No no no no! They have the mood completely wrong, the concept art reeks of generic sci-fi city and that's not where the original game was set, I don't have high hopes for this.
imagine being this guy right now Mirrors Edge looked pretty nice, however DICE were playing around with it quite a bit, it didn't have an incredible amount of detail in the world. But it did look really damn nice. Who's to say they didn't have something more complex intended for the designs originally? It's quite an old game now, technology has progressed and there is a decent chance they are now realising what they actually wanted. This happens all the time. It's still incredibly early days for us anyway. Later announcements are going to be much more important and interesting.

He looks like a Dr Who filler villain

wow that face at the top of the website, honestly don't know if that's a photo or not
If it comes out, and it's a DLC cow with Sim City DRM and bugs, we're going to be posting that smug motherfucker's face asking how we didn't see it coming. Maybe it'll become the new symbol for when we think a game is gonna be shit.
I dunno if I like the future aesthetic they're going for, I kind of liked how Mirror's Edge was future, but NEAR future. Like, a modern dystopia.

Dystopias are typically more Bioshock and City 17 like. I just want to see more of the city in general tbh. I felt kind of distant from its vitality in the first game. Hopefully they mix in more elements of being on the ground/in buildings kind of like AC does?

You're actually on the streets themselves maybe two or three times in the entirety of the game, but I didn't feel that was a bad thing. I mean, Faith even says in the opening that the city feels dead after the crackdowns. Also it doesn't really fit the traditional meaning of dystopia, but they monitor all electronic communications at all times, carry out political assassinations on citizens, have a privatized police force with military-grade kit that shoots on sight, it's a pretty shitty place.

Now it looks like you'll be fighting literal Cyber-Police and Drone-Helicopters instead. I'm not sure if I appreciate the change, I loved the modern approach compared to the sci-fi approach.
It really depends on their world building ability. If they can sell this new interpretation as a believable place, then it will be better. I feel like the modern setting in ME1 felt good because they didn't have to explain much about it. You can make safe assumptions about it since it's pretty much the world you're living in. To make the more overt scifi setting work, they have to fill in thost assumptions with concrete facts about the world. Idk if they can do it, but I know it can be done. Say what you will about Remember Me, they absolutely nailed that aspect.
can people not be so fucking nebulous when they say this shit? Gross. This game sounds awful. Action oriented, re-booted, open world EA/DICE game. Avoid this shit at all cost.
Gross. This game sounds awful. Action oriented, re-booted, open world EA/DICE game. Avoid this shit at all cost.
Maybe that determination can be made when we at least see how the game runs in motion
Maybe that determination can be made when we at least see how the game runs in motion
It could, but it can also be predicted looking at previous trends of both EA and DICE.
It could, but it can also be predicted looking at previous trends of both EA and DICE.
haha yeah multiplayer netcode issues are going to absolutely destroy my experience in a clientside ran single player game, especially when friendly players are replicated to server from their own clientside calculating machines. My friends are going to headshot me from around corners SO MUCH in a non-competitive co-op setting
Yeah, you are implying DICE's only fault is that you get disconnected from their games. No, yes it's just network troubles with DICE. [editline]10th June 2015[/editline] Oh and EA? Nah, they won't do anything to this game. Certainly not. The only troubles this game face are network issues, so it seems.
Gross. This game sounds awful. Action oriented, re-booted, open world EA/DICE game. Avoid this shit at all cost.
I don't know if it sounds terrible but I'm not a fan of open world games. They get repetitive and boring to me quickly; I like linear games with good story, but with something that makes it interesting, such as the gravity gun and physics puzzles in HL2, the portal gun in portal, parkour in Mirrors edge, etc.
I still don't understand why the first game was as popular as it was. Cheers if you enjoyed it, but it failed to impress me. It had a neat art direction and some cool gameplay mechanics, but they weren't as well implemented as they could have been. The bright monochromatic color schemes of each area , combined with the uncomfortable and blinding levels of bloom, often made judging depth and differentiating between structures difficult, especially if sprinting through the levels and having to make snap judgments. Your art style ought to never interfere with the core gameplay like that. The free running mechanics were innovative and fun, but the level design of many different areas throughout the game failed to capitalize on them. In a game about speed and verticality, the last thing you want is to throw the player in claustrophobic little passageways and force them to back track and wander around in search of the exit, which I had to do far too often in ME. So the game's major selling points fell short in my opinion. The writing, voice acting, and general story of the game being hot messes also REALLY didn't help. Mirror's Edge is an entertaining game to revisit every few years, especially since it's so short, but it'd never make my top 10 list, and I'm not especially chuffed at the idea of a sequel.

Well glad they changed the title because this is not a true sequel. Its probably infested with stupid dlc crap.

It works for games like Fallout/TES/GTA, made for an interesting experience in Zeno Clash 2, but it feels like a lot of the time developers just throw on open world like it automatically improves the experience. It can actually take away from immersion from my experience; Instead of your imagination just filling in the blanks for the rest of the city, you can see the rest of the city, and it's just as dead as the area you're in because this is a videogame. It might be cool if they have a GTA-like wanted system and the longer a chase goes on the more cops you attract, but I'm still not really excited about this reboot in general. Better to have low expectations and be surprised, I guess.
I don't get how so many people are drawing as many assumptions as they are from a minimal amount of released information. You don't judge a game based on 1 piece of concept art.

For example, there was a level when you're in a building with some scaffolding, and you have to climb up to finish the level, rather than running at top speed and dodging obstacles. In another level (near the end of the game) you're underground in a... sewer system? and it's tight and you need to do a lot of jumping and wall running and stuff. I thought that the levels where you're doing tight-quarters jumping and climbing were the best because they were the most challenging. The distinction between a speed game and a platformer is like the difference between mario and sonic. Sonic the hedgehog, IMO, is a terrible game. All of them. The first game gives you all these enemies and obstacles to move around and stuff, but they give you the ability to, at the outset, get running up to top speed, hit some sort of speed boost or jump, and then fly across half the map, skipping the entire level, only to land on some unseen obstacle and then die. Then, the next few levels will have you try to do this, but the obstacles will now end up killing you almost immediately, or fling you across the level. In some, they force you to slow down and wait for moving platforms, effectively ruining the point of the game. Mario, on the otherhand, is a better combination of this. The entire game of Super Mario Bros. 1-3 is designed to be able to speedrun it if you want. but, most people don't. Mario doesn't fly at inhuman speeds; he can run and if you can watch carefully you can jump at the right moment but that's the player's skill, not the characters trait. I think ME is more like Mario than like Sonic; speed is an element, jumping is an element, platforming is an element. This is why I think the "claustrophobic" parts of the game are good; it helps it avoid turning into a sonic and helps it stay as more like a mario. As for the art direction, I personally adore it. I can't find anything wrong with it and even in parts of the game where the lens flare or glow or HDR are blinding, I can't help but love the art no matter what it does to me.
