomph of a smartphone don't get one, simple.
