MGSV: The Phantom Pain is being playtested; expect release date soon(?)

Sweet, just finished MGS3 for the first time today and started peace walker. TTP is gonna be smoking good.
Actually you can't really say "TPP is just GZ with a lot more to work with"
It's pretty clear now that, to put it simply, they literally tore what we know as GZ out of The Phantom Pain itself and they left some fragments behind of extended systems that we know are in TPP yet seem to be completely absent or replaced by some placeholder event in Ground Zeroes.
Ground Zeroes is a really stripped down version of TPP.
They could change or cut out a bunch of stuff they haven't shown and we wouldn't have a clue. I'm talking game mechanics.
[editline]10th January 2015[/editline]
Actually I don't even think "stripped down" describes GZ right.
More like incomplete
A lot of important stuff from the game (boxes) is missing from GZ, so the code for GZ is probably heavily based in a earlier version of tpp.
It has elements of sandbox gameplay but without an actual sandbox. There's so much potential to mess around and get creative, but the level design is really restrictive in terms of what you can actually do.
I've often wondered if MGS4 was a much different game earlier in its development cycle than the end product we got which while quite polished felt rushed.
Certainly some of the early trailers evidenced this, there were assets in those trailers that ended up getting cut from the final game, and iirc snake even had a slightly different model.
It might explain why they went to the trouble of adding in all these new mechanics and much improved function without actually having much to use it on.
I really want to get into the MGS series but it's kinda hard for me to be able to get all games, as well as the consoles. Pretty unfortunate because MGSV looks great.
You can emulate 1-3 and most spinoffs.

You're suppose to play PW after MGS4. You are playing them in release order right?

If you have a PS3 you can get the Legacy collection which has every important Metal Gear game other then Revengeance

It's a shame the legacy collection is going for like $70 on Amazon now. It'd be cheaper just to buy MGS1 off of the PSN store, buy the MGS HD collection, and then buy MGS4.

I think on a PS3 you can play all of the games because of the HD collection.

Legacy Collection includes a hardcover artbook, there's ones without it for $40

I remember Kojima saying in an interview that the boxes didn't really fit with what was going on in Ground Zeroes, so that's why they weren't included.

well you can play mg, mg2, mgs, mgs2, mgs3, pw, gz and mgsv on pc
it's p much just one game missing

i don't think they were originally going to be included in phantom pain either but it seems kojima was dissuaded. i kind of get the feeling the whole development for him has been like "so then big boss kills all the imprisoned child soldiers and realizes the demonic creature he's become" and then some guy shows up with a big grin on his face and concept art of a chicken hat that helps you blend in on farms and kojima just rolls with it

The guy talking would be Shinkawa, and then Kojima himself showing up with a crude drawing of a chicken hat and forcing Shinkawa to make a final design and then implement it.

MGS3 on pc since when?
I hope you don't mean an emulator either because they all run MGS3 like shit, either too slow or severely bugged, or both.

Depends on your computer
Depends on your computer
Missing textures, models and broken animations does not depend on your computer, it depends on the emulation.
I'm quite happy for you to prove me wrong, but not a single person has managed to run MGS3 perfectly in an emulation thus far to my knowledge. Even the best attempts have pieces of the game broken.
I've been playing mgs3 in pcsx2 with only minor problems. No missing textures, no broken animations, just a little slowdown once in a while and some visual effects not working properly. Both are problems that can entirely be fixed with a better computer, with a better processor, it could get through the game logic faster and be able to run software rendering which would fix the rendering issues.
Nice try but I only let Cipher play me like a damn fiddle.
I think he meant 4, which was mostly cutscenes
nice joke, but I'm serious.
Imo its a small but nice evolution from MGS3. As if they smoothed out the corners, and made it ergonomic. A little bit cleaner and with more options. Crouch walking for example, my god...
MGS4 had probably the worst gameplay out of all of the core games.
Fuck no.
What does suck is, as said, level design and how small the actual "gaming" part of the game is. It needed MUCH more of MGS3, which imo wasn't perfect either. Needed more jungle to go through imo, and then if it had MGS4's gameplay? Then it would be perfect.
Hence why I think TPP might be exactly that.
Honestly, even if you skip the cutscenes, only the first two chapters are all that great. The second one ends with a scripted escape sequence, the third involves tailing a rebel, another scripted chase sequence, and a not-very-good boss fight. Chapter four was alright, and the boss fight was arguably great, but the enemies aren't everyone's favorites. And chapter five is one small area to sneak through, another gimmicky boss fight, and then the microwave hall and the best boss fight ever.
It's all over the damn place.
Fuck chapter 3 to hell and back.
Worst part in MGS history, period.
Extremely boring to walk around in the fucking streets tailing the guy, the boss fight is by far the worst ever, the escape sequence is annoying and boring... It's all redeemed in chapter 4, but the enemies are incredibly lackluster.
I saw "Phantom Pain" and the letters M, S and G used in close proximity and thought this was a game set in the universe of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
I was disappointed

I'd be disappointed if there was.
SEED sucks ass.
I kinda liked how vague they were with tutorials in GZ. There was general stuff told to you like using your binoculars to tag enemies, but other little details like tapping Y to lockpick faster was fun to discover on your own.
he kept us waiting

but not for long.
Playtesting isn't any indication of game's progress. Games are playtested since the first working prototypes. Not that I'm saying that Phantom Pain isn't nearing it's content lock.
If it's true the PC version comes later, gonna have to stay off of /v/ for awhile
I was pretty disappointed at how incomplete a lot of the mechanics in gz were, like you can't even shut doors or knock on walls for christs sake.
That aside I still enjoyed gz heavily and I'm sure tpp will be ten times the game gz was.
I'd be disappointed if there was.

No I think SEED deserves a lot more credit. I've heard people bash seed and then turn around and praise Gundam F91 (which arguably isn't bad but I think SEED definitely stands up better than F91) I agree that SEED Destiny sucks though.

Actually, Konami measured this. It's about 200 times larger. :v:
(I know they were referring to the map, but still... might aswell be referencing the entire game)

I'm pretty sure Kojami said that TPP will have more than one map, and that one map is already 100 times larger than GZ or something.

GZ is the bottom left red section, in comparison to the background, which is the Afghanistan map.
And yeah, Afghanistan, Africa, [sp]possibly Cyprus, and other locations[/sp]
-snip, late-
