No it shouldn't, she should use her brain and realize that she's so fat she needs an extra seat.
I think she should just look down (if her gargantuan double chin will allow) and notice that she can't see the bottom half of her torso.
It should have been clear to her that this:

could not fit in this:

or any of these:

Let alone one of these:

which are relatively compact to begin with.
I can hardly fit comfortably in an airline seat, and I'm average weight. I don't get how that'd even work.
On a slightly less related note, I actually know people that are larger due to problems that cannot be remedied by exercise, as in actual medical disorders, so there are some people that this discriminates very unfairly against. Still, you should kind of figure that before you ride.
She has a valid point, though.
People order tickets online though.
Maybe somewhere in the small print would it inform her that size matters.
her claims really aren't that unreasonable. she was booted off two planes, and one of the workers intentionally humiliated her. the fact that she's not even asking for money but for a way for obese men and women to upfront solve this issue is completely reasonable. You can't buy two seats for yourself on airplanes online; this policy makes it so that obese customers have no way of avoiding the humiliation of having a gate worker analyze them and determine they need another seat in front of all of the other customers.
the case is sound.
As someone who used to be extremely obese, I know for a fact its possible to lose weight no matter how big you are. I lost 52 pounds in 5 months. If I can do that while not exercising almost any, then I'm pretty sure someone that's 600 lbs can lose weight just changing their diet.
One of my heavy friends said "I'm not heavy, just big boned" I grabbed his wrist, and he wasn't fucking around. He was big boned :byodood:
I'm far from being the skinniest guy in the world, but it just pisses me off when people let themselves get that big.

There's nothing unfair about it. Despite what others tell, we are not all the same. If you're fat, you're fat. You physically take up more space, reasons why you're fat hardly matter in a practical problem.
something's weird about that news article.
why didn't they use current pictures available on the website they advertised?

looks like she finally fit in a lawsuit!
Eat a salad.

She was. That's why she had that ketchup bottle.

I thought that hair brush was a chicken drum-stick at first.
If I had an airline I'd weigh people a week before their flight, and if they were below a certain weight they could have more luggage with them.
This landwhale on the other hand would either fly or her baggage would.

That would be more fair. Light people should be allowed heavier luggage.
That would be more fair. Light people should be allowed heavier luggage.
But then the landwhales would complain about it.

Put a thin door in the entrance to customer service

But if the landwhale flies without the luggage, you've sentenced an entire holiday resort to seeing something that should not be seen by any man, woman or child.
Which is, to say, the landwhale sans clothing.
Air plane seats are freaking small.
And despite the significant difference, she still has love handles the size of Texas.
It's leftover skin probably. Normally if you lose weight fast, your skin needs time to catch up. Sometimes it's so stretched out until it never does shrink back down and has to be surgically removed.

Well then the landwhales better hope their holiday destination isn't near any whalers.

You can, and are given explicit instructions on how to, purchase two tickets for yourself online with the airline in question.
So, no, this is frivolous bullshit.
Reminds me of when this happened to Kevin Smith.
I was reading his book earlier (Tough Sh*t) and this was in it. Holy shit.
Still. Southwest has a history of being huge cunts in this regard.
They should make a few seats on the plane for larger people or something, and have an option to buy one of those larger seats.
it's hard to decide which would be worse to hear: "you need to get a second seat for your fat ass" or "sorry you're too fat to fly with normal people you need to get the fat people plane" :v:
[editline]5th May 2012[/editline]
the latter only applies if there existed a plane with only extra large seats
[editline]5th May 2012[/editline]
why are people talking about ticking boxes, a decent solution would be adding a notice that if you're above X weight you need to buy two seats or be barred from flying
[editline]5th May 2012[/editline]
if they refuse and still buy a single seat, it's not the airline's fault is it
there might be problems if they are just under the limit but too wide to fit a seat
An "are you overweight" tickbox is just as descriptive
Not descriptive enough. Plenty of fit people, because of their height, are considered overweight even though they aren't, because that BMI index is a load of shit. A tickbox asking if you're above a certain measurement is what's needed. But everyone would cry, because that's offensive. Well to that I say too fucking bad, take the bus then. Planes have limited weight capacity too, that no one's even bringing up. This argument is strictly about comfort of other passengers, which to me, is lower priority really. If you have a plane full of people that weigh double, or nearly triple of an average person, that plane is likely going to crash on Take off, if it's a long flight that requires full tanks of fuel

If diameter of your ass is more than X, charge twice.

Probably not.
Probably not.
The the mass on board and location of the centre of mass of the plane are both very important, and airlines use average passenger weights for passengers to work this out. If you have several very overweight passengers sitting in seats where their presence really upsets the position of the centre of mass, you could actually have a crash on take off.
[editline]5th May 2012[/editline]
Yeah, here's an actual example where a plane stalled and crashed on take off, partly because it was both too heavy and unbalanced (however this was compounded by another issue).
[editline]5th May 2012[/editline]
Though, this is a lot more of a problem on smaller aircraft, since one obese person who weights as much as two non-obese people will be a bigger fraction of total passenger mass, than the same on, say, a 747.
I find it ridiculous that fat people get so angry over these types of incidents. Weight is something that can be adjusted by a person with enough dedication to start going for runs every other day or even simply cutting back on your diet will shed pounds slowly.
In her most recent picture, she really doesn't appear to need two seats. Still a bit heavy though. The problem is that these types of incidents are not "discrimination" as people want to call it. If you don't fit in one seat, you need two. Jamming yourself into a chair is going to make you uncomfortable and whoever is forced to sit next to you. Not to mention that you will be taking a toll on fuel costs as well if you're actually an incredibly large weight.
One thing that baffles me is the fact that people even let themselves get so heavy. I realize the person's height factors in as well. I understand people who can fall into the 200 category. Anything beyond that just perplexes me. Even those with medical conditions should be able to avoid such drastic weights.
It's leftover skin probably. Normally if you lose weight fast, your skin needs time to catch up. Sometimes it's so stretched out until it never does shrink back down and has to be surgically removed.
I don't think it's leftover skin. In fact I don't think any kind of leftover has survived more than 10 minutes in her presence.
I love how 50% of this thread is just making fun of fat people.
Its funny because they won't do anything.
