gestapo company refusing to buy into GTA V was probably one of the smarter game decisions I made last year. Both on a moral, and literally not-that-good-of-a-game front.
There goes the only decent big games developer in scotland for me. No respect for them. Absolute fucking morons. They ruined this for themselves.
At least the security actually let him in because even they were confused about the situation, compared to some of these stories where a major dev practically gets bouncer'd and kept out like a common thug.
Though at the same time, this whole thing is so shady that I'm not surprised there were so few people in the know. This whole thing boils my blood, The Benz had no right being silently fired like he was and denied the profits that he almost certainly helped raise. I won't be buying anymore Rockstar products again, I can tell you that much.
This whole situation really sucks, but I'm still probably going to buy the next GTA game. Rockstar's hype machine has me by the balls.
Cockstar has released a statement
Rockstar Games has issued what it says will be its only comment on the Leslie Benzies lawsuit. The company says that it attempted to work with the former Rockstar North president during and after his departure from the company to address issues it says are related to performance and conduct. “Leslie Benzies was a valued employee of our company for many years," the company says in an emailed statement . "Sadly, the events that culminated in his resignation ultimately stem from his significant performance and conduct issues. Despite our repeated efforts to address and resolve these issues amicably both before and after his departure, Leslie has chosen to take this route in an attempt to set aside contract terms to which he previously agreed on multiple occasions. His claims are entirely without merit and in many instances downright bizarre, and we are very confident this matter will be resolved in our favor. A core ethos since Rockstar's inception has been the concept of 'the team'. It is deeply disappointing and simply wrong for Leslie to attempt to take personal credit for what has always been the tremendous efforts of the entire Rockstar team, who remain hard at work delivering the most immersive and engaging entertainment experiences we can for our fans. We do not intend to comment further on this matter.”
Must be some minor performance issues if Sam Houser had to beg him to help finish RDR.
Cockstar has released a statement
"Boy we dunno what they're talkin' but hey what about that weather huh?"
the sentence at 7:25 mark is so relevant right now.
Cockstar has released a statement
The really interesting thing here is anyone who works in the industry and and speaks marketese can see that essentially R is admitting moral and contractual culpability here. Basically they marketed him into some shady or sketchy shit and expected him to to tow the line in return for continued employment.
The Houser brothers are finished without "The Benz" There's ABSOLUTELY no way the next GTA will be anything above average. This series is done.
Seriously, Benz is the kinda guy Molyneux had over his shoulder back in the old Bullfrog/Lionhead days and look what happened when that stopped.
holy shit I'm in tears "The darkness!!!" line actually cracks me the fuck up, was the camera not even working? :v:
I'm willing to bet the angles were so bad that it clipped into the player character's hair or something. And like, I totally get it- debugging is a long, hard process, and it probably seemed pretty hopeless at the time when it actually wasn't too bad. Still, the fact that he pleaded The Benz to help them out is pretty pathetic, and only shows how integral he was to the whole thing. It's stupid how they kicked him out, and it's gonna hurt them in the long run.
why is everyone going oooooooh rdr is shit ooooooh rockstar are shit ooooooooh gta is shit yeah ok
RDR was boring and the servers never worked from the beginning and GTAO is a moneygrab. Cockstar sucks in the last few years
[editline]13th April 2016[/editline] idk seems as soon as this thread comes up everyone automatically hates rockstar it seems
why is everyone going oooooooh rdr is shit ooooooh rockstar are shit ooooooooh gta is shit yeah ok
The real question is why do you show to apologize for giant faceless corporations all the time; MS, Bungie, 343S, Starbreeze, Take2, Ubisoft.
I personally haven't had any issues with the micro transactions. I haven't had to buy a shark card in the two and a half years i've been playing GTA online. I just earned all of my money through glitches and heists.
The real question is why do you show to apologize for giant faceless corporations all the time; MS, Bungie, 343S, Starbreeze, Take2, Ubisoft.
Corporate entities are the most oppressed group in the US right after christians and white people. Someone needs to speak up for them
[editline]13th April 2016[/editline] idk seems as soon as this thread comes up everyone automatically hates rockstar it seems
Because R*.are.doing shady fucking shit and don't care about players and awesome games, they just want money nowadays. They threw their ethics and integrity out of the window.
The real question is why do you show to apologize for giant faceless corporations all the time; MS, Bungie, 343S, Starbreeze, Take2, Ubisoft.
lol didnt 343N work as a QA/tester? i'm not too surprised from that background.
Take-Two may be bad, but Rockstar is still the best game dev in my opinion. They made the best game of all time and keep updating it with tons free content. No other AAA-dev is doing that right now.
How naive are you? Do you think they're just releasing free content out of the kindness of their hearts? The free content is released so people will stick with the game (MP side of it, fuck SP, it doesn't make money) http://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-5s-online-mode-has-generated-half-a-billion-do/1100-6438765/
2014 the Defendants flew Mr. Benzies to New York and encouraged him to take a six-month sabbatical to recharge his batteries. The Defendants told Mr. Benzies that the sabbatical was a well-earned rest period, and that “they greatly appreciated his dedication to its business and products.” 15. As it turns out, Defendants had a more permanent separation in store for Mr. Benzies, who when he attempted to return as scheduled from his sabbatical learned he had been ousted from Rockstar. Mr. Benzies also learned that while he was away the Houser brothers had allocated at least $93,000,000 in profit-sharing payments to themselves, with another $523,000,000 in profits still unaccounted for
What a bunch of dicks. Well, I see this burning the franchise to the ground and a very healthy payout for Benzies. Didn't even give him any profit shares then tell him to "recharge his batteries" while they kick his ass out and take all the money GTA5 made. Congratulations Rockstar.
lol didnt 343N work as a QA/tester? i'm not too surprised from that background.
how could a 13 year old be a game tester
I've lost a lot of respect for Rockstar. Not so proud of them anymore.
how could a 13 year old be a game tester
uh i dont know what this is supposed to insinuate, be it an attack on 343N or me, but either way it's underhanded.
It's not just him - much of Rockstar's creative talent is gone and the company is not a good place to work for the remainder. They'd really be better off somewhere else and shitty business practice like this needs to fucking die.
What is wrong with you? What do you mean their talent is gone? You could make sense if their last game was a failure on multiple levels, but GTA V is great on all aspects except where money is concerned. And that aspect is TakeTwo's responsibility, not Rockstar's.
No one called rdr shit, just gta 5 because it is the embodiment of all that is wrong with the game industry i.e. too much greed
What an amazing short-sighted opinion. You talk about GTA V like it has 50 $10 DLCs. While there are some things wrong about the economical aspect of GTA V, it's still much more pleasant than the average multiplayer game as far as money is concerned inside the game.
gestapo company refusing to buy into GTA V was probably one of the smarter game decisions I made last year. Both on a moral, and literally not-that-good-of-a-game front.
If you have any sort of pride for not buying one of this decade's best games, you should rethink what you're doing.
how could a 13 year old be a game tester
that's really insensitive dude
If you have any sort of pride for not buying one of this decade's best games, you should rethink what you're doing.
Not everyone loved the game so. I thought it was OK, but the multiplayer is such a piece of ass everyone I knew couldn't be bothered to play anymore after a few days. If I could go back and choose to not buy the game, I would.
