Watch as it conveniently falls on one of it's enemy nations
It will conveniently drop on top of GomTV's studio in South Korea, during a GSL Code S final. This event will plunge the Koreas into a hundred-year war.
Yet the states thinks that it's best to distribute most of its budget towards military funding. You're going to need an impressive antenna to pull in a satellite broadcast. The meter long antenna attached to your portable won't be good enough. Depending on the configuration of the satellite's antenna it might almost be worth it to try and see if the mesh on a BUD will work good enough for focused amplification.
I wish dad's tree to tree antenna was still up... thing was easily 30 yards across. We also have a dish that was used to pull satellite TV from the middle east (its not very interesting BTW), could that be used here?
so umm. Does an old crt television can find that UHF frequency? Im in PAL region
Anti-satellite weaponry should attach to satellites with magnets and alter their orbits as opposed to blowing them up whilst still in orbit. The latter is far too messy and the potential for debris destroying other objects is great.
so umm. Does an old crt television can find that UHF frequency? Im in PAL region
PAL doesn't have a 470 Mhz channel. A TV probably can't pick it up anyways, though.
I like how at the slightest notion of a threat we could blast it the fuck out of the sky.
How, exactly? Missiles don't work in space.
How, exactly? Missiles don't work in space.
Why wouldn't they? They're effectively the same as rockets (which very much work in space). The US has had anti-satellite missiles designed and tested since 1959.
Good for them then
How, exactly? Missiles don't work in space.
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline] Only has a 100 mile flight range though. So it wouldn't be able to hit the satellite in its current orbit. But I'm sure we probably have something up our sleeve that could.
Seems that since Kim Jong Un is now the dear leader that NK has its ups and downs. First the message that a American could sit pretty much next to Kim Jong Un in a theme park ride, then the news about more starvation, then they shoot a satellite in space and right then an American is detained in NK. Damn it NK, get your shit together.
shoot it down now [editline]12th December 2012[/editline] or if that's not possible (fuck if I know) crash something into it
Why would we shoot down something that poses no threat? You can't just go all "oh boy that satellite looks mighty suspicious to me" and shoot it down, that's an act of war.
Why are facepunchers so excited by the prospect of North Koreans in space?
Peaceful spaceflight is a good thing no matter who's doing it.
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline] Only has a 100 mile flight range though. But I'm sure we probably have something up our sleeve that could.
I'm not sure if the application of airborne lasers against satellites has been researched but their range in atmosphere is already hundreds of kilometers and their power measured in megawatts. Such a weapon fired from a high altitude probably could do some serious damage to a satellite.
LEAKED IMAGE OF TOP SECRET SATELLITE
Nah, that's the one mexico launched.
-snip late
Ah that would explain a lot, was more or less a random attempt because I found an online tunable UHF radio. I think I would have shat myself if it did pick anything up. Still there must be someone on FP who has a giant ass antenna and a radio.
Call in DrLuke with his giant ass yagi. Damn I want one too. It's all static for me.
They'll just stick another stage or two onto the back of the SM-3. That'll do the trick.
Now you're kerballing like a pro.
KSP = (North) Korean Space Program :v:
Because space is awesome, no matter who is doing it.
Not the most fucked up nation on the planet. They are definitely not going to space for scientific reasons.
Does a hunk of scrap metal constitute a satellite?
Does a hunk of scrap metal constitute a satellite?
A satellite is a object orbiting around a planet.
Why are facepunchers so excited by the prospect of North Koreans in space?
Because someone is about to get a new doghouse in the backyard.
A satellite is a object orbiting around a planet.
I know that, but I meant in the more specific sense.
I know that, but I meant in the more specific sense.
A satellite is a object orbiting around a planet, including scrap metal?
It works and depending on where it is detonated and the yield, it could sting a LOT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starfish_Prime
Nuking space. Take THAT space! Also I think we should all submit the question how much damage an EMP from space to whatif (XKCD).
In before space nuke (The US actually tried that and blew all electronics on Hawaii by accident once if I remember) [editline]12th December 2012[/editline] Oh shit I just realized the entire thread was a discussion about this :v:
