Oh?
Look up the Malayan Emergency.
I actually watched this interview and he seems to be well reasoned. You can kill a man but you can't kill an ideology.
A miniscule yet necessary role in society that obligates me to ensure the advancement of humanity as a whole?
Get up and do something about it then. Die, for all I care, because that's all you'd get out of facing a guerilla group head on.

Well if I just sat on my ass for the rest of my life and everyone else decided to do the same thing I was doing, then they'd expand into something much-much worse.
Or I can be like the rest, get a decent education, and idle my life away at some job I fucking hate while I just wait to grow old and retire just to finally enjoy myself after 30+ fucking years of slave labor.

Wat. I said do something about it. So go ahead and do something about it. You're whining about what would happen if you didn't. So do it.

Have fun dying for the highest bidder. That's all being a marine boils down to, to be honest.

He's contributed far more than the Taliban ever will.
He's contributed far more than the Taliban ever will.
The Taliban have led a country, he hasn't.
Of course its nearly impossible to beat an insurgency fighting for its beliefs in this day and age with the tactics currently in use. Most military strategists know this, its nearly a historical fact.
Same thing happened with the IRA and the troubles, try as much as they could. Both sides had to come to the conclusion that neither could say "WE WIN". A load of radical idiots still fuck about under a few factions of the IRA today, which is a shame.
Yeah, this is true. He's just saying that a total victory over al-Qaeda is tactically unlikely, but a technical one isn't.
It's very hard to defeat an ideology, even though any remaining founding members are likely to be dead before the next presidential election.

Great leadership there comrade. Pouring acid on girls faces because they know how to read.

What possible reason do you have to defend the Taliban?
Who the fuck are you to judge ?
Who is anyone to judge? The majority, and the majority says "fuck the taliban"

Wait so the military only just realised this? They could have asked me at least a year ago and got the same answer.

We should promote you.
General Strayebird, Chief of Defence Staff.
The Taliban can be beaten its just a matter if you want to go down a dark road to become as bad as them.

Hands down.
The Taliban have led a country, he hasn't.
The taliban slaughtered their own populace, forced them into labour growing poppies for heroin, proceeded to cut that heroin with harmful compounds.
Yeah the taliban are so great.
The taliban are SO GREAT!! that I would infact be honoured to bathe in their shit and piss for they are clearly lords of this world!
Every member of the taliban should be destroyed, their bones ground into powder and and cast into the winds.

The military aren't allowed to decide which wars they fight remember, they go there, assess the situation and plan accordingly.
When your enemy proceeds to preach their views in plain sight and you're not allowed to do anything about it, when they hide amongst the people and you're not allowed to do anything about it, then you're kinda fucked.

Oh I agree, but this guy is acting like the fact that Al-Qaeda are some real toughies is a new revelation. I mean, it's a group of religious warriors who don't see death as a bad thing, and for every chap you kill, there are three more to take his place. If a kids dad is killed in our army, it's unlikely that the kid will join the army just to avenge his father, it's a lot of training and work to go to. If a kid's dad is killed as an insurgent, the terrorist cells are only too happy to shove an AK in his hand and march him out to fight.
Oh I know, that's why I think we should hurry the fuck up and train the ANA and get the fuck outta dodge.
