• Fitbit is close to buying Pebble (and possibly killing the brand)
I'm rocking the Pebble Time Steel -- I love going nearly two weeks without charging my watch. No other smart watch comes close for the price; and none can even touch the battery life of this thing. It confuses me why nobody else uses e-ink. Everybody seems obsessed with having a tiny useless touchscreen on your watch. I don't understand it. I'm pretty bummed at this acquisition. I backed the Pebble 2, and am now waiting on a refund...
As evidenced by Pebble going under (at least partially, there were other organizational issues too), the market wants those watches with fancy touchscreens and bright colorful displays. Because they look nicer, have more features and are more marketable. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't really care for the simplicity of the Pebble, because they don't have all the bells and whistles even if those come at the cost of battery life and price. I may want to correct you that it isn't e-ink though, its a memory LCD. (E-ink requires the entire screen to clear every so often). Still neat, since it doesn't need to constantly refresh, only when updating content which is how it can keep the battery usage low while the screen is always on.

It has a reflective LCD display, and as such when it's in ambient mode it only powers the display during updates. All other times any light from the display is simply a reflection. If you pick a really simple watchface and disable the wake on lift feature that watch should last for the better part of a week as a simple display/notification shower.
