Alcohol consumption in russia began growing in the 1970s and surged after the soviet breakup in the 1990s as russians struggled to adapt to economic change, health experts said. Alcoholism has taken a heavy toll on russians' health, fueling high levels of mortality, above all among working-age men. Men in russia have an average life expectancy of just 60 years, well below that of western european countries where men have an average life span of 77 years, according to the world health organization. "alcohol consumption per capita is currently about 18 liters a year," which is double the critical norm set by who, the document's authors wrote, adding that much of the alcohol consumed was either homemade or non-beverage alcohols, such as perfume. Official statistics in russia show more than 23,000 people die of alcohol poisoning annually, while another 75,000 die of alcohol-related diseases. Russia's public chamber put the death toll taken by diseases, crimes and accidents due to alcohol at some 500,000 people last year. Authorities plan drastic cuts and possibly a total ban on alcohol advertising, including for low-alcohol drinks that target young people. The health ministry was earlier reported to be mulling a ban on movie scenes involving alcohol.
THIS IS TERRIBLE. The proud people of russia can't survive without vodka, it's their substitute for water. Russia, what are you doing? Source :ussr:
Impossible. This is a war russia can't win.
Impossible. This is a war russia can't win.
meh dw putin will probably get plastered one of these days and just go "why the fuck did I do this stop this shit" and all will be right in the world
i'd expect the russian people wouldn't have noticed and will carry on as normal
75,000 die a year from alcohol related diseases? That's a sobering though.
Didnt work in America, wont work in Russia.
Not even Russia can win this war.

OH SHIT and how many deaths from marijuana 0 yet that aint legal!
Russians will drink perfume if there's no alcohol? Damn.
Title's a bit misleading, I thought Russia is going to declare war on America when I first read the title on the main page On the other hand, banning alcohol in Russia is not any better.
Russians will drink perfume if there's no alcohol? Damn.
Americans did far worse stuff back when they had the prohibition.
Goodbye Vodka, hello Tequila.
It seems like no one actually read the article.. They don't wan't a total ban on alcohol..
Pfft, good luck making (partial) prohibition work in a country like that.
As long as they don't declare war on sandvich.
lol did nobody read the thread, they're POSSIBLY banning alcohol advertising, not alcohol itself. it's a good idea, alcohol is p. bad for you and the advertisements like to pretend that it's the other way around. exploitation, folks banning movie scenes with alcohol is dumb though.
The teens would still drink themselves off into stupors. Russia, why are you looking the wrong way? That's one of the reasons, I left.
CNC: Red Alert 4: THE WAR FOR VODKA.
And then, there's another communist revolution. Thanks a god damn lot, Russian government.
please. not the vodka.

Russia is capitulated by Vodka.
Didnt work in America, wont work in Russia.
There's a difference between banning something and reducing advertising and increasing tax on it.
There's a difference between banning something and reducing advertising and increasing tax on it.
It kinda worked for cigarettes in the UK, we'll see.
I was so ready to make a Prohibition joke :(
How I read the title.
BREAKING NEWS: Russia Declares War
:byodood:
on Alcohol
:geno:
They aren't banning it, and can't you clots read? If the source says that much of the alcohol consumed was homemade there wouldn't be any sense in banning it because they make it at home and don't buy it.
