1) A politician's worth is in his or her ability to accurately and impartially represent and address the concerns, needs and views of the people in his or her constituency.
2) People say dumb shit on the internet because of anonymity - the belief that nobody will find out who they really are and that consequences will not reach them. A public figure who is autistic enough to go full /pol/ retard does not a good politician make, and is probably painting a target on his own head.
3) Public office should be the realm of well-adjusted, intelligent, articulate and understanding individuals. Not the semi-retarded clowns or religious fanatics that appear to dominate politics in the Southern states.

You reap what you sow. If anything this goes to show how important voter turnout can be. If you don't want oddballs like this winning seats, go fucking vote for a decent human being. I don't know if the Republicans of Travis voted him in as some kind of comedy option but they brought this upon themselves. All that we can do is laugh and their terrible decision.
