funny how being a liberal is often mistaken for being a stuffy elitist cunt tells you something
Funny how being communist is often mistaken for having huge penises and being highly intelligent :smug:.
A Tea Party idiot combined with the lowest point of anything; yeah, this is going to turn out very well. :downs:
I don't know too much about either of them, but let's take a look at the first line.
In this corner, a libertarian, tea party hero who ran several campaigns as a candidate for US president on the Republican ticket. And in that corner, a progressive icon of the left who also ran several campaigns for the US presidency but on the Green Party ticket.
The problem here is that by teaming up, there's a good chance they'll alienate their own voters. I mean, how many tea party voters are going to vote for the party of a progressive? And how many leftists are going to vote for a tea party "hero"? Like I said; I don't know too much about either, so I can't jump on the love/hate bandwagon, but that's just what I see here.
funny how being a liberal is often mistaken for being a stuffy elitist cunt tells you something
Not really [editline]23rd January 2011[/editline] Not in canada or any other country besides america anyway.
Alright so can someone clarify: is Ron Paul socially conservative, economically conservative, or both? Whatever happens it's nice that americans are finally getting something more than a 2-party system.
So, you're going to be FP's newest conservative troll? Welp, there's coffee in the breakroom, and remember: your can never lay your "Facepunch is full of liberals who say lots of mean things about conservatives!" persecution complex on too thick
Hey everybody, it's FP's own gigantic douchebag! In response to the OP: ๏̯͡๏
What the fuck is wrong with returning the the gold standard.
Oh, I don't know, maybe tying our currency to a single (read: also shitty) indicator of the economy, so when the global economy is depressed, our currency then devalues at the same time. Or what happens if semiconductors stop being used and we move to photonics? There goes a large amount of our gold use right there. Now our currency is worth half what it was, but our economy is technically still just as good.
What the fuck is wrong with returning the the gold standard.
Because when you have a major economic recession, like the one we were just in, the government could do jack shit to fix it.
There were a few good things on that platform and a few really terrible things. [editline]24th January 2011[/editline]
What the fuck is wrong with returning the the gold standard.
Soooooo much.
Hopefully Nader can keep Paul's crazy in check.
hopefully Paul can keep Nader's crazy in check. [editline]23rd January 2011[/editline] I hope at some point this coalition tackles the issue of lobbyists head on so we can finally get rid of that terrible part of our government.
What the fuck is wrong with returning the the gold standard.
We do not have a enough gold to support every single dollar that we have in circulation.
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/01/ron-paul-ralph-nader-agree-on-progressive-libertarian-alliance/ Fuck year, now we're going to have 4 parties, with one being there to suck all the stupid away from the other 3
I hope you mean the republican party will be the one sucking all the stupid away and not this coalition or either of the parties involved.
Hey everybody, it's FP's own gigantic douchebag! In response to the OP: ๏̯͡๏
i will commit verbal acts of violence against anyone i dislike i don't give no fuck
Everytime I see a Ron paul thread I always see this picture in my head: [img_thumb]http://www.thetruthorthefight.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Ron-Paul.jpg[/img_thumb] :saddowns: Goddammit why can't I get it out of my head.
That was for a photo shoot. You can even see some of the equipment in the background. I get how it could be analogous to Ron Paul being by himself, however that's fucking stupid. Anyways, I love this. Both are hardworking statesmen who agree on the issues I mostly agree with as well. I'm not sure what we will see of this, but most likely nothing immediate. However, government change is almost always generational so we might see something at least 10 years if they try hard enough, and have successors with the same vigilance. I'm annoyed at some of these ramblings here. FYI most people, government change is slow. Don't expect anything within a year, or even 5, especially if its against the status quo.
When I think of politicians agreeing to work together or compromise, I think of higher taxes and more wasted spending. This though, is something different. I like where it is going.
I can't wait to see how this pans out.
Give it up for Ralph Nader
Fixed that for you. :smug:
hopefully Paul can keep Nader's crazy in check. [editline]23rd January 2011[/editline] I hope at some point this coalition tackles the issue of lobbyists head on so we can finally get rid of that terrible part of our government.
Corporate AND Labor Lobbyists. They both abuse the legislative powers of congress to their own advantage.

