The bright monochromatic color schemes of each area , combined with the uncomfortable and blinding levels of bloom, often made judging depth and differentiating between structures difficult, especially if sprinting through the levels and having to make snap judgments. Your art style ought to never interfere with the core gameplay like that.
The free running mechanics were innovative and fun, but the level design of many different areas throughout the game failed to capitalize on them. In a game about speed and verticality, the last thing you want is to throw the player in claustrophobic little passageways and force them to back track and wander around in search of the exit, which I had to do far too often in ME.
Huh, I can't relate to this at all. The artstyle never gave me trouble with movement (runner vision helped a lot even), and I didn't get stuck searching much either.
Gross. This game sounds awful. Action oriented, re-booted, open world EA/DICE game. Avoid this shit at all cost.
go soak your fucking head, christ.
If you're gonna try and call me out for being a cunt about people bitching about the artists tweaking the MC's head to the dismay of some non-creative mother fuckers who don't know what Asians look like, don't go on to be an even bigger cunt telling people not to buy a game for reasons that are completely personal and specific to you.
Faith's tweaked face looks like it actually has some underlying structure to it. Her nose is wider, and there's room for a bridge, her buccinator area looks way more believable, even compared to the first MEC renders from two years ago, and her eyelids are no longer oddly caricatured compared to the rest of her face giving her that Chris Cunningham PS1 commercial look.

It wasn't advice for people, I am saying that those elements are something that I feel should be avoided. I'm not demanding anyone avoid the game cause anyone excited for this game I doubt will. And why the hell are you so mad about this stuff? Your language is crazy aggressive.
I get really fucking mad when non-creators with no technical or artistic vocab nebulously crit decisions made by people who know what the fuck they're doing and have had years of training and practice and get paid for it. It makes me more and more angry every time I see it. After the backlash about Fallout 4's "shit graphics" it doesn't take much to set me off about this shit.
No one wants to make a bad game. If the people on the development side of things were seriously just in it for the money, they wouldn't be game developers.

You are freaking the fuck out dude. I understand stuff can be annoying but you are looking ridiculous. Who cares if they don't use technical vocab, they don't like it! That's all that matters, they don't need to know ANYTHING other than what is presented and they can most assuredly then say "This looks bad".
I don't give a fuck how I look. I wasn't put on this earth to be pleasing to you. I care about this shit. It's literally all I do. I'm an animator. I'm a cartoonist. My entire life revolves around the creation of new realities and the abstraction of our own reality. Nothing pisses me off than to see it all underplayed by the exact people I'm doing this for. Then again, I should just do it for me shouldn't I? If only it were that simple.

I am sure they can recognize that it looks more anatomically correct, and respect how much craft went into if you spoke to them in a conversation instead of a reactionary forum post. But all this craft is moot to the original point they are making which is that they think it is worse than the original. Why get mad about someone's opinion like that?
[editline]10th June 2015[/editline]
I mean, it's obvious they're not setting out to pose valued criticism when they just vomit "looks bad..........." into the reply box and hit send. It's literally only a reaction, the same can be conveyed with a constricted face or some dumb animal sounding noise.
I'm not pissed that they don't like it. I'm pissed that they don't know why they don't like it. I'm pissed that people are out there are so unaware of themselves that they genuinely are stumped as to why they hold an opinion. In fact, that's the thing I hate most out of everything in the world.
I don't think "What happened to her face?" was literal, I'm pretty sure he could see exactly what happened to her face.
I dunno, it just seems to me that there haven't been many decent games released these days by anybody. Sure there's GTA 5 (which I have no personal interest in but everyone else says its good), but what else is there? Because it seems to me like everyone's just playing the games they got a few years ago because they're more interesting than "current" titles. And when I look myself, nothing looks good, at all.
We can count on Bethesda releasing something acceptable with Fallout 4, but outside of that I hope ME Catalyst breaks the pattern. I'm not looking for a blockbuster here, I just want a good game for once.

People are allowed to have negative opinions about creative work, yo. No matter what you do, there will be people who think your work is bad. If you have a conniption every time somebody expresses distaste for some creative work, you'll give yourself an ulcer. Calm down!
Oh and EA? Nah, they won't do anything to this game. Certainly not. The only troubles this game face are network issues, so it seems.
I don't get this. EA is the reason Mirror's Edge exists in the first place. If you liked the first game, why would you be overly worried about executive meddling in the sequel?
No hopes up for this one, the first game was a surprising success that really came out of nowhere and as far as I'm concerned it's impossible to tell whether or not they could even replicate it.
The fact they're distancing themselves from the first installment and Faith's new face aren't good signs, but I won't spit on it. I'll just ignore the game until a week or two after release when opinions have started to appear.

