That's why I can't stand the people who are all "Oh those Occupy protestors just want a hand-out!" when it was the banks were the ones who seemed awfully eager to get all that money when shit went south.
Exactly, our current system of corporatism doesn't work well at all. As I like to put it, our government has too much of a role in the private sector, and our private sector has too much of a role in our government.
Why wouldn't it? People want to defend these CEO's like they've earned this, but they haven't, even if they did, that's horseshit. The CEO of Lehman brothers made 415 million dollars during the bankrupting of his bank. He's not a minority case of what these people are making and doing. They're profiting from the failures of other things and of us because these people are unaccountable and will forever be that way. They have power, power takes away the realization you have to be accountable, this is backed up even when people are given just a bit of power, I don't have to imagine what happens when you give people nearly all of the power.
It's sad really. In all honesty, know what I would do if I had any of this power? I'd rule out of my house that I currently live in. Two bed, two bath, kitchen and living room, and one story high. I'd use the money I'd receive to simply live as well as I can, and if I had a bankers money dear god I'd be set forever with how I live. I'm content with how I live, and I swear if I had the money and power that bankers had, I'd actually be doing good with it. If I saw something fucked up in the town I live nearby, I'd donate money to get that certain issue addressed. Say a park gets fucked up, restore it. Police need better equipment, make a donation. The whole issue is when people get this power, they like to see how far they can go. I don't fucking care for trivial things, I'd rather live comfortably and tend the things I raise. This is my view on life. I'm all for bettering myself, but it doesn't come from trivial material things.

I live pretty simply, and I don't really need more than what I have and I know that, but would I know that with all that money sitting there? Would anyone really be able to not let that power at least taint them a bit? I have a feeling at some level, at some time, things will change. I absolutely despise the lobby industry and its effect on the government.

and now you can migrate to the lovely place that is britain.
This just goes to prove my point that having the Democrats in office will screw us just as much as the Republicans. Republicans have outdated policies and won't spend any money and the Democrats throw it around like they're completely clueless.

This really seems to have been the fed pushing its limits and just doing what it wants. This doesn't seem like the democrats caused this.
All cash should be in a physical form, atleast someone would see huge towers of money go missing and say something
it really shouldn't; that would make banking/investing impossible how would people get loans for example
Well, that seems a bit like paying credit card bills with another credit card. If you were going to pour a huge amount of money into the economy, wouldn't addressing the root causes of poverty, in order to inspire greater economic growth, be a much better use of funds? Every school in the country could be completely retrofitted with contemporary educational technology, with enough left over to completely overhaul the infrastructure of dozens of cities and towns. It seems like that would have much more beneficial long-term effects than simply keeping several major banks afloat.
The day that education and infrastructure trump big banks and corporations on the priority list will probably never happen, as optimistic as I'd like to be. However, I'd love to be alive if that day were to ever come.
Mabye now the general public will realize the problem with our government.
Except it's the republicans that spent all this money.
I might be missing something but I thought no political party had an influence in this spending? [editline]wef[/editline]
The Fed has nothing to do with the democrats or the republicans And that's the problem, why is the entity in charge of your money not wholly government-owned
It was so to prevent bias toward any political party, same reason why board of governors serve 14 year terms
I might be missing something but I thought no political party had an influence in this spending?
Now that I think for a moment you're right. That was dumb.
To anyone: Can I get more articles on this? Preferably major sources I found a bunch from major news sources a few hours ago - but now it seems like they've all been pulled, which makes me question the validity of the article
Was I the only one who thought Ethan was Garrus's voice actor?
Wow, and I wonder how much money was given out when Bush was around
Obama 2012!
Except we couldn't, and that's the problem, the money, for all intensive purposes, doesn't exist. Its made out of nothing.
For all intents and purposes
Anyone know what these banks did with this absurd amount of money?
Anyone know what these banks did with this absurd amount of money?
Bonuses. Many, many bonuses.
Holy fuck why are these people running this country? And why the fuck are people voting for them?

so when does the revolution begin
Eh, the people at the Fed have PhDs in Economics. I trust they know what they're doing more than Congress does, considering they're all pretty much lawyers, and lawyers are scummy.
I think you needa watch that American Dream video posted earlier.
so when does the revolution begin
After we find out who won American Idol
Its cool we'll just borrow some more money from China
