Yeah unless something drastic happens then it's pretty much smooth sailing from here on out, relatively speaking at least.
Containment has already failed, radiation has leaked outside the plant (though 8x background radiation at the gates of the plant is not that bad). Since last I heard they managed to reduce pressure in the core, I think that's about as bad as it's going to get.
:| The reactor is surrounded by a concrete dome so that it doesn't leak out of the plant.
:| The reactor is surrounded by a concrete dome so that it doesn't leak out of the plant.
It got out somehow, elevated radiation levels have been reported outside the plant. It's likely the containment dome cracked, though the dome probably contained the vast majority of the contaminants. It's not likely to come from the steam for the turbines which, while being directly exposed to the reactor due to that particular design (boiling water reactor), the half-life of the radioactive elements in the steam is measured in seconds.

I can't find any sources saying there has been an uncontained release of radioactive particles.
nhk footage shows steam-like smoke coming from tepco's fukushima plant
oh shiiii- (This is from REUTERS)
Here's a clearer source (specifically, from the company that operates the nuclear power plants there), they measured increased levels of radioactivity by car and monitoring post, which i'm assuming is the one at the gate. http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/press/corp-com/release/11031211-e.html
There has been an explosion at the reactor
-snip-

http://live.reuters.com/Event/Japan_earthquake2 Seems the explosion wasn't at the reactor. EDIT: Damn, ninja'd :argh:

0:27 513 meltdown, problem solved.
It's unfortunate to hear that a meltdown is possibly occuring at the reactor. This now means that all they can do now is dump boron into the core and let the reaction die off. This now means that 450 megawatts of power has been taken off the grid and Japan has got several hundred tons of radioactive waste they now have to handle.
Blowout soon fellow stalker.
When?

fucking dicks japan is like the wors country to live in right now.
Several people appear to be injured at Fukushima nuclear plant - NHK Then what the fuck happen?
Clearly no one has a good idea of what happened yet
It makes me wonder why they didn't use a reactor design that would avoid this, having the reactor heat up when turned off seems silly to me.
I'm scared someone hold me
It makes me wonder why they didn't use a reactor design that would avoid this, having the reactor heat up when turned off seems silly to me.
I'm gonna rate you tool and now I'll explain why that's quite a retarded statement you've made. Radioactive material will always heat up because it releases very fast nuetrons (high kinetic energy particles) now if you know a bit about physics you'll know that heat is simply a measure of particle kinetic energy, ergo, radioactive material very hot, sometimes enough to burn concrete and melt metals. Lo and behold, you cant have a cold reactor without constantly pumping water through it.
Is it bad that i actually wanna see it explode?
Reports starting to come out that exclusion zone is increasing to 60km
Is it possible that the fallout reaches the US, if it ever gets that severe?
Even though this is a bit old by now, id like to point out that the fallout from chernobyl had a relatively minor effect on levels of radiation generally. The fallout in places other than the immediate area around it made very little difference
Shit just got real.