Because that is exactly what happened with many game under EA's ownership, with Dead Space springing to mind for a recent example.

This was EA in 2008 when they were specifically trying a handful of new IPs (Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, and one other game I think) and I think those games were critical successes but commercial failures for the most part; Mirror's Edge especially. Plus, EA has gone through like two different CEOs since then as well as the changes that came with post-2010 games. It's a vastly different company
I never really liked Mirror's Edge, I felt like it was a few tweaks away from me liking it.
I'll give this one a go, we'll see how it goes.

If you're only paying attention to Triple A games, you're no paying attention to games. It's like only seeing the Marvel movies and crying "Cinema is dead!!"
though to be fair, marvel/super hero movies are kinda ruining modern mainstream cinema
Still plenty of good movies though. But Marvel has definitely watered down film making in the US.
It could, but it can also be predicted looking at previous trends of both EA and DICE.
This is one of the biggest issue with the gaming market though - as has been very apparent throughout last year -, assuming things before a game is actually out, and that goes both ways (though hype and pre-order culture is more prevelant). Speculations and impressions are fine, but have some skepticism and maybe hold off on making judgemnet until you have actual gameplay footage and details to go on, or even better wait till the game is out or there are independent reviews/videos on it before being grossed out or amazed by mentions of concepts that could be good or could be bad.

That is not new, and being a skeptic with EA has not proven to be the wrong course of action. I get it that you'd like this game to be good, but when almost everything that EA touches is bullshit in one way or another how can you honestly criticize me for leaning towards pessimism with recent news and previous trends? I think I'm being quite realistic.

Well, I mean I'd like every game to be good but that just isn't happening. I'm just saying be cautiously skeptic, the way you expressed your pessimism sounded quite convinced to me.
Yeah probably, but I obviously don't know for certain. It could be good, hope it is. But I have so little belief in EA to make any games that don't first come off as a commercial product, and then later a game.
Their recent open-world game Dragon Age: Inquisition was pretty well recieved.
Most of their games are well received. There will always be a group of people to rate every EA game a 10/10 but I feel that's a very light-critique niche of games criticism. I wont'd discredit Inquisition for being a solid game, however. It just wasn't for me.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, wasn't for me either, but I recognize it was a decent game.

It's not like anybody pays attention to anything else, so I can't exactly look up non 3A games except by individual store pages.
But at the same time I'm also not even sure how much I want Audiosurf 2, despite it being on my wishlist since it was announced. And I don't have to tell you that's not a 3A game.
I think that some devs need to take a page out of valve.
Valve made Portal. Awesome, linear puzzle game with 2 hours of gameplay that left people wanting for more. Portal 2? Gave them more of what they had in the first game, and incorporated new puzzle elements into it (gels, co-op, gravity puzzles, etc.)
Instead of thinking "If we just remake portal 1 with more levels, we'll be copping out", they thought "portal one was good; let's add onto it and make it better, but retain what made portal, portal."
I think the devs or designers thought at the end of ME1 "We wanna make ME2. Unfortunately, people will crucify us for redoing the same thing twice, but with different levels. We want to make it entirely different"
So they throw in things like a new art direction, open world, new enemies (which may not work with the game mechanic like how the cops in the first game did). I think that when they made ME, they did something really really good and new and interesting, and now they want to use the same IP, change it completely, make it new and interesting, but still capture the lighting they had with the first game. This, I think, is impossible, if you don't take the Portal 2 approach.

Uhh, this is 100% inaccurate. Do you really not know a single person or place where you can find out about indie games? I don't mean to be exclusionary, but if you're not looking you're obviously not interested or not trying at least. Go to the front page of Steam, literally dozens of indie games right there. Go to something as commercial gaming news as IGN and even they report on indie games.

I don't see a problem. They wanted to make a new ME but didn't want to make more of same, but instead wanted to try something different. People complain devs make same games, people complain devs try something different. They can't win. Who cares if it's more of same or different, as long as it's good it shouldn't matter.

Executive meddling was the reason the terrible gun-play was added, so there's that at least.
