"Our files got corrupted and North Korea isn't letting us back in, so we're using some of our connections to get help us sneak back in and reshoot it all while the guards are asleep."
Something's very wrong here. Why would the leader of a Stalinist totalitarian hellhole fervently opposed to the United States put out a bunch of bullshit about how america is the "den of wickedness" and the most vile country ever, then secretly go and tell an american "Hai lets been friends i no want war". Something smells like a power struggle.
almost like he's got a cult of personality (which half of facepunch is in)
I wonder if Kim Jong-un himself even knows what's it like in the outside world.
I wonder if Kim Jong-un himself even knows what's it like in the outside world.
He was educated in the west.
I think Kim Jong-Un is very misunderstood.
He was educated in the west.
damn...i wonder how that impacted his worldview(if at all). i really want to know what goes on in the mind of un, il, and sung. they are such cults of personality and responsible for so much death and suffering. i wonder how these guys see the world around them.
Yeah I'm willing to bet Kim Il-sung and maybe Jong-il were aware of what was going on but, I'm not so sure about Jong-un.
Maybe he really doesn't know.
Dennis Rodman is one ugly motherfucker..
Like I have said in threads past. I think all the shit that goes on in NK is hidden from Kim. He proabaly really does think everyone loves him. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing was happening to his father
How many Potemkin villages can the officials build for him?

lol he knows, its just that he and his dad are big fans of basketball, jong-un is an asshole just like his dad
I'm not really sure how far you can defend someone who has had people executed via mortar shell.

He lived in Switzerland for almost a decade. I think he would at least be exposed to western reports about North Korea.
He can't call Obama because he's only 28 years old?
Did he also compare what Clinton did to what Kim did?
He seems like an idiot.

That and he probably got his love of basketball from there.

king jong un #1
i think most of you are missing the most important part here
he went over with vice media, the same people who brought you this, probably the best NK documentary ever

That is one cute tea girl.
That and he probably got his love of basketball from there.
he got his love for basketball from his batshit crazy dad
jong-il once requested michael jordan to come over to NK like rodman then, but jordan probably most likely said 'haha fuck that'
The North Koreans probably thought all black people are like him. With tattoos, piercings, and a ungodly way of speaking.
He's wearing a Dollar-bill Sports Coat, three facial piercings, shades inside, and a baseball hat during an official interview. Yeah... International Relations scholar, right there.
Jesus fucking christ, this is all so surreal.
Dennis Rodman just did made more progress than pretty much any nation.
Cut the guy some slack, even if he is a crazy motherfucker.
He's a crazy motherfucker trying to do diplomacy with one of the worlds most secluded countries.
Edit:
AND he has gotten further than any other country in terms of relations. He has met and is friends with Glorious Leader for Christ' sakes.

This whole thing is just really strange. I like it though.
This whole thing is just really strange. I like it though.
It really is.
But it's also a starting point.
Not going to condemn him here. He's on a dodgy spot, he gets to become friend with one of the most secluded country leader of the world. May he be honest about him liking Kim Jong Un or not, that'll bring good for everyone. We'll get to know more about the country thru VICE and his interviews, and no matter how crazy that sounds, he might actually help the western world and NK understand each others.
I doubt Kim Jong Un had much occasions since he took over to actually befriend with a guy from our side of the planet, I'm anxious to see what that'll bring in the long term.

I agree, it's just kinda weird watching this actually happen and thinking about it. A basketball player is our diplomat to the secluded little kingdom.
Honestly, I don't think we can blame NK's current state on Jong-Un, we know nothing about the guy or his motives. The country is controlled top-to-bottom by the military, even if he wanted to change anything, he really can't without risking a coup, or assassination and replacement by one of the other Kims. I don't think he's anything more than a powerless figurehead, a new guy for the personality cult to build on.
Jong-Un is probably not even the one in charge. Like someone said in a different thread, he's probably just a figurehead, publically being the face of the regime while the higher ups in the military run everything themselves.
"A great guy who puts 200,000 people in prison camps?"
"Well you know guess what, we do the same thing here."
"We have prison camps here in the United States?"
No, in Cuba.
If you ever told me that Dennis Rodman of all people would be in this scenario only a few weeks ago, I would refuse to believe it.

He's believed to have spent a lot of his youth in Switzerland as well as attending school there, regardless of how heavy the bullshit he's being fed by the people behind the show is, I don't think you can reasonably walk away from a youth like that and not have it have an effect on how you think and operate.
I think Rodman should have just said bluntly that he doesn't have any interest in the politics of the NK regime, and just said that he wasn't qualified to answer the questions the interviewer was giving him or that he just didn't ask those questions of Kim and isn't in the position to answer for him either. Just say he'd only answer questions relating to what Kim was like as a person like he was doing. Without explicitly stating that it just seemed like he was dodging questions.
