Who's Glen Reedman?
scary shit, especially since the most interesting things which are our news are usually supermarket prices.
Who's Glen Reedman?
An absolute cunt. I'm looking at #mosman on twitter, and that douche just keeps popping up with his absolute bullshit.
Was that the one from the pizza guy thing a few years back?
Didn't that one explode?
found out about this about an hour after it all started happening, my heart fucking sank when i read that she was only 18 three weeks ago.
What's with all the bombs and crap all of a sudden all around the world?
What's with all the bombs and crap all of a sudden all around the world?
1 bombing and 1 potential bombing =/= "all around the world"
What's with all the bombs and crap all of a sudden all around the world?
Yeah, they even got one on jock's helicopter
An absolute cunt. I'm looking at #mosman on twitter, and that douche just keeps popping up with his absolute bullshit.
he's a troll, really not hard to see that. He's just trying to get a reaction of out people who genuinely want this girl to survive

Not making fun. Just saying. I hope that real bomb man will be ok.

What? That's both a blindly obvious observation and how is it making fun?
I was amazed at how slowly media started covering this story... Considering it first broke a couple of hours ago and that people go crazy for live stories which they can track development of, it's literally only really appeared on BBC/CNN etc in the last half hour or so.
You wouldn't expect something like this to happen here in Sydney.

Well, The media was first reporting that the girl was threatening to let it off.
Well, The media was first reporting that the girl was threatening to let it off.
What, why would she do that?
[editline]3rd August 2011[/editline]
Stupid question, but why can't they just remove the explosive part.
I highly doubt it will detonate without any power.
As reported in the other thread, she's been freed.
I'm interested in the fact that she's been reported as being 'calm' repeatedly in almost all articles about this; some commenter raised the idea that she was involved willingly in an extortion plot against her parents. I doubt that, but I do wonder how anyone could possibly remain 'calm' in this type of situation unless they were trained (which she was not), or knew something else - much less a just-18 year old girl still in high school. I know people react differently to extreme stress, but even so.
Alternatively, the police might have just been saying that, I guess.

She had that damn thing on her for like 7 hours or something. I dunno about you but when I've been put in high pressure/dangerous/whatever situations (obviously not to that extent, but still) after the initial freakout I calm down because, in the end, things are out of your control. Screaming for 7 hours straight isn't gonna fix that or make it any easier for the people around you to fix it.
There sure are some SAW vibes in this story.

Absolutely, but people aren't logical. They're still going to freak out, generally speaking, if you say, "O hai, don't move; you have a bomb attached to you."
Also, it's incredibly hard for most people to stand/sit quite still for a few hours; adding an incredibly stressful situation on top of that would make it harder for most, I'd imagine.
I definitely take your point, though; I'm just speculating.
After 8 hours, it sort of becomes routine, no matter the situation, you'll adjust to it after that long
As I've never been in such a high risk situation for eight hours, I'm not able to comment on what I personally might or might not do, and certainly not anyone else.
If you've been in such a situation, tell us.
[editline]4th August 2011[/editline]
alternatively they might have given her a handful of anxiolytics
After 8 hours, it sort of becomes routine, no matter the situation, you'll adjust to it after that long
I disagree. I was in the air force, and had to, during a particularly long ceremony, hold a relatively heavy object and stand still for about that time. It became more torturous the longer I stood there.
But I don't think that's at all comparable to this situation, for obvious reasons.
Eventually someone will cool down a bit, enough to sit still and be able to communicate. And there is a likely chance they gave her something to calm her down, because you're heart wouldn't enjoy pumping like mad for 8 hours straight.
or she was full of shit
anyway, relatively wealthy area, check it out here

This made me think of fallout 3 the first time I heard it on the news.
i was thinking more like new vegas where you get that explosive collar on you
She is now safe.

for the people talking about the other collar
Headline wasn't sensationalist enough for the story.
