12 year olds shouldn't have I phones tbh. Don't know why "kid phones" aren't a thing.
Well, there were these. And they weren't worth killing anybody over. "I'm being punished for something by having my phone taken away. Better kill the person that bought it for me in the first place and was responsible for my existence in the first place." Someone needs a nice hard smack with a reality stick and get their fucking head straight.
What, kids aren't capable of independent thought? Was reading about this 9 year old girl back in the 30s. Living with her grandfather. One day he'd shouted at her, so she waited until he was asleep and hit him in the head with a hammer. Killed him. Completely calm about it, no regret or concern, just said he'd shouted at her. Knew he was dead, knew what that meant, just didn't care. No one knew what to do with her so her older sister took her in. 6 months later killed her sister, exactly the same way, this time over not getting some sweets. Same complete calm, same knowledge of what she'd done and same lack of any remorse. Where the hell did she learn that then? You can't fix sociopaths, and attempting to do so just teaches them how to better hide what they are.
IIRC in the 1930s mental health care wasn't very good.
I didn't get a phone until I was 19 and that's only because it was only then I actually needed one. And even today, I only just carry a regular flip phone. Coworkers and such make fun of me at times for not having a smartphone and carrying around "a dinosaur" but really, all I need is phone calls and texts. If I want to go on the internet, I'll go to my laptop. Aiming to raise my kids the same way.

You don't know what this family's routine was. You're not this girl. Your parents weren't her parents. What happened to you (and to every other poster ranting about their own childhood) has literally nothing to do with what happened to her.
I've never truly needed a phone. I have an IPod, most places I go have Wifi, and if I need to call someone, I can use someone elses phone, or a landline. The only reason why I would ever upgrade is out of convenience, but I would have to be making loads of money to justify it, since phones and plans are stupid expensive
Holy fuck, I hate it when I have a friend who thinks like this. They're always impossible to reach compared to everyone else.

In some places, I'd say it's a necessity.
man, the amount of people who actually know this kids story and up-bringing is surprising. With a 'normal' and safe up-bringing, there's no reason for a little girl to act this impulsive over her being punished for whatever reason. There's obviously some back story we're unaware of but like always, jumping to conclusions and already stating to "beat the hell out of the kid" or "lock her in a room." Yes because that would definitely help her currently corrupt mental state more so. She needs not just punishment, but help with her condition and punishment.
