Because all 12 year old girls are innocent angels and can be at no fault. Are you living on Earth?
No, you don't hold a 12 year old responsible when there are adults involved who should know better.
No, you don't hold a 12 year old responsible when there are adults involved who should know better.
Maybe so, wish I had so little responsibility when I was 12.
Is this the thread where we blame twelve year old girls for being victims?
In this case she was texting with older men on a dating website explicitly banning her for her age, basically ruining three men's lives because she didn't understand how bad of a crime she was framing them for [editline]27th July 2015[/editline] The three should sue okcupid for damages because they didn't validate her age properly, I don't think guys on a legitimate dating website should be held liable for sexual assault with a minor when they are demonstrably under the impression that the sites vetting process is only letting of age women on However it's incredibly unclear if they physically met or just chatted online, if they actually met then its a different story, but if they didn't then this is a case of the laws not reflecting the society
A 12 year old girl with obvious issues was in over her head on a dating website and three adults who should know better exploited her immaturity. Yet all I see being discussed is the girl's responsibility and not the fact that three grown men are scumbags who fuck with underage girls, and I'm the one not living on Earth?
I wish I could pull up some of the profiles I've seen where they were posing as someone older. The profiles are usually pretty convincing. Its only when you start talking to them you can weed them out. But even then that is not always easy. I've been lucky because in my experiences every one I've dealt with has fessed up and told me they were not the age they claimed. Sure the girl is super immature, but she knew what she was doing. I have mix feelings about these men though. With all I know they could of been lead on with no knowledge of her actual age like they claim, or they could of figured it out and took advantage of it. So honestly I'm not sure what to think. Otherwise Okcupid is like any other website when it comes to age checks. So I don't think suing okcupid would do anything for them.
Article doesn't specify what sexual assault is here. Could this include sexting/dick pics? If they met in real life and the dude's were ok with it, that's not right. But if they were sexting a girl with the expectation she's an adult (on an 18+ site), how could they have known she was underage. I feel like we're missing details.
They plead guilty which is why they got light sentences. I bet the reasoning is that this saves the girl from having to testify in court, which could be traumatic. A quick search shows Ryan Minzer was originally charged with rape and various other charges. He apparently had sex with her in a park bathroom- classy! So it's all but certain all three raped her. Getting a rape conviction is not a sure thing though, hence the plea deal.
Do you ask to see the ID of your potential sexual partners? Like, genuinely? I've never asked to see the license of someone I've had sex with, and that even seems like an unreasonable request for anyone to make.
Just how desperate for sex are you that you won't even bother trying to size up the situation? How young does a person have to look before you reconsider your actions? If someone looks like they may be under-aged, then yes, you should stop and verify their age. Stop pretending that once sex is on the brain, people turn into mindless zombies. Or lord forbid, you ruin the mood and don't get laid. I could maybe understand the debate if this girl were 15, but she's 12. She may have some psychological problems that affect her behavior. Or perhaps she's just curious, or she wants to feel like an adult. That doesn't change the fact that she has an immature mind. That doesn't somehow make her fuck toy.

Seriously, after getting fucked in a park bathroom at 12 years old, she decided to go back? Seriously... :snip:I think Juvenile probation and a few days in a Juvi cell would help her clear her mind.
I'd withhold judgement until I see what the girl looks like. I remember one time years ago, when I went shopping with my mother and she started talking to someone in the store who I thought was one of her friends from her work. I was confused when she came over and started talking to me because as it turns out it was someone who I went to Junior school with who was in the same year as me. We were both 16 but she looked about 40 and if you'd told me that was the same person I knew from all that time ago I'd have called you a filthy liar. When people say, "Dude she was 12 how could you mistake her for an 18 year old", I think of that moment. If she genuinely does look her age and the guys could tell but decided to play it hush hush to get some, then they're exploitative and probably deserve their punishment, if not then I don't think they should be in trouble at all.

I'm just curious where the hell the parents are while she's signing up for dating sites like this.

I think there should be no discussion until we get more information, if they didn't get charged with rape "sexual assault" could mean a lot of things. We also don't know if they physically met.
Wasn't there another story like this recently about some dude getting locked up for screwing a kid that also lied about their age?
Because she's clearly intending to have sex and everyone else is pretending that she's a little darling baby girl who simply can't be held accountable for her actions.
12 year olds cannot legally consent to sex with grown men. It's shocking that this has to be explained to you (not the first time either iirc) but here we are. This is what boggles my mind. There is absolutely no limit to the credulity with which a man can justify having sex with an underage girl. All he has to do to absolve responsibility is say the magic words "I thought she was 18" and he is instantly given the benefit of the doubt with no skepticism whatsoever. This is especially egregious considering the three men in question plead guilty. In what is clearly an exploitation case, scrutiny is only placed on the victim who is essentially accused of being some modern lolita ensnaring innocent men with her feminine wiles.

Your point still has no legal leg to stand on so I dunno what you're trying to argue.
Isn't the age of consent 16 in most places and not 18?
it's still statutory rape regardless of the age of consent with the girl being 12
it's actually not uncommon amongst "cougar" women to "card" the boys they meet to make sure they're not sleeping with 15 year olds or whatever
I've never met a cougar. Still waitin', one thing I wouldn't mind being ID'd for is a milf.
How do you believe someone is eighteen when they are twelve?
Have you seen girls now-a-days? I mean, Christ, I'm very far from a Pedo, but the younger ones look a lot more older and more attractive its honestly hard to tell without looking at their ID.
Looks can be very deceiving when it comes to women. When I started college, I had just turned twenty-one. People in my class thought I was a 16 year old highschool senior trying to get college credits. Everyone else thought I was 14 or so. When I was 18, I have a bunch of girls accuse me of lying about my age and getting other people to lie to back me up. Why? I looked 12-14 because I never grew past 4'11". My step-sister, meanwhile, if she put on makeup and dolled herself up, was able to pass for 18 at 13 because she was already 5'2" and a C cup. Depending on how the 12 year old developed, she very well could have passed for 18.
Didn't we have a similar discussuion a year or two ago? Someone brought up some pretty convincing "12 or 20" pics.
Well then the message here is when in doubt, don't fuck around without confirmation.
... But that still doesn't solve the issue of a 13-year-old who is still prowling around for some adult dick, and I don't give a fuck what you say that is not normal behavior. She needs some type of therapy because she will keep luring men in and honestly if she has a mental disorder feeding it will not make it any better.
OkCupid requires it's users to be 18 so it's not like the men were intentionally looking for underage girls, that girl needs some serious therapy and should be banned from using the internet unsupervised. The fact that she continued to use it during the case is disgusting.
The girl was likely already the victim of some kind of abuse before she started using the website, that's the sad part. If she had the support system to deal with that, she probably wouldn't be in park bathrooms having sex with grown men. Those of you implying a 12 year old has any clue what she's doing with grown men need to remember we(society) won't trust a 12 year to show the judgment needed to drive a car, vote in an election, sign a legally binding contract, get a bank loan without a co-signer...all sorts of adult things. But she IS capable of making her own decisions about sex with adults? Yeah, right.
Do we really know the details? did they really have sex with her?
