• Japan struggling to cool down nuclear reactor
The real question is: is the core exposed or not and is it on fire?
If the core was exposed and on fire, it would of have been larger than a 6m evacuation and they wouldn't be trying to maintain the plant Could melt down due to lack of coolant. Think of the reactor as a kettle, it heats up water and produces energy, the energy has to be taking away or it will continue to get hotter and hotter and it would create a sort of fire in the reactor and the cans that hold the uranium can melt, causing the materials held in the fuel rods will melt and cause fires and a meltdown, that's why their release pressure, no nuclear explosion. Radiation is at allowed annual dose. [editline]12th March 2011[/editline]
How exactly isn't that bad?
Because normal radiation levels of exposure are like 1 rad, less. 20x more than amount is still relatively low, equipment can still withstand it and it won't kill (unless you live with it, sleep with it, mate with it).
How exactly isn't that bad?
It would be bad if it would be on fire and exposed like the Chernobyl reactor was and emitted massive amounts of radiation. Right now it's leaking so it's bad, but not as bad as Chernobyl.
oh shit, I'm in the range of that explosion. Should i go on a trip if the explosion happens? somewhere for a month?
First, there won't be an explosion. Nuclear Reactors are built so there isn't an explosion. Also, yea, try and get as far away from radiation as you can. It's bad for your health dontcha know?
It would be bad if it would be on fire and exposed like the Chernobyl reactor was and emitted massive amounts of radiation. just got breaking news over here in aussieland that radiation has leaked. well fuck.
It would be bad if it would be on fire and exposed like the Chernobyl reactor was and emitted massive amounts of radiation. Sure, it may not be too bad at the moment, if the reactors are not stabilized soon enough, it will eventually turn the surrounding into a second Chernobyl.
the map is fake or at least, there are no legitimate sources for it. not saying it isn't a possibility but it certainly isn't confirmed to be as bad as the map says it will be
Wow, poor Japan. In 24 hours their country has been reduced into a shithole that might just become a radioactive shithole.
Yet. Sure, it may not be too bad at the moment, if the reactors are not stabilized soon enough, it will eventually turn the surrounding into a second Chernobyl.
Only if a fire will start in the reactor hall, or the core melts through the entire thing.
the map is fake or at least, there are no legitimate sources for it. not saying it isn't a possibility but it certainly isn't confirmed to be as bad as the map says it will be
Its not fake, its a sketch of the possible outcome if the worst were to happen, if the worst did happen expect a professional sketch on CNN or Sky News.
Only if a fire will start in the reactor hall, or the core melts through the entire thing.
True enough, but there's no accurate prediction on how bad the situation may get at this stage.
Its not fake, its a sketch of the possible outcome if the worst were to happen, if the worst did happen expect a professional sketch on CNN or Sky News.
a sketch by whom? what are their credentials? it's certainly not by the ARS like it says
True enough, but there's no accurate prediction on how bad the situation may get at this stage.
Well yea, that's the problem. We don't know what is going on there right now.
Japan has just officially requested international help.
If it turns into a Chernobyl incident it would be 20x more damage as the radiation clouds etc. would be swept across the pacific as shown and huge incidents within Japan.
Also, Chernobyl was so bad because the roof of the reactor building got blown off. That won't happen in Japan because it is a little more stabilized, and the Russians didn't have their control rods down at all. The Japanese still have a cooling process while the coolant in Chernobyl was also steam.
a sketch by whom? what are their credentials? it's certainly not by the ARS like it says
Even if its not made by the ARS it is still an accurate map of the damage it could cause.
Japan has just officially requested international help.
Where are you getting the live updates from by the way?
Radiation levels increased after the explosion: http://finchannel.com/news_flash/World/82983_Radiation_levels_increase_at_Fukushima_No.1_after_blast_reports/
Yeah, Russians don't care if works efficiently but as long as it works.
Yes, but in the end, they dun goofed.
Yes, but in the end, they dun goofed.
They always goof, just like the space programs and the cold war.
Where are you getting the live updates from by the way?
Twitter live updates from the various news accounts (BBC, Reuters, NHK etc) + various TV Channels.
Haha, Sky News just confirmed that Japan has requested specifically for help from the British. Cos' were the best in the planet for everything and anything ;)
Haha, Sky News just confirmed that Japan has requested specifically for help from the British. Cos' were the best in the planet for everything and anything ;)
Isn't kinda too late for help since they got a fucking hole in the roof?
They always goof, just like the space programs and the cold war.
and the communism
Isn't kinda too late for help since they got a fucking hole in the roof?
i'm not sure about that, but at the very least the British could help with evacuation and such
Isn't kinda too late for help since they got a fucking hole in the roof?
Must be contained as you can't see the repair crews evacuating or the news going ape-shit with it, they need more engineers to keep the core contained etc. maybe the British engineers can provide some extra expertise and creativity.
