Apparently they were celebrating the deaths of the Joplin MO tornado a month or so ago.
No. Selfish would be enforcing an outdated moral code on everyone.
You're selfish. When you have a funeral, it's for your friends and family to remember you. It literally has nothing to do with your own selfish ideas.
anybody care to explain to me why the WBC deserves to be protected under the 1st amendment, without emotional appeal? thanks
all they serve to do is to incite anger and hatred
They do it to make money. Every time they go and protest and someone tries to stop them from protesting they wave around the 1st amendment like it's some responsibility/morality shield and because of their depressingly kick-ass legal team, they win.
Which is dumb because the 1st amendment is pretty much there for the sole purpose of being able to say what you want about the government without you getting hauled-off and be-headed, not as a means to give you the right to be a mega-cunt in public.

Exactly. First amendment is not equal to hate speech, or defamation of character.

I remember a post on these guys about their protesting funerals. The post said that "when one of these people die off, everyone should go to their funerals, pay their respects, and leave. This was mark WBC as the biggest assholes in history".
I take no credit. Nor do I know the original poster, who is a bad ass for thinking up this.

Funny thing is, Wikileaks is illegal because it can say whatever it wants about the US government, and yet your allowed to do what WBC does as if it's harmless.
Or just have party boy follow Phelps for a solid year.
now that would be a good anti picket
party boy their asses into the ground
"heyy guys, sweet protest" ~rips off clothes~
Yeah, I mean this is hate speech. Isn't that illegal? Defamation of character?
At the very least it's a public disturbance.
At the very least it's a public disturbance.
Well THEY aren't causing the disturbance, they're legally protesting.
actually the first amendment is kind of a paradox.
the law of free speech entitles you to say what you want, so a sign that says god hates fags is okay, but then you get arrested for misconduct for having the sign :psyduck:

They are legally protesting, that's how they are getting around all of this. IRS needs to realize that they aren't a real church, and start taxing them. They will disappear very quickly.
Well THEY aren't causing the disturbance, they're legally protesting.
Protesting what? The war? Gay marriage? Cow farts? There's better places to protest that where it would actually have an impact rather than causing emotional distress in a time of mourning.
Well judging by how old Fred Phelps is, we should all protest his funeral next week when he dies.
That just makes you as bad as them.
And besides, they'll probably protest his funeral as well, seeing as how they think everyones going to hell.

Protesting homosexuals, mockery of sin (in Dunn's case), all kinds of stupid shit. But the constitution protects them.

indeed. but i've always wondered, do they even contact local police to let them know there's going to be a protest? because if not, all you're legally doing is standing on street corners and yelling, which is basically creating a public disturbance.

The wikileaks thing could be seen more as treason, 1st amendment is more speaking out against government actions (which there were plenty of leaks involving American fuck-ups but also matters that were considered matters of national security).

They have to get a permit from the county for a picket line, otherwise they are causing a disturbance, according to the constitution.
I remember these asshats. They protested at my school for absolutely no reason, and we decided to counter-protest them being there.
Overall, they are scum and we should party on their graves once they're dead.
they shouldn't get graves. they should get thrown out on the ocean.
they shouldn't get graves. they should get thrown out on the ocean.
Muslim burial for the radical Christians. I like it.

Again, there's better places to gather and protest such things where it could make more of a progressive impact if they truly thought they were right, but choosing to do so at funerals when families are trying to put their loved ones to rest is causing un-necessary stress and hardship on the families involved.
waiting for yawmen.
I can't really understand how the WBC is making much profit. I rarely see them sue anyone. Also I think some of the members are either really stupid or greedy because one of the member's daughter was disowned due to not agreeing with them.

They're mocking the whole of America. Why the hell do they need to do it at a Funeral though? Protests are meant to be held at a place of business you have an issue with, and your meant to have an actual reason and message.
At first I was raging so hard, but then again... we are talking about the jackass crew.
What a bunch of losers. Don't they have any better things to do with their time than protest a bunch of funerals and piss of all of America?

Why the fuck are they doing things like this?
This is how they make money. Insult people, provoke them, get attacked, sue.
All thanks to American justice system that lets you do that shit.
To be fair, at a funeral I doubt the first thing on many people's minds would be "yeah, fuck them up!" Like, I could imagine you'd probably be a bit too upset to really feel like you could fuck any shit up, even if you were from Jackass.
Channeling grief into rage is a common thing when insulting the deceased. I mean, if some people would show up at my mom's or brother's funeral and started insulting her/him, I'd go fucking mental, end up in prison or psychiatric ward for not controlling myself.