I believe that children are entitled to a quality standardized education system free of influence from corporations and religions, I think we should have a police service that answers to the public instead of to their shareholders, I believe that people should be allowed to marry the person they love and that women should be able to choose what they do with their own body, I believe that you should be allowed to patronize any business you like without fear of being discriminated against because of your skin colour, and I believe that healthcare should be a human right for everybody instead of a luxury for the rich. If you disagree with these, vote Libertarian. Just keep in mind that you're voting to move society backwards.

Ron Paul want to repeal the civil rights act so that businesses aren't forced to hire minorities. Ron Paul is for gay marriage, but believes that it should be left either to the states or that marriage should be somehow privatized. Ron Paul advocates the privatization of all industries with the exception of roads, police, military, etc. as most members of libertarian ideology do. He advocates the gold standard as a means of ending inflation due to the fact that their aren't many alternatives to fractional banking. What you just described was somewhere around the area of a Neo-Conservative.
Ron Paul want to repeal the civil rights act so that businesses aren't forced to hire minorities.
And there goes civil rights advancement. Now powerful racists have free reign to be as racist as they want!
Ron Paul is for gay marriage, but believes that it should be left either to the states or that marriage should be somehow privatized.
There goes gay rights advancement. Look at how many states currently allow gay marriage.
Ron Paul advocates the privatization of all industries with the exception of roads, police, military, etc. as most members of libertarian ideology do.
There goes the FDA, enjoy lead in your food. There goes OSHA, enjoy personal protective equipment that breaks all the time. There goes prison and mental health standards. Here come faulty Chinese toys.
He advocates the gold standard as a means of ending inflation due to the fact that their aren't many alternatives to fractional banking.
And what happens when all the gold runs out? It's a finite resource, kind of like using barrels of oil as currency.

You should have posted this first so I could have just disregarded everything you said.
Please let this change something for the good
You must not know ANYTHING about the spirit of Libertarianism. What you just described was somewhere around the area of a Neo-Conservative.
"The spirit of libertarianism" is kind of like "the spirit of communism". It's never been seen or implemented. Somalia is the closest you'll find to a current libertarian society.

Somalia is the closest you'll find to a current libertarian society.
Oh god the amount of times I have heard this. You are confusing the fuck out of Libertarianism and Anarchy. Libertarianism advocates a free society where you have the right to be alive, the right to be whoever you want to be, and the right to do whatever the fuck you want with the benefits you reap from your life. In such a society, there would be a government that holds responsibility for making sure people don't engage others in involuntary transactions. They government also holds responsibility for public cleanliness, infrastructure, defense, and police. TL,DR: A small but healthy government. Do you realize how many fucking things get past the FDA and OSHA, they don't do jack shit. I don't necessarily advocate a gold standard, but I advocate a monetary system that can be physically backed up. Also, it's not like we would be consuming gold, we would be saving gold in fort knox.

Society needs to checks to prevent this. Libertarianism would work if everyone was white, straight, and christian (or bigotry did not exist) but that's simply not the case.
How does forcing people to hire people of a certain color advance civil rights?
There is an undercurrent of racism everywhere in society. Minorities will not be hired as prevalently if people are not made to hire them. I don't like affirmative action either but until bigotry is dead it's the best we can do.
Do you realize how many fucking things get past the FDA and OSHA, they don't do jack shit.
And they'll do even less if they don't exist. It's almost as if you think everyone in the world is racist and out to exploit other people. I am not arguing with you in here anymore, you are either the best troll I have ever met or insane.
You have an extremely distorted view of the world. It's almost as if you think everyone in the world is racist and out to exploit other people.
Look at the under-representation of blacks in politics or the over-representation of them in prison. Just because people aren't being DIRECTLY racist doesn't mean they aren't being INDIRECTLY racist. Also look at how many states ban gay marriage and how repealing DADT is actually a CONTROVERSIAL move. Bigotry is huge in America, and it's everywhere. I'm guessing you're white, straight, and maybe even Christian, which makes it hard for you to see it. Look harder.
