You have to start a command with xbox, then after that command it listens for like 10 seconds unless you say xbox stop listening.
So technically, if one was using speakers, you could cause a disconnect of another player by actually saying the command "Xbox off" and having it relayed through the speaker? I figure it'd be more of a kamikaze move because even your xbox would disconnect too, which makes me wonder if it would relay the command before executing it by itself.
Does anyone even like voice commands?
I like it in my car, but I have to push a button for it to start listening to me.

To quote Yahtzee Croshaw "I hope Xbox doesn't nuke the Chinese."
I like it in my car, but I have to push a button for it to start listening to me.
Voice commands in cars are total crap. My dad's had two cars with those features, and neither of them worked correctly. Whenever you tell them something, they'll usually do the exact opposite of what you just said.
I like it in my car, but I have to push a button for it to start listening to me.
Yes but for a video game console it just seems silly. I thought voice control was neat when I was ten but it is more annoying than anything. It's easier and more fail proof to just pick up the fucking controller.
I don't know why they didn't include a filter that filters out the audio that's playing from the voice input. It shouldn't be hard, it would be pretty much the same technology they use for noise cancellation in modern phones.
Where has that been the case in this thread [editline]25th November 2013[/editline]
Voice commands in cars are total crap. Like I can get Ford Sync in my friend's car to work perfectly, but he has a hell of time getting it to work. Its much better than it was 5 years ago though.

S Voice and Google Now work like magic.
Where has that been the case in this thread
I honestly have no idea what you mean.
Hahhaha, I remember when this was announced that people joked that this would happen. When are we gonna hear about people screaming xbox commands near other people's houses.
time to invest in a megaphone
I don't know why they didn't include a filter that filters out the audio that's playing from the voice input. In fact, I kind of expect it to already be doing that, since otherwise the game itself could mess with you if Kinect made a fuzzy guess on speech recognition in Halo 17 or whatever. Wait, it's a Microsoft product. What the fuck am I thinking? That's too sensible. Better wear headphones for online multiplayer if there's voice chat, there's gonna be a lot of this.

I honestly have no idea what you mean.
You suggested that they made a filter that ignored the audio from the console, right? At least, that's what I figure, because "filters out the audio that's playing from the voice input" makes no sense, because a voice input can't play anything. Anyway...this thread is about how commercials on TV that say "xbox on" are turning on people's console. The best way to fix this is to make it recognize your voice.
When we're not looking, Microsoft will broadcast an "xbox on" signal across all TV stations. Then, the xboxes will take over the world.
One of the more odd scenarios that could play out, because of this ‘feature’, is if marketers catch wind of this, they could create clips that could control your console by using the voice controls to search bing and open their specific webpage.
And they already have the scripts written. I can guarantee it. Anything that might annoy users into buying something is something an ad company will try at least once.
Of course, it would be quite sleazy for marketers to do this...
They are about as sleazy as you can get and not be breaking the laws. This would actually be rather benign for them, given they stay alive by promoting frivolous lawsuits, drug overusage/overprescription and foisting cheaply made chinese bullshit on us all for the 'low price of just 19.99!"...

My TV automatically changes the input when you turn something on, that would get annoying as fuck really quick :v:
I like it in my car, but I have to push a button for it to start listening to me.
Atleast that makes sense. Constantly listening is both a privacy violation in the making, and the cause of shit like this.
All it means is that the commercial would need xbox off *pause* yes. Sony needs to make this happen.
"Xbox. Go to Playstation dot com." I can see that happening.

That makes sense. Though the obvious solution is to connect your DVR or whatever to your Xbox so that the audio goes through it.
Its 2013 and voice commands is still mostly guessing and making a lot of mistakes.
Actually Google Now is phenomenally reliable. I use it to send texts and make calls and do all sorts of things when I'm busy without any problems.
Would be better if there was a dedicated voice button on the controller.
Would be better if there was a dedicated voice button on the controller.
that kind of defeats the purpose of the kinect, doesn't it?
that kind of defeats the purpose of the kinect, doesn't it?
Last time i checked the kinect was made for its 3D video stuff then its microphone. And saying a trigger word to activate the voice control has been done before.
Last time i checked the kinect was made for its 3D video stuff then its microphone. I have this annoying neighbors kid next door who always has his window up, he just got an Xbox One. I enjoy yelling through my window "XBOX OFF" when i can hear him on full volume playing COD. He gets soooo pissed when i do this.
too bad most of the people posting this on /v/, gaf, here, and reddit think it's irrefutable evidence that the xbox one sucks, not a joke
taking /v/ seriously good job, you're a prime example of their target audience
