Is an EMP from orbit actually possible?
Is an EMP from orbit actually possible?
I was wondering this, it sounds like it should work but I don't actually know. Maybe MW2 is right, just detonate a nuke in space. Perhaps it is a nuke.. Quick, start writing conspiracies! It could explain the end of the world and everything.
Victorious news!
Is an EMP from orbit actually possible?
If it's a big enough EMP. Remember, you are effectively dealing with the surface area of a sphere. That get's very large very fast.
Did not fucking see this coming. +1 respect for surprising me and actually pulling something off. NK is now at -99 respect.
pssh, they can't even circularize their orbits. maybe they should play ksp some time!
Soo I just looked this up, the planned orbit was a circular 500x500km one. So not a complete success. Unless of course they intend to circularize it later.

470mhz is channel 14 on NTSC analog TV but in UHF or even PAL I have no clue if that translates over. Is anyone with a radio trying to pick this up? I dismantled my antenna a few weeks ago.
Watch as it conveniently falls on one of it's enemy nations
The idea that a country that cant even feed its population is sending a rocket into orbit is sickening.
I am sickened. I'm glad they know how to distribute their budget.
I am sickened. I'm glad they know how to distribute their budget.
The United States can also play in that club too you know.
The United States can also play in that club too you know.
The US doesn't require foreign food aid for subsistence

It claimed to be able to receive UHF but I have no idea what kind of antenna it has or what. I guess it needs to be within range (I know that the ISS can only be picked up on radios when its in certain places) and none of the satellite tracking / prediction sites have got it yet so no one has any idea where it is. Unfortunately the Dutch guy on Twitter who I discovered during the NATO stuff in Libya appears to be asleep, I am sure he would pick it up if its broadcasting. He seems to be able to tune into everything else going on in and around the earth.
I like how at the slightest notion of a threat we could blast it the fuck out of the sky. [editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
The United States can also play in that club too you know.
Did you just lump the US and NK together? Lmao
The United States can also play in that club too you know.
I was actually thing that when I posted it, knew it would come up :v: The U.S. is way to large to be run efficiently, but hey, at least we don't have massive famine. [editline]11 December 2012[/editline] Funny thing is, when it comes to the U.S. I want more money in NASA. Not gonna happen, but atleast we have companies like SpaceX developing rockets now.
The US doesn't require foreign food aid for subsistence
the last thing the usa needs is more food, the first thing it needs is a better way of distributing it than this shit economy. NK on the other hand is taped in it's own ideologies, and refuses aid from anyone who isn't like them. This, plus the fact that their agricultural tech and capabilities are horrendous do not make for a good country. But what can you do, they're going to build a huge army because they are the outcast of the world, and they prioritize military over everything else because they need to reinforce their own solitude in the world on their citizens psyche. The USA on the other hand, is the prime power in the world, and should not need a massive military, it should focus on stuff like education and welfare and the space program if it wants to make strides as an innovative nation. Not a middle east political assfucker.
The US doesn't require foreign food aid for subsistence
Yet the states thinks that it's best to distribute most of its budget towards military funding. The meter long antenna attached to your portable won't be good enough. Depending on the configuration of the satellite's antenna it might almost be worth it to try and see if the mesh on a BUD will work good enough for focused amplification.
I hope it gets shot down, maybe it'll inspire them to feed their people before they go try meaningless shit like space exploration
Now how long before it falls.
depends how long the person manning the pole its attached to can stand up
depends how long the person manning the pole its attached to can stand up
his life probably depends on it, dear leader will have him killed if he stops holding it up
Now how long before it falls.
If it has no thrusters, a year or so. People don't understand that satellites don't just sit up there, they need to occasionally use their thrusters to give them a push, move out of the way of other things etc.
I hope it gets shot down, maybe it'll inspire them to feed their people before they go try meaningless shit like space exploration
When mankind moves to other planets we'll use this quote to leave your family tree on earth.
When mankind moves to other planets we'll use this quote to leave your family tree on earth.
do you honestly think going to space is more important than eating?
do you honestly think going to space is more important than eating?
with the way you said it, people will interpret it as a message to all nations rather than a specific group, "meaningless shit like space exploration." implies all space exploration is meaningless. In the circumstances provided it is, but your sentence structure did not imply the circumstances.
God, this is what I hate about Facepunch, we pick apart each other's sentences. Nah, I could give him the benefit of the doubt, he probably doesn't think that way, OH NO LETS ALL PICK APART THE WHOLE FUCKING SENTENCE. Sorry. Didn't expect this from NK at all though.
shoot it down now [editline]12th December 2012[/editline] or if that's not possible (fuck if I know) crash something into it
It's happening! (somewhat) at 2:08
I made that connection with the death of Kim Jong Il

I think I would have shat myself if it did pick anything up. Still there must be someone on FP who has a giant ass antenna and a radio.
