THERE WAS SOMEBODY ELSE ON THE SCENE, YOU ARE NOT LEGALLY OBLIGATED TO HELP AT A FUCKING CRASH.
A fucking school teacher got into a fatal car accident and in the story it said the caller said "Am I obligated to go to the car and try to help him?" the 911 operator said no, and the person just waited at the scene for the police. Does that make that person a horrible monster you people are making me out to be? For fucks sake I watched somebody die last night, as if that wasn't traumatizing enough, you people expect me to have the same instinct/training as an EMS crew and just run right up to a bloody ass scene and be able to save the guy.
You still could have done something. Even if it was just as small as waiting. Maybe he was still alive but struggling to get out. You never know when something like this happens.

There's nothing you could've done, ignore them. Those voices are those of extremely sheltered people and I don't think they know how mean it is to say things like that, especially knowing that no amount of good-saintness could've helped. The driver completely brought this upon himself.
Considering that he was speeding and SLAMMED into a tree chances are he broke bones in either his spine or neck or other very sensitive areas. They teach you not to move anyone AT ALL until the medics have arrived and can do their job if someone has broken vital bone structure.
This is not to be interpreted as there is literally nothing that can be done, goodbye
Jesus stop guilt tripping this guy, as if any of you would've known what to do in this situation.

As if I don't feel bad enough already, everybody has to make it seem like I personally killed the guy......
I don't see why we're debating proper driving on a forum where statistically less than half are even old enough

Bro, they are just ignorant assholes that like to think they would be willing to play hero in their own minds.
The irony is funny. You're pissed off your head and driving safely while this other driver is completely sober and gets messed up whilst speeding.

Nothing is funny about it, the guy DIED not just got messed up.

I don't see why we're debating marijuana use on a forum where statistically zero are old enough.
oh wait

I've witnessed an accident on a highway once. Similar case, where I was very close to being involved in the accident. I stopped and stayed and helped the best I could. I keep emergency supplies in the back of my car just in case. I saw some stuff I didn't want to see, but at least I helped some people the best I could while we waited for help to arrive.
OP was being a coward because he didn't want to get caught doing dumb shit. He could have at least waited out of respect.

We don't know if the guy was sober, it will depend if a toxicology report will be done.

You're legally obliged to not drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, so why does it only matter what the law requires when it suits you?
This is not to be interpreted as there is literally nothing that can be done, goodbye
So are you going to be the guy who ends up trying to help and manages to move that broken rib into the right place as to where it punctures his lung? No? Alrighty then.
I don't see why we're debating marijuana use on a forum where statistically zero are old enough.

You point is retarded, driving is legal while being high isn't.
Am I the only one pissed that the OP just left the scene and potentially left someone to die just because he didn't want to get caught? Like I'm going to sound like a huge ass here, but you left a wrecked car on the side of the road just because you didn't want to get caught doing something you damn well know you shouldn't be doing. After reading through the article, there's no indication that he was killed on impact either. God I sound like a huge cunt, but god damn, I think what you did was horrible.
A crash like that would've mangled the driver in a way that if the OP had tried to rescue him (provided he was alive) it would've endangered the driver more than just calling 911.
Driving while under the influence of anything is a stupid move OP
That easily could have been you
This debate has occurred so many times it's getting irritating. Some people can smoke weed and drive just fine, some people can smoke weed but can't drive. Marijuana is not like alcohol where when impaired it doesn't matter how good of a driver you are or how often you drink. The impairing effects of marijuana vary from person to person and there's many factors like how long and how often they smoke it that also effect their ability to drive. I'm an excellent driver and after building up a massive tolerance to bud I was able to drive as if I were completely sober. After a while weed doesn't really get you fucked up, it's more of a lingering effect of feeling good I guess. This doesn't mean that people who smoke all the time can drive, it just depends on the person and their driving capabilities.
The amount of battle hardened keyboard medics is baffling.

Put yourself completely in his shoes, though. You're actively committing a felony, are you going to hang around while the police come pouring in?
You point is retarded, driving is legal while being high isn't.
Both points are retarded that's why mine was sarcastic. Driving is fine, smoking is fine, driving while smoking is debatable, but there's no reason we shouldn't debate either.
I drove while high once. Pretty much the same as driving normally. Don't intend on doing it again, though, I'd rather not operate any machinery while I'm in any sort of impaired state. Besides, it's more fun walking when you're high.

I'm not dumb enough to involve myself in any of that shit. He's shoes wouldn't ever fit me.

It shouldn't be happening regardless.
The OP was a witness to a fatal accident - and by the sounds of it, hasn't even bothered to volunteer what they witnessed to the police. Pretty pathetic of them.
So are you going to be the guy who ends up trying to help and manages to move that broken rib into the right place as to where it punctures his lung? No? Alrighty then.
Okay, guy slams into a tree.
Can you absolutely without question determine without chance of error that there is literally and absolutely NOTHING you can do, based on that information?
Sure I'd know better than to try to move him.

Ah, so you ride off on your moral high horse. Have a nice day then

If they need me they will call me, when you leave an anonymous report they have to take your name and number in case of things like this. You're not from US so I don't expect you to know this. I will be more than willing to answer any questions the police have.

Although driving high isn't the best idea, I don't think its that bad, but it definitely depends on the person, i'd say i'm a pretty good high driver, but some of my friends are fucking awful at high driving.

And, what happens if the police have further inquiries regarding the matter?
What happens if the matter is heard before a coroner?
After all, it sounds like the only person who actually witnessed the accident, and can give accurate information regarding the lead up to the accident is the OP.
Even though they did not stop at the accident (and I think they probably should have), there is no reason now why the OP cannot go to a police station and answer any questions they might have. In the scheme of things, it's not like they'll give a crap about the OP being under the influence when they're having to deal with result of a fatal car accident.

How is it an anonymous report if they have your name and number? Sounds the exact opposite of anonymous to me.
