Fatal Car Accident Caused By Deer (happened right in front of me omw to a party)
Apparently everybody on this forum carries Jaw of Life with them in their car. A quick glance at the car tells anybody you'd need the Jaws to get the guy out. Even if I did wait there, I couldn't have done anything until professionals got there.
You may have been able to comfort him, maybe he was still alive and needed help keeping consciousness. The front looks trashed but it's meant to because it's probably a crumple zone. You could've stopped and helped and potentially saved his life but instead you drove away for selfish reasons and left him to die in a dark lonely field. You'll regret it one day I'm sure, and the least you can do now is apologise to his family.
I don't think anyone was expecting him/you (OP) to save his life. What we are/were at least expecting was for the OP to stop and see if you can help. I don't think anyone is expecting you to pull the jaws of life out of your trunk and pry the roof off, then use your emergency first-aid kit to sew his wounds closed. What at least I was expecting, was for you to simply stop and see if you can help.
The most basic thing about a car crash when it comes to helping them is: Don't move anyone unless they are in danger where they currently are. What that usually means is, if you see flames, or a strong chance of flames, you get them out. It's not the most complex thing in the world. Usually, their first instinct is to take the person out of the car, no matter the situation, which you shouldn't do. That's basically the most important "rule" of an accident, and the only "rule" anyone should be expected to follow, and that should really be all that's expected.

Man, go fuck yourself you fucking cunt.

That title.
Pretty sure the neighbor could have handled the checking up on the guy
Doesn't take two to identify a stiff
Because people started calling him out for being a fuckwit.
Explain the connection between this sentence and the quoted text. How could he lie to cover his tracks when his "cover" was in the original text of the OP? You realize this makes no sense through your desperation to climb that horse, right?
"They didn't ask for it, therefore I didn't need to help by providing my info"
"I'm not obliged to help at an accident, therefore I didn't need to get myself arrested"
You realize these are the same arguments, yes? Why is this logic valid for you but not him?
Because someone should feel that they have some social responsibility to at least check to see if someone is alive or not.
We're not talking about trying to get them out of the car, or even save their life, but they didn't even check. The least they could've done is comfort them in their final moments, if they were still alive.
Because it does sound like it's bullshit. If you left your name and number, it's not an anonymous report.
From your own county's website:

Except I don't live in Illinois, you are a shitty internet detective.
I mean obviously everyone that keeps trying to flame the OP wants to see a mangled, bloodied and possibly dead person right? That sure is what it sounds like to me, which to me at least would be a completely traumatizing thing so much more so than just witnessing the crash itself.

"Hi internet nerds told me to apologize for not saying hi to your husband's corpse"
are you guys even looking at this wreck there isn't a window left to even look at the dude

I don't see anything in the OP regarding the police having a name and phone number if they had any more questions.
Because people started calling him out for being a fuckwit.
People have had worser looking accidents and come out uninjured. But it sounds like the OP didn't even bother to check to see if they were alive or injured.
If someone is already on the scene then they've got it covered, it only takes one person to call the emergency services.
Why bother even debating this before the autopsy report comes out? Maybe the driver died instantly, maybe he didn't, we can't know until an autopsy has been done.

Yeah I like how everybody makes it seem like I left the guy to die. There was already someone there, I pulled over to call 911, and saw the neighbor coming. I really don't understand the difference having 2 people there instead of one would've done.

You need to learn how to fucking read THERE WAS ALREADY A GUY THERE

Nice assumption. But we will not know, because OP didn't check.
Man, go fuck yourself you fucking cunt.
Yeah fuck that guy for having consideration for victims of a car crash.
Okay nevermind apparently it's dumb to be concerned enough to check on victims of a car crash.
Also, people who are saying "Look at the wreck", that is not how you judge whether or not you stop. Look at this wreck, which a man survived with few injuries:

Even in the video they say "The truck driver pulled some cables away which may have prevented a fire". Even the tiniest thing can help. Nobody can think of every possibility that could happen in a given situation, but two people can think of more things than one person can alone, and three more than two.

You said you witnessed it.
And the article you posted said:
"It was 12:25 a.m. and I heard a loud noise, like a trailer going over a bump. I went outside to see what happened but it was too dark. At that time, someone was driving by and saw the car off the road."
So, in the timeline of events, you were there before them.
So how could he have already been there, if you saw it? After all, you were outside, he was inside his house.
You just drove off, and made your "anonymous" report.
Nothing is funny about it, the guy DIED not just got messed up.
The irony spikes.

You're saying OP should feel bad for not checking, and I'm saying you should feel bad for doing that to a guy who just witnessed a fatal accident and even did his duties by alerting authority. Next time you're on the scene of something like this, feel free to prove your impeccable morality by checking out the corpse, but it's not going to save someone who was going fast enough to take out 30ft trees. Until then there's not much for us to do here but bask in bad feels.
hahahah I can't believe someone gave you that title, OP
was the person who gave it you making a stupid joke, or are they just mentally handicapped?

meant the guy walked up to the car first, he even said he saw the guy walk up in the very post you quoted, please don't become a detective

I pulled over to call 911, saw a guy come out of his house, realized I didn't need to be there for a few reasons. I left, what is so hard to fucking understand?

I dunno but I feel very happy that somebody would spend $5 on me.

Why did you pull over if you weren't going to stop and check on them?
Did you just want to stare at the crash or something?
I also did not expect this to become the #2 most popular thread on FP, the most I expected was 'get a blog' posts.

Hmmm I dunno maybe because I just watched a fucking horrible accident and driving while using your phone isn't a good idea. Especially while already high, you don't think things though, do you?

Not everyone is into checking out dead bodies, especially if you're not sure if they're quite dead yet.
[editline]23rd June 2013[/editline]
Don't let that stop you from trying to sound like a future hero though
itt trying to make a guy feel bad for doing something that most people would have done in that situation.
quit with your idiotic emotional appeals and drop the fucking subject instead of making the OP personally responsible for something that he neither caused nor was responsible for helping out with, beyond what he'd done at the scene of the accident.

what are you even trying to prove?
have you made it your personal fucking job to make a traumatized person feel more depressed about their situation?
Ladies and gentlemen, let this be a lesson. Never under any circumstances make a news headline on this forum to the effect of "Something happened in MY town!" or "Something happened in front of ME!"
Keep your personal emotions out of it.
