Just wait until Gunfox or some other "AMERIKKA=STRONG" nutjob comes and turns this thread into a debate how Iran military sucks and how America is totally going to take the whole world over with platoon of marines, 2 pikemen, and a potato.
excuse me but america has 100 xt-230s which have a firing range of 1 million miles and can fly into space, equipped with ps3403 missiles that could take on any other military EVER (which is why america is the best) but seriously, why does america need to put these drones all over the middle east in the first place. is it just to make them have value in the wasted billions in the us military?
but seriously, why does america need to put these drones all over the middle east in the first place. is it just to make them have value in the wasted billions in the us military?
Its intel gathering, they are monitoring various places 24/7.
It's almost like they want a war with us.
And yet if Iran sent drones to the U.S., I bet you'd still try to twist it as "wanting war with the U.S. by violating our airspace" as well.
Pfft, those silly Arabs and Persians aren't clever enough to hack high tech American technology! They still ride camels.
We still ride horses.
This is just heading for another cold war.
We still ride horses.
I know. Just look at this fine mustang
It's almost like they want a war with us.
yeah cunts shooting down US spy drones total assholes!
Pfft, those silly Arabs and Persians aren't clever enough to hack high tech American technology! They still ride camels.
I see. While your post is clearly a joke. (I hope) Iran actually "suffers" from too many highly educated people. A TON of people have gone to Universities and graduated with top grades in Iran. So there aren't enough jobs as doctors, engineers and whatnot. I barely go to school here in Sweden compared to those in Iran. You basically have to go to school there and be home-schooled at the same time if you want to get anywhere. Still kind of sucks knowing that the US are planning an imminent "liberation". The current government are a bunch of assholes but I doubt the US have any good intentions.
Wikipedia says that they apparently hijacked it and landed it. "On 4 December, the Iranian military claimed it intercepted a RQ-170 UAV, which tried to penetrate Iran's airspace through the eastern borders. According to the Fars News Agency, Iranian Electronic Warfare Units managed to take control of the UAV and take custody of it with minor damage ." http://www.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=13900913001157 http://news.sky.com/home/article/16123537 If that is true then that raises some questions about how secure these things are. You would expect them to be pretty secure really.
This is extremely unlikely.
Snip. Rate me boxes.
Iran has been the bad guys since the beginning of time, haven't you seen 300? :v:
Sad thing is, it's actually true xD
This is extremely unlikely.
I suspected as much, but why did you have to come and ruin my mental image :( I pictured it playing out like some cheesy action film.
Pfft, those silly Arabs and Persians aren't clever enough to hack high tech American technology! They still ride camels.
Though I hate to sound nationalistic, America truly is one of the pioneering forces of UAS technology. You need very special facilities to operate and program UAS's. Furthermore, UAS's contain on-board programming that takes over in the event of link loss, which will automatically guide the aircraft back to its point of origin. To hack one would require that Iran both had the proper facilities, which is unlikely, given that Iran has little-to-no unmanned tech, and that they were able to reprogram the on-board software. That a drone might be shot down is a reasonable assumption, whereas that Iran managed to hack and capture (a feat that has not yet been accomplished by any other nation) one of the most advanced pieces of military hardware currently in operation requires a much greater suspension of disbelief. The conflicting stories in the various reports further bring those claims into suspicion. In nearly every case, the simpler explanation is the correct one.
This is extremely unlikely.
Computers and wireless connection is pretty cheap these days. And besides, if Poland can afford to have Electronic Warfare Units too, then Iran sure as hell would have one.
I'd say they had Chinese aid if they hadn't already copied this UAV model
That's a further assumption that has zero supporting evidence. Is it possible that a UAV could be hacked? Perhaps, but it's very unlikely given Iran's access to that technology, and would require the aid of impressive outside forces. It is more likely by a huge factor that the drone was simply shot down.
And yet if Iran sent drones to the U.S., I bet you'd still try to twist it as "wanting war with the U.S. by violating our airspace" as well.
Fair enough.
and would require the aid of impressive outside forces.
China
Like your assumptions.
My "assumptions" are based off my first-hand experience as a UAV operator, whereas yours seem to be based off Call of Duty plotlines.
My "assumptions" are based off my first-hand experience as a UAV operator.
How do I know that? Give some actually reliable sources and other proof. For all I care you can be the supreme Commander of tactic00l nuclear weapons orbital laser special ninja unit.
My "assumptions" are based off my first-hand experience as a UAV operator, whereas yours seem to be based off Call of Duty plotlines.
Your assumptions seem to be based on the bandwagon that every country in the middle east are poor and low-tech.
How do I know that? Give some actually reliable sources and other proof. For all I care you can be the supreme Commander of tactic00l nuclear weapons orbital laser special ninja unit.
I can vouch for him.

I don't understand how they managed to not only track it, but shoot it down with little damage and recover it. The hacking scenario isn't new. Already in 2009 insurgents in Iraq managed to tap into US drones with Russian developed software. However, something I could easily accept would be electronic interference. The link between UAS and ground control station is often tenuous, at best, and is highly susceptible to jamming and other forms of interference. That the link could be severed, and the aircraft's on-board navigational system somehow damaged, is one likely way of causing a UAS to crash. Since these machines have on-board parachutes to protect the payload in event of a crash, it's likely that this is one of the ways that Iran could bring it down with minimal damage.
uh dude um
I know :v:
British Dietetic Association?
Big Dumb American, he can be trusted. Trust me :v: [editline]4th December 2011[/editline]
Haha, that's not surprising that they managed to tap into the video feeds. I'd like to imagine that they're better encrypted now, but to be honest, I'm a little bit out-of-date here. I haven't been in the program since early 2010.
Yeah according to some other articles they are now all encrypted. Now, I have no idea about all this, but seeing as RQ-170 is quite new maybe it still needs some tweaking. By the way, how does commanding a UAV even work? Do you sit in USA steering drones in other countries?
Big Dumb American, he can be trusted. Trust me :v:
Right now I trust the potatoes sold at the local grocery store more than his assumptions, sorry.
