It's not unlikely. I'd imagine most of the people in Australia are either outraged or completely oblivious of the situation. As I mentioned earlier, the other party is apparently the Conservative one and people probably voted against them in hopes of avoiding what their country is experiencing. If the other party hasn't already taken a stance on these laws, they will likely go against it as it would get them a tremendous amount of support.
