No really, I don't know. Some people are just angsty and see protests and go, "well, shit, look at these irate people trying to accomplish something. they deserve getting brutalized by cops."
In response to some of the people saying that the people who rated their comments "conservative", I can tell you the reasons why I went through and rated stuff down. I dont speak for others especially( hoodo and sobotnik they seem to be trolling hard) but one comment I saw where "The marine did his job" by getting shot in the head by a rubber bulllet. So we have to exploit others just to get a point across? The last thing the movement needs is an escalation of violence. In my opinion the Oakland police acted with more force than needed. Tear gas, maybe. Rubber bullets, hell no. Oakland has a high violent crime rate so I could see why they would feel the need to suit up (maybe they felt this would be like the incident in Britian earlier, protests then bad eggs incite a riot). Still doesnt excuse the force they used.
Someone posted earlier that violence didnt end the Raj and Apratheid. Well violence didnt win the civil rights movement points either. I still think the best thing for Occupy is to expand but remain peaceful.

There has also been a constant debate about the issue of private property rights against the rights of the occupiers.
Why don't the police just line up with guns when the crowd is rowdy, level them all, then when the crowd refuses to leave they fire several volleys of blanks.
The noise, smoke and such should be enough to keep the crowd in order and make some of them flee.

It may be privately owned property open to the public. It's kind of like the Light Rail in Denver; it's open to public use but still owned by RTD which is why they can kick you off for any reason (within limits).

Believe it or not, blanks can still be lethal if fired at close ranges. Besides, "hey let's pretend to shoot all of these protesters" sounds like an extremely bad idea.

Probably just a disgruntled higher-up who's going to lose his job. And in a place like oakland in might just break out into riots.
