I disagree, the Pacific ocean is trying its hardest
Oh no, one of my city's media outlets is trying to spin the Japanese reactor concerns into American concerns over our own reactors.
Even if nothing further happens with the Japanese reactors, I'm sure everyone else will have nuclear energy concerns for a while.
Why does the reactor continue to heat up even after it is off?
C-concious.
who was the genius who didn't have any plan B on these coolant systems...
Like really..
who the fuck designs this shit? An earthquake shouldn't cripple the power station.
Politics aside, lets just hope for the Japanese people.

They didn't expect a failure of all backup systems at once.

0548: The plant's operator, the Tokyo Electric Power Company, tells AFP: "We believe the reactor is not melting down or cracking. We are trying to raise the water level."
So is it possible for a china man syndrome scenario to occur? That's what worries me the most right now
Bit more information.
URGENT: Concerns of core partially melting at Fukushima nuke plant
TOKYO, March 12, Kyodo
The core at Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant's No. 1 reactor may be partially melting, the nuclear safety agency said Saturday.
Radioactive substance cesium was detected around the reactor, it said.
I wonder if they could establish some sort of a live internet feed in the nuke plant so we can see what's going on all the time.
What's next, Godzilla?
welp looks like its time to buy the next ticket out of Japan before it blows its self to oblivion

...she'll be completely safe and there will be nothing to worry about at all.
Finished that for you since you seemed to trail off into a silly reverie.

Unless the reactor is bombed then nothing is going to explode, reactors do not (despite common belief) explode when they melt down, surprisingly enough, they melt things down, this gave rise to the term China Syndrome.

I fucking love you. I had no idea this kind of thing was on youtube.
It just flickered on Kyodo that they've successfully reduced pressure in the first reactor
BREAKING NEWS: Pressure successfully released from Fukushima No. 1 reactor: agency (15:31)
They're also saying that they aren't ruling out that Reactor no. 2 is possibly leaking radiation

Nah, mothra will get there first.
Elements are already unstable and its foolish to say that the facilities aren't in a state of "nuclear meltdown" This reaction is extremely hard to stop once it reaches a critical level. They only delay it by use vent cooling / adding nuclear coolant supplied by the US. Chance are its going to melt down... Which in its own right is terrible but its a truth.
Or if it's like most modern reactors, then they could just kill the power to the station which kills the electromagnets holding up the control and moderator rods, they drop into the reaction chamber and stop all the free neutrons.
Watch.
A day later it melts down when everyones waking up for FP. Despite common sense and real physics they miraculously explode the size of Tzar bomba.

This is if the nuclear power plant goes "boom"?
Containment has already failed, radiation has leaked outside the plant (though 8x background radiation at the gates of the plant is not that bad). Since last I heard they managed to reduce pressure in the core, I think that's about as bad as it's going to get.
