Holy fuck, I was in school with this guy. I never knew that happened to him, haha!
The brain is a mutation, as is personality, and every other aspect of human condition. Change is not inherently terrible, and there were no originals.
When did I say mutation was a bad thing?
Sounds like someone's unconsciously homophobic.
What kind of stroke?
Well as terrible as it sounds it appears that homosexuality is a mutation of the brain. Makes you think what other personality traits are mutations and what the originals were?
I'm imagining this huge, buff guy in a coma in the hospital, with his family and friends around him. He wakes up.
"Oh my god! He's up! Are you okay, Bob?"
"Okay? I'm not just okay. I'm faaaaaaaaaabuloooouuuuus!"
Hell, some even wake up being able to speak other languages fluently.
At worst people will say this is proof that gays are brain damaged or some bullshit, at best this goes towards the idea that it isn't a conscious decision you can make.
But I don't know why he went along with those gay cliches.
With the language thing: wasn't there someone who woke up suddenly speaking English? So, if anyone says "This is proof that being gay means you have brain damage!", you can just retort "Yeah, well, so does speaking English."
quotes
Uh, I was saying that because mutation has a negative connotation, not because being gay or changing brain structures is a bad thing.
I guess this supports that sexual orientation is hardcoded into the brain, but I'm sure some idiot will think that a change in the brain like this is still caused by damage and all gay people are retarded.
In this case, it WAS a change in the brain that WAS caused by damage. This says nothing for all gays, but it might give us an interesting insight into what factors in the brain cause sexual orientation.

Wow, he looks like a pro douche.
For a hair stylist his hair is pretty awful.
But why would he suddenly turn so.. camp?
It's likely his subconscious interpretation of what being gay is like.
For a hair stylist his hair is pretty awful.
That style is beginning to get pretty popular in England
Uh, I was saying that because mutation has a negative connotation, not because being gay or changing brain structures is a bad thing.
I'm sorry, I just assumed you were misinformed because directly after that you wondered what the original personality traits were.

Livin' out the stereotype.

I meant more along the lines of the majority of people are straight and the article proves that there is something in the brain that can change personality traits, so are people supposed to be outgoing and introverts have a different brain structure, do hard-working people have a different brain structure, etc.

your still assuming that people are "supposed" to be something. Disregarding wording, it is an popular question to ask if there are default positions in neurology. I recommend this Wikipedia page for further inquiry.
Just want to point out this doesn't help the argument that american football is gayer than rugby...
Back in the day we called those things 'personalities'.
Back in the day it was classified as a mental disorder, but then the APA held a conference in San Francisco that was basically held hostage by gays who demanded they abandon the Scientific Method and remove it from the DSM.
ahem
Anyway it is painfully obvious that this guy has always been gay and wanted to be a hairdresser but repressed it. Then when he had the stroke he decided life was too short so he came out and used the stroke as an excuse.
I feel bad for his friends and family, who stood by him until he woke up and realised he wanted nothing to do with them.

pussies and their pansy safety equipment.

They still wake up straight after getting hit. :quagmire:
Holy shit, that can actually happen?
Holy shit, that can actually happen?
no, its just a moron who's using "stroke" as an excuse to show his inner homosexuality to the world, instead of just announcing he was gay.
no, its just a moron who's using "stroke" as an excuse to show his inner homosexuality to the world, instead of just announcing he was gay.
I agree, there is way more evidence that he was a self hating gay before than there is that strokes can change personalities.
Hope so, I don't want to wake up from a coma and find out that I'm jesus.

Fucking knew it. This was the first site to report it, 2 hours before MSN did.
I call bullshit.
edit: for non-UKers Daily Mail is about as reputable as someone's scribblings on a toilet cubicle.
But why would he suddenly turn so.. camp?
that's probably the impression he had of gay people beforehand and his brain just kind of wired his gay stereotype section up as his personality section accidentally
no, its just a moron who's using "stroke" as an excuse to show his inner homosexuality to the world, instead of just announcing he was gay.
I don't see why this is dumb, this makes a lot of sense and is probably more likely than the stroke making him gay
I don't see why this is dumb, this makes a lot of sense and is probably more likely than the stroke making him gay
Because severe personality changes are common in stroke victims, having a stroke so that you can come out as gay isn't.
that's probably the impression he had of gay people beforehand and his brain just kind of wired his gay stereotype section up as his personality section accidentally
man I hope a white supremacist has a stroke and wakes up having the same personality as their derogatory impressions of a black guy

What constitutes mental disorder is entirely subjective. Science may be objective, but taxonomies are probabilistic things and in some cases subject to entirely social concerns of the times.
