He peaked around 720 but Mach 1 is lower at high altitudes

As pointed out above, mach depends on temperature, which varies with altitude, it isn't a generic conversion. A quick calculation indicates that the speed of sound at his altitude (taking the air temp at his altitude) is about 1050km/h, I saw him spike to 1100km/h+ so I'm pretty sure he broke it.

Not just temperature, but also air pressure and humidity.

At his temperature and altitude I think you can just assume that you're dealing with dry air. Hopefully they can confirm it in this upcoming press conference though.

But that still leaves pressure, which is actually the main reason why the speed of sound is so drastically reduced at his altitude.
Shit is the video on Youtube somewhere

Yes, it will be uploaded to Redbull Stratos's youtube channel, so check it out in few hours or so. (including the suit video footage which was not streamed)

a) The speed of sound does not depend on air pressure. Have a read of http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-speedsound.htm
b) Even if it did, the pressure was almost a flat 0.
The stream started up again now for what I assume is the press conference, but then stopped again. Should be starting soon.
Goddamnit I fucking missed it and I was playing Peace Walker, completely forgot. Hope they have footage.
Pressure was so close to 0 that it's pretty negligible.
The stream has started up again now for what I assume is the press conference.
Top speed for Felix was around 30 km.

I got on the livestream and that fucking alien doll puzzled me for about 2 minutes. Then some random guy came up and stole his Red Bull, headset and hat, then pulled him off the chair. This scene was quickly replaced by a title card saying a press conference was up n coming in a few minutes.

He's there to make sure the guy doesnt fall into a cloaked space ship.
I apologise if I'm being stupid, but I don't understand how he didn't get the longest freefall time even though nobody has jumped from somewhere higher, does it have something to do with the speed he picks up from the thinner air?

Could have. He also could have opened his parachute earlier than the previous jumper.
"We spent all this money and I don't even get anything to drink?"
Somebody on the interview panel.

Well he broke the speed of sound.
Could have. He also could have opened his parachute earlier than the previous jumper.
He was also spinning all over the place in a pretty much dive position. He'd have been going much faster than when in a controlled position due to the much lower air resistance.

he has balls.
This happened at about 3 am for me so was asleep, is there a video of it somewhere?

The video of the day.
Would suck if he had forgotten his wallet in the capsule.

The capsule has its own parachute, they dont just let it slam into the ground.
Saw this on imgur earlier :v:

What kind of training did Felix have to go through to be able to jump from the stratosphere.

Basically.
The top speed Kittanger reached was 988km/h. The top speed Felix obtained was 1,342km/h. Essentially he covered more distance in a shorter time because of it accelerating faster and for longer.
Also, didn't the record holder (the Russian equivalent of Kittinger) have a drogue chute?
I hope nobody takes undeserved credit for his jump...

He streamlined himself more effectively than the previous record holder, so he reduced his drag and moved much faster.
I would so do that if I had the chance. I would be scared as shit but you know, whatever.
I was hoping for a video of him falling through a head cam...
