I wonder how the read/write lifespan compares to normal SSD's.
I wonder how the read/write lifespan compares to normal SSD's.
I think THAT's the critical point. It has to be much lower OR we are getting ripped off with SSDs
I currently use a 32 gig thumb drive that has a personal (and frequently used) copy of Linux as well as an NTFS-formatted partition for school work and other files, and I still have plenty of space left over. I look at things like this and I just don't think I would ever need it or want it. I also imagine that if you have a TB of space and you're actually using it, there's a big chance that you're putting stuff that doesn't belong on a thumb drive (aka personal or confidential data) on an easily lost storage device. This is not to say I'm not for this thumb drive - I love it - I just couldn't imagine using it is all, haha.
Didnt realise but the one ive got stuck in my pc is only 128mb, maybe its time to get a new one
You could hide it somewhere as a backup if you happened to be the most paranoid person in existance.
bahh I much prefer my punch-tape
this is why im looking forward to CES
I still have a 512 MB one
I have a 128MB one that's been used frequently for school documents ever since I got it. Still works. My dad has a 32MB one laying in a drawer.
I still have a 512 MB one
still have a 128mb one, it's see-through and i've had it for 8 years. still use it. :)
Probally will be expensive as all fuck, I rather just use my external usb 3.0 drive. [editline]7th January 2013[/editline]
still have a 128mb one, it's see-through and i've had it for 8 years. still use it. :)
I have a 32mb drive, do I win?
I think THAT's the critical point. It has to be much lower OR we are getting ripped off with SSDs
You can't compare this to a haddrive/SSD This thing isn't going to be even close to the full write/read speed of a standard hard drive let alone an SSD. You won't be able to use this as a decent hard drive unless you want things to be really slow, partially because of the USB interface adding latency and also because the flash controller on a flash drive is much much simpler than that of SSD's (the reason why they are so fast is partially due to them being connected via SATA and partially them having robust flash controllers onboard to make the read/write speed very quick).
I'd be so afraid to lose that. I've lost a few 2GB-8GB already
512 gb one is priced at 1750 usd http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/kingston-1tb-flash-drive/
i've got a 1tb harddrive and I've yet to fill it up and i don't delete or optimize my files in anyway, this is crazy ugjana

Still got floppy disks laying around here.
floppy floppy disks or 3.5" ?
I have a 1.44mb floppy disk step the fuck off
I've got a 64GB drive. I've yet to fill it.
man, how dense can you get data, anyway? it's such an abstract concept - where are the ones and zeros hiding? if you dropped it especially hard, would all your documents seep out in the form of a green syrup? am I suffering a stroke?? i love the computer age. grats, kingston
I've got a 256k flash drive with transparent green plastic from 2000. Do I win? [editline]ohohoh[/editline] turns out it's 128kb
Is it just me or are kingston hardware names really retarded? "HYPER X PREDATOR" "HYPER X BEAST"
Well things like this do deserve a name like that. Its not like its an ordinary 2GB slow-ass flash drive.
They will find a way to make this publically available. I'll be able to take Glados wherever I go.
I cannot even fill my harddrive over 300 gb.
I've got 300gb left of a total of 3.5tb across 3 harddrives, im getting 3tb more soon and ill prob fill it up in a year.
Now I've got space enough for my /home partition on a RPi.
This will eventually mean larger capacity microSD cards, it's at like 64GB right.
I bought a 16gb one for college and I haven't lost it [SUP][SUP]yet[/SUP][/SUP]
I still have a 32mb one
And to think, in 2005 the first 500gb HDD was shipped, and first 1TB in 2007, and in 1980 the first 1GB Now we can fit 1Tb into this tiny ass thing
my portable 500 GB HDD feels so immensly huge now
