The hydrogen explosion could have blown the reactor chamber wide open. :ohdear:
This just keeps getting worse and worse.
They are smart im sure they will think of a temp fix
The hydrogen explosion could have blown the reactor chamber wide open. :ohdear:
If so, I hope they have some kind of plan for something like this. :ohdear:
The hydrogen explosion could have blown the reactor chamber wide open. :ohdear:
Doubt it, they'll have thought if that shit dude, it's probably just some Deuterium/Tritium/Helium that was formed by neutrons passing through the walls of the reactor into the hydrogen.
Assuming that the Hydrogen is used as a coolant.

I love just how casual that sounded in my head :v:
"Yeah one of the buildings is gone, so what? you win some you lose some "
[release]Fukushima prefecture says Tepco's no.1 reactor ceiling has collapsed - Jiji[/release]
good GOD
I feel like quite an idiot now for saying it wasn't going to get worse.
Fukushima prefecture says Tepco's No. 1 reactor ceiling has collapsed.
You're kidding me, It just went from bad to shitstorm then.
Wait, as in the ACTUAL ceiling of the reactor chamber, or the roof of the building.
Please don't be the first.
Hopefully it was just the inner wall and not the whole ceiling...
Another video of the explosion

Oh dicks it is the reactor ceiling, that means the primary containment boundary will have broken.
The secondary boundary was the buildings, and it seems that one of them pulled a Houdini and disappeared.
In short, they're fucked :derp:
No... No! :byodood: OH THE HUMANITY JAPAN IS FUCKED
I'm gonna rate you tool and now I'll explain why that's quite a retarded statement you've made.
Radioactive material will always heat up because it releases very fast nuetrons (high kinetic energy particles) now if you know a bit about physics you'll know that heat is simply a measure of particle kinetic energy, ergo, radioactive material very hot, sometimes enough to burn concrete and melt metals.
Lo and behold, you cant have a cold reactor without constantly pumping water through it.
Ever heard of control rods? They are used to slow down the reactor (by absorbing those neutrons) which reduces the output of the reactor (and as such, the heat).
The design of the reactor used here obviously still uses control rods, but it's designed to still require cooling even if all the control rods are fully inserted (similar to Pressurised water reactors).
The earthquake could have damaged the systems, or the Japanese aren't very good with nuclears safety.
i'm going to take a wild guess and say that japanese reactors are going to be safe as fuck since Japan had uh two nuclear weapons dropped on them
why are you people rating me dumb
the japanese have had a certain level of paranoia about nuclear weapons, it's natural for this paranoia to extend to nuclear power plants, especially since the japanese have experienced the effects of radiation from the bombs
By the looks of the video, the wind was blowing NNW.
NNW is fucked :derp:
[editline]12th March 2011[/editline]
Looks like they're preparing a press conference

It's all in Japanese though
By the looks of the video, the wind was blowing NNW.
NNW is fucked :derp:
It's actually going east. It is highly likely, if containment has completely failed and significant quantities of nuclear material have been released, that radiation will reach the western shores of the United States. I have to stress the "if", though with recent events I don't hold much hope anymore.
The wind is blowing east, out to the ocean. Local news is confirming that explosion occurred and roof collapsed.

If you want to watch japan news from a japan guy.
He translates the import parts of the news.

Depends on how long it will take them to stop the leak if the core is exposed. Chernobyl had a massive hole in the roof right above the exposed core, right? Hopefully the ceiling fell on the core and covered it again or something.
Depends on how long it will take them to stop the leak if the core is exposed.
Pretty much. At least it's not on fire, is all I can really say.
Pretty much. At least it's not on fire, is all I can really say.
Yea, as long as it's not gonna start burning up the whole thing it won't be as bad as Chernobyl. It's probably nasty in the plant right now.
Confused as shit, what does this mean for the US? Will the radiation reach us or?
This is not looking good at all.
Is it confirmed that the reactor ceiling collapsed?
14,000 people are being evacuated, went from 3,000 to 14,000 when the explosion occurred, Sky has full round coverage of it, the danger zones are huge, it almost goes from the East to the West coast (half way)

Did you not see the video of the whole thing popping like a baloon?
Confused as shit, what does this mean for the US? Will the radiation reach us or?
Possibly if its blown out across the pacific or its swept, but you would be worried about other parts of the pacific and Japan.
Did you not see the video of the whole thing popping like a baloon?
no
i don't watch videos this early in the morning
